34m agoHoward (foot) was fully cleared for football activities earlier this month, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports.
This news, which was relayed by Howard's doctor in a letter, should help pave the way for the free agent cornerback, who dealt with a foot issue late last season, to catch on with another team. Prior to missing Miami's last two contests (Week 18 and the team's wild-card loss to Kansas City), Howard -- a four-time Pro Bowler -- had recorded 45 tackles and an interception in 13 games.

Amon-Ra St. Brown DET WRLions' Amon-Ra St. Brown: Signing massive extension
1h agoSt. Brown and the Lions reached agreement Tuesday on a four-year extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The initial report has it as a $120 million deal, including $77 million guaranteed. If those numbers hold up when more details come out, St. Brown will tie Tyreek Hill's WR record for average annual value ($30 million) and have the stand-alone record for money guaranteed. Of course, he probably won't hold those records for long, as the list of star WRs nearing the end of their rookie contracts includes Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb and Ja'Marr Chase. In any case, St. Brown has improved his receiving volume and fantasy production with each passing season in the NFL, and he should have another big year in 2024 while catching passes from QB Jared Goff in an offense that will be coordinated by Ben Johnson for at least one more season.

3h agoThe Steelers aren't expected to pick up the fifth-year option on Fields' rookie contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
It perhaps goes without saying, given that Fields is coming in as the second QB on the depth chart and would be guaranteed around $25.66 million in 2025 if the Steelers were to pick up his option before the May 2 deadline. While the team may have interest in keeping him around beyond the upcoming season, it won't be at that price before he's ever put on a Steelers uniform. Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports that fellow offseason acquisition Russell Wilson will enter offseason workouts in "pole position" at quarterback, with Fields then getting a chance to compete at some point in the future, according to coach Mike Tomlin. Fields is on track to be a free agent next spring, and his playing time between now and then seems largely dependent on Wilson struggling.

Corbett closed out the 2023 campaign on IR after suffering a knee injury in a Week 11 loss to the Cowboys. His ability to take part in drills Tuesday suggests the Nevada product's knee is well healed as Carolina begins preparation for the upcoming season.

21h agoBarno (knee) is not participating in voluntary workouts Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Barno finished out the 2023 campaign on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury Week 16 against the Packers. Although it's not clear what specifically the injury was or how much longer it may affect him, it appears to still be a big enough issue that the Virginia Tech product is not taking part in drills. Luckily, for the Barno and the Panthers, training camp is still about three months away.

21h agoRodgers was reinstated by the NFL on Tuesday after he was suspended for the 2023 season for violating the NFL's gambling policy, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Rodgers was originally suspended in June of 2023 after making bets on NFL games, which led to him being waived by the Colts. Despite the suspension, the UMass product inked a new deal with the Eagles two months later. With his suspension lifted, Rodgers will now be able to participate in all team activities for the first time since he signed with Philadelphia.

As per usual, the lefty-hitting Wade finds himself on the bench while the Giants face off against a left-handed starting pitcher (Sean Manaea) in the series finale. Wilmer Flores will replace Wade at first base and as the Giants' No. 2 batter.

Austin Slater steps into Lee's usual spot atop the batting order, while the Giants will roll out an outfield featuring Michael Conforto, Tyler Fitzgerald and Slater from left to right.

5m agoYastrzemski went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Mets.
Yastrzemski delivered a two-run single in the fifth inning and plated another run with a single in the seventh. The outfielder has gone 6-for-15 (.400) with seven RBI over his last five games. He's slashing just .208/.296/.271 with one home run, nine RBI and six runs scored over 55 plate appearances while filling a strong-side platoon role this season. Austin Slater often replaces Yastrzemski in right field versus southpaws.

It will be a bullpen game for the Giants after Blake Snell (adductor) had to be scratched. New acquisition Mitch White would seem to be a candidate to eat some innings as a bulk reliever Wednesday.

8m agoRutschman went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Angels.
Rutschman is on a tear during his five-game hitting streak, going 11-for-24 (.458) with seven RBI in that span. All three of his hits Tuesday were singles, and he has just two extra-base hits during the active streak. Rutschman continues to cement his status as one of the top catchers in baseball with a .323/.366/.419 slash line with two home runs, 14 RBI and 15 runs scored over 101 plate appearances this season.

9m agoThe Giants recalled Roupp from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.
Roupp was optioned to Triple-A on Tuesday, but he'll be back with the Giants one day later after Blake Snell (adductor) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Snell had been slated to start Wednesday's game against the Mets, and though Ryan Walker is now set to serve as the Giants' opening pitcher, Roupp is likely to be part of the Giants' pitching plan either as a multi-inning reliever. Each of his eight appearances with the Giants this season have come out of the bullpen, with Roupp posting a 4.35 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 7:4 K:BB across 10.1 innings.

21m agoWade (knee) didn't practice Wednesday and will be unavailable for Thursday's Game 3 against the Magic, Evan Dammarell of FearTheSword.com reports.
Wade hasn't suited up since March 8 due to a right knee sprain, and it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return. However, the team has been evaluating him on a game-by-game basis, and his next chance to suit up will be in Saturday's Game 4.

