1h agoJefferson (undisclosed) was a participant during the beginning of Detroit's offseason program Tuesday.
Jefferson finished the 2023 campaing on Lions' practice squad injured list after popping up with an undisclosed injury in late January. The nature of the 24-year-old's issue was never revealed, though he appears to have moved past the injury over the past months. Jefferson has not played since his 2021 rookie season, spending each of the past two campaigns on Detroit's practice squad.

James Mitchell DET TELions' James Mitchell: Participates in offseason program
1h agoMitchell (hand) was seen catching passes last week during the beginning of Detroit's offseason program.
Mitchell played 15 games during the 2023 regular season while primarily slotting in as a blocking tight end and contributor on special teams, as he caught just two passes. The 24-year-old then missed the Lions' postseason run with a hand injury. Mitchell's return to action during the offseason program likely means he's moved past the injury or the time being, so he'll likely slot back in behind Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright on the depth chart at tight end to begin the 2024 season.

6h agoMcLeod (biceps) said Tuesday he plans to retire after the 2024 season, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
McLeod is presumably healthy after a biceps injury limited him to 10 appearances (five starts) in 2023. He signed a one-year deal back in March to return to Cleveland for a second season. The soon-to-be 34-year-old will likely serve as a depth option in the secondary while also handling a role on special teams.

Michael Wilson ARI WRCardinals' Michael Wilson: Outlook muddied after recent arrivals
1d agoWilson has more competition for targets from quarterback Kyler Murray after the team selected Marvin Harrison fourth overall in this year's draft and then signed seven-year pro Zay Jones last week, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Wilson spent much of the offseason No. 2, at best, in the pecking order in the Cardinals passing game behind tight end Trey McBride, but the recent additions leave Wilson's potential volume in the upcoming campaign up in the air. As a rookie third-round pick last year, Wilson put together a 38-565-3 line on 58 targets in 13 contests, but he produced just 13 catches (on 25 targets) for 164 yards and one touchdown in five outings with Murray under center. The arrival of the dynamic Harrison likely leaves Wilson fending for looks with Jones, who has three years with at least 500 receiving yards on his resume.

1d agoElliss (shoulder) should be fully recovered from shoulder surgery by training camp, Mike Klis of 9News reports.
Elliss underwent surgery to repair a torn shoulder labrum six months ago, but he still isn't quite 100 percent. However, the Broncos' 2024 third-round selection was able to take part in walkthroughs and individual portions of the team's recent rookie minicamp. The son of former NFL player Luther Elliss, Jonah projects to be a pass-rush specialist after recording 12 sacks in just 10 games at Utah last season.

Jalen Camp CLE WRBrowns' Jalen Camp: Finds new opportunity
1d agoCamp signed a contract with the Browns on Tuesday.
Camp bounced around multiple practice squads last season, including Carolina's, which he was waived from Friday. The Georgia Tech product will now work to make the most of his new opportunity in Cleveland after not being able to find his way onto an active NFL roster in 2023.

3m agoGomber (1-2) earned the win against San Diego on Wednesday, pitching six scoreless innings during which he allowed two hits and walked two batters while striking out five.
The only two hits Gomber allowed were singles that the Padres couldn't cash in. The southpaw completed six innings for the fourth straight game and notched his third consecutive quality start. Wednesday's victory was his first of the campaign, but it was overdue based on how he's been pitching of late. Over his past three outings, Gomber has allowed just one earned run across 18.2 frames despite a mediocre 13:6 K:BB.

22m agoCrow-Armstrong went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 7-1 win over Atlanta. He also stole a base.
Crow-Armstrong continues to show off his speed, as he recorded his first triple and fourth stolen base across 21 games this season. The 22-year-old is in a crowded outfield with the likes of Ian Happ, Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki all healthy and commanding regular playing time. However, Crow-Armstrong has plenty of talent, and his future outlook is bright even if he mostly serves as a reserve in 2024.

Seiya Suzuki CHC RFCubs' Seiya Suzuki: Continues strong play Wednesday
28m agoSuzuki went 2-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and another run scored in Wednesday's 7-1 win over Atlanta.
Suzuki is batting just .217 in five games since returning from an oblique injury, though he has a strong .280 average and .825 OPS on the season. Those numbers are in line with the .285 average and .842 OPS the outfielder posted last year, when he also delivered a career-high 20 home runs. Suzuki only has four long balls so far in 2024, but he's been a consistent hitter at the MLB level and could get the power rolling in short order.

Mike Tauchman CHC RFCubs' Mike Tauchman: Goes deep in Wednesday's win
33m agoTauchman went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-1 win over Atlanta.
Tauchman was effective from the leadoff spot as he delivered his fourth home run of the season and first since April 28. The veteran started in left field in this one with Ian Happ getting the night off, but the Cubs now have a crowded outfield that features Tauchman, Happ, Cody Bellinger, Seiya Suzuki and Pete Crow-Armstrong. This could push Tauchman to the bench on a frequent basis, though the team seems intent on getting him regular playing time, and he's earned it with a strong .821 OPS so far.

