3h agoHarris' trainer said Friday the running back has dropped to around 235 pounds this offseason after playing at 242 during the 2023 season, and that he's increasingly motivated after the Steelers declined his fifth-year option, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
Harris is heading into the final season of his rookie deal with Pittsburgh, so there's no doubt about his motivation to log a productive year and earn sizeable payday for 2025. Playing at a lower weight could help Harris' efficiency metrics, and there's also some reason to be optimistic that he now finds himself in a better scenario than 2023, when he set new career-high marks with eight rushing touchdowns and 4.1 YPC. Rookie first-round pick Troy Fautanu should represent an upgrade to the O-line, and while there are question marks surrounding Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, both have the potential to command a more effective offense than Kenny Pickett did. Harris is capable of handling 20-plus touches but also dependent on volume to produce, making the emergence of Jaylen Warren the biggest threat to his fantasy prospects.

3h agoTagovailoa has reportedly missed most of Miami's team activities this offseason while negotiations on a potential contract extension continue, Alain Poupart of SI.com reports.
Coach Mike McDaniel and GM Chris Grier have both vocally supported the idea of Tagovailoa remaining with the Dolphins long-term, and an extension being penned this offseason, but it sounds like until that's official, the team may not have the quarterback's full participation. That said, Tagovailoa was confirmedly a participant in part of Miami's offseason workouts back in April, with Poupart noting that the team released videos of him throwing on multiple different days. There are no signs that Tagovailoa would consider skipping June's mandatory minicamp, and he himself has downplayed concerns about contract negotiations. As things currently stand, Tagovailoa is set to play out the 2024 season under the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.

14h agoGreenlaw (Achilles) no longer requires a walking boot, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Greenlaw made a public appearance at an event in San Jose and discussed his recovery from Achilles surgery. He has previously said he hopes to be ready for Week 1, and his ability to walk without a boot is a small step in that direction. Greenlaw's level of participation at the start of training camp will be more telling regarding his availability come the regular season.

Flowers suited up for all 17 games with the Falcons in 2023. Now he's signing with his fourth team in as many years. The Jaguars are thin at cornerback behind Tyson Campbell and Ronald Darby, so Flowers could push for a significant role in 2024.

With Jordan Poyer having been poached by Miami and Micah Hyde eyeing retirement, Buffalo is understandably scrambling to restock at safety ahead of next season. Delaney recorded 25 tackles (17 solo) and two interceptions with Tampa Bay last year.

Diesch signed with the Browns on Tuesday, but he's already done with the team after failing a physical. He'll now have to look for another opportunity to make an impression with a different team.

Julian Merryweather CHC RPCubs' Julian Merryweather: Nearing throwing program
31m agoCubs manager Craig Counsell said Friday that Merryweather (ribs/back) could start a throwing program Monday, Mike McGraw of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.
The right-hander has been shut down since he suffered a rib stress fracture in his back in early April but is now ready to start up a throwing program. Merryweather will be eligible to return from the 60-day IL in early June but will likely require a bit more time before being ready to be reinstated.

The brief but impressive stretch is in stark contrast to the first eight games following Noda's demotion, when he posted an .083 average across 37 plate appearances. The 28-year-old, who limped to a .128 average and .440 OPS during his 30 games in the majors to open the season, could soon earn himself a call back to the big-league club if he can keep his hot bat going for an extended period.

Lawrence Butler OAK RFAthletics' Lawrence Butler: Makes splash in minors return
1h agoButler, optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, made his minor-league debut in Thursday's win over El Paso and went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs.
Butler drew the start in center field in his first minor-league game of 2024 and made an instant impact while working out of the No. 2 spot in the order. Butler had a much different experience against big-league arms (.170/.273/.264), so he'll presumably need to have an extended stretch of success at the Triple-A level to earn a promotion.

Porter Hodge CHC SPCubs' Porter Hodge: Recalled from Triple-A
1h agoThe Cubs recalled Hodge from Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Hodge has posted a 4.80 ERA and walked 12 over 15 innings this season between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa, but he's also struck out 26. This is the first stint in the majors for the 23-year-old, so he'll be making his big-league debut when/if he enters a game.