Coach Jamahl Mosley said that Suggs is feeling better, and previous reports have indicated that the guard is expected to play in Game 3 Thursday against the Cavaliers. Fantasy managers can expect more clarity when Orlando releases their official injury report Wednesday evening.

36m agoNets general manager Sean Marks said Wednesday that "all signs point to" Simmons (back) being available to start next season's training camp, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports.
Simmons underwent a successful microscopic partial discectomy in mid-March to alleviate the nerve impingement in his lower back, marking yet another injury-related setback for the 2017 No. 1 overall pick. The 27-year-old has played in only 57 games across the last three seasons, but when available, he has shown he can still be an active defender and excellent playmaker. Simmons has one more year remaining on his current contract, a five-year extension he signed with Philadelphia in 2019.

44m agoCoach Nick Nurse said Melton (back) practiced Wednesday and is on track to suit up for Thursday's Game 3 against the Knicks, but the shooting guard will likely still be listed as questionable on the official injury report, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports.
Melton has appeared in only five games since Jan. 12 and last suited up April 12, so even if he gets the green light, he'll presumably be eased into action. The sixth-year wing made only 38 regular-season appearances and averaged 11.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.6 steals in 26.9 minutes per game.

2h agoLively contributed seven points (2-5 FG, 3-6 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and one steal in 21 minutes during Tuesday's 96-93 win over the Clippers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
Daniel Gafford started this game, but he was ineffective in just nine minutes of action and left the game briefly due to a back injury. Lively had more success, obviously, but he didn't get a ton of burn either, as Maxi Kleber and P.J. Washington soaked up the bulk of the frontcourt minutes. The logjam at center is far from ideal for fantasy purposes for both Gafford and Lively.

Anderson carried a questionable tag into Game 2 after picking up a hip injury in Game 1, but despite being cleared to play, Anderson never left the bench. Instead, Minnesota rolled with an eight-man rotation with Nickeil Alexander-Walker playing 31 minutes off the bench, while Anthony Edwards (38) and Jaden McDaniels (41) also played heavy minutes on the wing.

10m agoLomberg (illness) might return for Game 3 against Tampa Bay on Thursday, coach Paul Maurice told Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site on Wednesday.
Lomberg didn't play in Florida's 3-2 overtime victory over the Lightning on Tuesday because of the illness. The 29-year-old had five goals, seven points, 80 PIM and 179 hits in 75 regular-season appearances. Lomberg will likely serve on the fourth line once he's healthy enough to return to the lineup.

Jake Oettinger DAL GStars' Jake Oettinger: Set to start vs. Golden Knights
39m agoOettinger is slated to start at home against the Golden Knights in Game 2 on Wednesday, per Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine.
Oettinger will attempt to rebound after allowing four goals on just 15 shots in a 4-3 loss to Vegas on Monday. He was inconsistent in the regular season, finishing with a 35-14-4 record, 2.72 GAA and .905 save percentage in 54 contests. Oettinger also had a tough time versus the Golden Knights during the 2023 playoffs, stopping 143 of 163 shots (.877 save percentage) over the course of that six-game series.

43m agoBennett (upper body) is expected to be sidelined for at least a week, the team announced Wednesday.
Bennett scored a goal and picked up an assist in Game 2 before being forced to leave the game due to his upper-body issue. According to coach Paul Maurice, the news on the 27-year-old winger is better than anticipated. Based on his timeline, Bennett should be expected to miss at least the team's next three games, though it could be longer. In his stead, Anton Lundell and Evan Rodrigues could both be candidates to move into a top-six role.

Jani Hakanpaa DAL DStars' Jani Hakanpaa: Out Wednesday
45m agoHakanpaa (lower body) is expected to miss Game 2 on Wednesday, according to Brian Rea of Bally Sports Southwest.
Hakanpaa hasn't been able to play since March 16 due to the injury. He had two goals, 12 points, 33 PIM, 196 hits and 123 blocks in 64 appearances during the regular season. When Hakanpaa is healthy, he might replace Nils Lundkvist in the lineup.

1h agoSwayman was the first goalie off the ice Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports, indicating he'll tend the twine on the road for Game 3 against the Maple Leafs.
Swayman was fantastic in Game 1, stopping 35 of 36 shots in a victory over Toronto. Despite his strong performance, the Bruins stuck to their goalie rotation, going with Linus Ullmark for Game 2. If the 25-year-old Swayman puts together another winning effort, he could force coach Jim Montgomery to reconsider his rotational approach.

Ilya Sorokin NYI GIslanders' Ilya Sorokin: Expected starter for Thursday
1h agoSorokin is set to start at home against Carolina on Thursday, per Andrew Gross of Newsday.
Sorokin had a 25-19-12 record, 3.01 GAA and .908 save percentage in 56 regular-season appearances this season. Semyon Varlamov was in net for the first two contests of the Islanders' playoff series and initially appeared to be the projected starter for Game 3 after being the first goaltender off the ice following Wednesday's morning skate, but coach Patrick Roy indicated that New York will make a change in goal. Carolina has a 2-0 series lead and has outscored the Islanders 8-4.