Miguel Andujar OAK RFAthletics' Miguel Andujar: Knocks in three in rehab debut
1h agoAndujar (knee) opened Triple-A Las Vegas' win over El Paso on Thursday as the designated hitter, going 2-for-3 with a three-run double.
Andujar was lifted for a pinch hitter late in the game, but his timing at the plate appeared to be in fine form despite his extended layoff. The multi-hit effort was reminiscent of the red-hot spring Andujar enjoyed before it was cut short by his knee injury, and the veteran may not need an inordinately long rehab assignment if he continues to wield a hot bat for the Aviators.

Colten Brewer CHC RPCubs' Colten Brewer: Lands on IL with back injury
1h agoThe Cubs placed Brewer on the 15-day injured list Friday with a lower-back injury, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
It's not clear when Brewer's back began bothering him, but his last appearance came on Sunday in Pittsburgh. He's been an effective middle reliever for the Cubs this season, collecting a 3.09 ERA and 12:4 K:BB over 11.2 frames. Porter Hodge will absorb his spot in the bullpen.

13h agoEdwards notched 27 points (8-17 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 7-8 FT), four rebounds, four assists and three steals in 34 minutes during Thursday's 115-70 victory over Denver in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Edwards bounced back from an ugly outing in Game 5 and led Minnesota in scoring in this pivotal matchup, as he looked far more aggressive than during his previous appearance. Edwards deserves credit for his constant off-the-ball movement as well, as his movements on the perimeter, coupled with the return of Mike Conley from a one-game absence, made things very difficult for Denver on defense. This was Edwards' fourth game with at least 25 points in the series, and he's expected to operate as Minnesota's primary offensive weapon in Sunday's do-or-die Game 7 at Ball Arena.

Jaden McDaniels MIN SFTimberwolves' Jaden McDaniels: Excels in Game 6 victory
13h agoMcDaniels notched 21 points (8-10 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal over 30 minutes during Thursday's 115-70 victory over Denver in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
McDaniels is not known for his scoring ability and often gets recognition for his defensive work. Still, he stood out when it mattered the most in this series and finished as Minnesota's second-highest scorer. McDaniels is not expected to hover around the 20-point mark regularly going forward, but this was an excellent showing in a game during which his team needed him to step up. In fact, this was McDaniels' second-best scoring output in the current playoff run, as he scored 25 points in the Game 2 win over the Suns in the first round.

Karl-Anthony Towns MIN PFTimberwolves' Karl-Anthony Towns: Records double-double
13h agoTowns finished Thursday's 115-70 victory over Denver in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals with 10 points (4-10 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 13 rebounds and five assists across 29 minutes.
Towns had a couple of clutch buckets in the early stages of the game, but for the most part, he took a backseat in the scoring column as Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels carried Minnesota offensively in this win. The Timberwolves need Towns to be at his best if they want to have a shot at winning a complicated Game 7 on the road, and for that to happen, he'll need to be even more aggressive on the offensive end of the court, an area in which he hasn't been consistent throughout the series. Towns has reached the 20-point mark in four of the six games he's played in the semis, and the Timberwolves have gone 3-1 in those contests.

Nikola Jokic DEN CNuggets' Nikola Jokic: Can't carry Denver in Game 6
13h agoJokic contributed 22 points (9-19 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds and two assists across 36 minutes during Thursday's 115-70 loss to the Timberwolves in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Jokic delivered one of the best performances of his playoff career in Game 5 of the series, but he was unable to repeat those numbers in this woeful loss despite a respectable stat line. Jokic shot under 50 percent from the field for the third time in the series, and the Nuggets have lost every time that has happened. While the entire Nuggets offense must perform better in a do-or-die Game 7 contest on Sunday, Jokic will be the one who sets the tone early on.

Aaron Gordon DEN PFNuggets' Aaron Gordon: Solid play not enough Thursday
13h agoGordon recorded 12 points (4-7 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks in 28 minutes during Thursday's 115-70 loss to Minnesota in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
The entire Nuggets offense struggled in this game, as shown by the fact the team shot 30.2 percent from the field and 19.4 percent from three-point range in this Game 6 loss. Despite the collective struggles, Gordon found a way to make an impact with his two-way play, and he was also one of just three Denver players who scored in double digits in this loss. Gordon has been arguably the second-best player for Denver in this series, and he'll aim to deliver another strong showing in Game 7 at home on Sunday.

Jamal Murray DEN PGNuggets' Jamal Murray: Shooting woes too much to overcome
13h agoMurray recorded 10 points (4-18 FG, 2-7 3Pt), two rebounds, five assists and one steal over 33 minutes during Thursday's 115-70 loss to Minnesota in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Murray had been the catalyst of the Nuggets offense during this series, but he struggled massively Thursday, though the entire team looked overmatched from start to finish. There's no doubt the offense runs through Nikola Jokic, but it's also not a secret that Denver tends to struggle heavily when Murray is not at his best, and that has been the case in each of the three losses the Nuggets have suffered in this series. Murray will aim to bounce back in Sunday's Game 7, as the Nuggets need him at his best to avoid a monumental upset and keep their hopes of a title defense alive.

Dmitry Orlov CAR DHurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Has bad turnover in loss
1m agoOrlov supplied a secondary assist in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers in Game 6.
Orlov got on the board by helping out on a Martin Necas first-period tally that opened the scoring. It was the fifth time in six games this series that Orlov registered at least one point. The Russian defenseman also had one shot on goal and six blocks with a minus-1 rating in 19:01 of ice time. Unfortunately for the 32-year-old, he had an egregious turnover in which he failed to clear the defensive zone -- it led directly to a New York goal shortly after Carolina garnered a 2-0 lead early in the second period. Orlov finished the postseason with two goals and four assists in 11 contests.

Andrei Svechnikov CAR RWHurricanes' Andrei Svechnikov: Has two helpers in loss
3m agoSvechnikov registered two assists in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers in Game 6.
Svechnikov had a secondary assist on the power play and a primary assist at even strength in Thursday's defeat. The 24-year-old added one shot, one block, four hits and a minus-1 rating in 19:04 of ice time. The Russian forward did have six points in as many games in this series, but he only found the back of the net once. He finished the postseason with 11 points in 11 games. Svechnikov has five years remaining on his current contract heading into the offseason.

Sebastian Aho CAR LWHurricanes' Sebastian Aho: Two points in loss
12m agoAho scored a goal and added an assist in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers in Game 6.
Aho had the primary assist on Seth Jarvis' power-play marker early in the second period. Aho also had an even-strength tally in the middle frame which was the final goal Carolina scored in the contest. In addition to scoring two points, the Finnish center had two shots on net, one block and a minus-2 rating in 18:48 of ice time. After a career high in the regular season with 89 points, the 26-year-old forward finished the postseason with four goals, eight assists and a plus-1 rating in 11 outings.

Frederik Andersen CAR GHurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Tough outing to end season
28m agoAndersen made 19 saves on 23 shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers in Game 6.
Carolina had two separate two goal leads in Thursday's loss, but Andersen and the Hurricanes couldn't keep the door shut. Carolina went up 2-0 early in the second period, but New York answered back less then a minute later after Andersen lost his footing in the crease. New York went on to dominate the third period -- Chris Kreider scored a natural hat trick to complete the comeback for the Rangers. Andersen finished the postseason with a 6-4 record alongside a 2.62 GAA and an .895 save percentage. The 34-year-old veteran has one more year remaining on his current deal before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2025-26.

Igor Shesterkin NYR GRangers' Igor Shesterkin: Helps Rangers advance
31m agoShesterkin turned aside 33 of 36 shots on goal in Thursday's 5-3 win over Carolina in Game 6.
Shesterkin bounced back in a big way after Monday's Game 5 loss, helping the Rangers move on to the next round of the playoffs. Carolina outplayed New York for a large portion of the first 40 minutes, but Shesterkin stood tall between the pipes before the Rangers took over in the final frame. It was the 28-year-old netminder's eighth win of the postseason and 21st overall of his career. He has a record of 8-2 with a 2.40 GAA and a .923 save percentage after two rounds of the postseason. Shesterkin and the Rangers will face either Boston or Florida for a matchup in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Sergei Bobrovsky FLA GPanthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: Starting Friday
1h agoBobrovsky will get the starting nod on the road for Game 6 against the Bruins on Friday, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.
Bobrovsky has been solid in each of the last four games, posting a 1.77 GAA and .910 save percentage while going 3-1. The 35-year-old backstop should be able to rely on his offense to close out the series, which is averaging 3.70 goals per game in the postseason, if he can continue to keep the goals allowed at two or fewer.