Javier Assad CHC SPCubs' Javier Assad: Continues to shine as starter
40m agoAssad (4-0) tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win Wednesday against Atlanta. He allowed four hits and a walk, while striking out seven.
Assad has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in all nine of his starts this season, which has allowed him to compile a stellar 1.49 ERA across 48.1 innings. The young righty was effective as a long reliever last year and it was uncertain in spring training if he'd be able to grab a rotation spot, but at this point, it would seem unlikely that he's moved back to the bullpen given his strong play. Assad will look to keep rolling as a starter in his next scheduled outing, which is penciled in for Tuesday against this same Atlanta squad.

Jaxon Wiggins CHC SPCubs' Jaxon Wiggins: Makes pro debut
2h agoWiggins (elbow) struck out two and allowed one earned run on one hit and one walk over 1.2 innings in his season debut Friday for the Cubs' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate.
The No. 68 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Wiggins didn't pitch last summer while he completed his recovery from Tommy John surgery, a procedure he had earlier in the year. Wiggins was fully cleared ahead of the start of the Arizona Complex League season and tossed 33 pitches Friday in his professional debut. The Cubs will likely be cautious with the 22-year-old right-hander's workload this season coming off a major surgery, but he should report to Single-A Myrtle Beach or High-A South Bend after making another appearance or two in rookie ball.

White had a strong outing from deep in Wednesday's series-clinching win, connecting on a quartet of threes to go along with a half-dozen assists, a handful of rebounds and a pair of blocks in a near 20-point showcase. White stepped up for Boston in the semifinals, tallying at least 18 points in two of the five contests. White could be a key factor once again for the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals as an additional option offensively behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Horford dominated the boards in a series-clinching win Wednesday, leading all players in the contest in rebounds to go along with a handful of assists, a team-high trio of blocks and ending as one of two Celtics with 20 or more points in a double-double performance. Horford reached double figures in rebounds for the first time this postseason, also crossing the 20-point mark for the first time.

1h agoTatum supplied 25 points (9-16 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 10 rebounds, nine assists and four steals across 43 minutes during Wednesday's 113-98 win over Cleveland in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Tatum once again led Boston in the semifinals, nearing a triple-double to boost the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals. Tatum led all Boston players in scoring, assists and steals while hauling in a double-digit rebound mark and coming up one dime shy of a triple-double. Tatum joined Larry Bird as the only Celtics players with at least 25 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and four steals in a playoff game. If Tatum can continue to play at the level he played at in the semifinals, Boston will be a tough team to top in the Eastern Conference Finals.

1h agoStrus ended Wednesday's 113-98 loss to the Celtics in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals with 12 points (3-10 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 3-3 FT), seven rebounds and nine assists in 45 minutes.
Strus did a little bit of everything to help Cleveland come away victorious in Game 5, handing out a team-high-tying assist total to go along with a team-high-tying rebound mark in a near double-double outing. Strus reached double figures in scoring in three of the five games against Boston, adding at least seven rebounds and seven assists in the final two games of the series.

1h agoMorris finished with 25 points (10-13 FG, 5-6 3Pt, 0-1 FT), three rebounds and two steals over 33 minutes during Wednesday's 113-98 loss to Boston in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Morris provided the shorthanded Cavaliers with a much-needed boost off the bench in Game 5, leading all bench players in scoring while connecting on a team-high handful of threes in a bench-leading minute total. Morris recorded his best outing of the postseason Wednesday, surpassing double figures in scoring for the second time of the playoffs.

Mobley once again stepped up in the starting lineup for the shorthanded Cavaliers, putting forth his best game of the series despite coming up short and seeing Cleveland's season come to an end. Mobley led all players in Wednesday's contest in scoring while hauling in a team-high-tying rebound total and notching a team-best pair of blocks. Mobley concluded the semifinals by averaging 21.4 points, 9.4 assists and 3.2 assists while shooting 62.7% from the field.

Yakov Trenin COL CAvalanche's Yakov Trenin: Dealing with upper-body injury
1h agoTrenin is being evaluated for an upper-body injury after exiting Wednesday's Game 5 versus the Stars in the first period, Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now reports.
Trenin exited midway through the first period, and it appears unlikely he'll be able to return to the game. If the Avalanche lose Wednesday, the injury will end his season, though it's unclear if he'll be available for Friday's Game 6 should the Avalanche win.

Georgiev has lost three straight games, allowing 10 goals on 85 shots in that span. Despite the slump, head coach Jared Bednar is sticking by his No. 1 goalie with the Avalanche's season on the line Wednesday. If Georgiev can pick up a win, the series will shift back to Colorado for Game 6 on Friday.

David Rittich LA GKings' David Rittich: Inks one-year deal
5h agoRittich signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Kings on Wednesday.
Rittich had a 13-6-3 record, 2.15 GAA and .921 save percentage in 24 regular-season appearances with the Kings in 2023-24. He also stopped 34 of 39 shots (.872 save percentage) across two playoff outings this year. Rittich would have become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he didn't sign this extension. Cam Talbot, who logged 54 regular-season games with LA, remains set to become a UFA, so it's unclear who Rittich's goaltending partner will be next year. Although the 31-year-old Rittich is coming off a strong campaign, he has spent most of his career as a backup goaltender, so it wouldn't be surprising if the Kings seek to pair him with an established starter.

Jake Oettinger DAL GStars' Jake Oettinger: Slated to start Wednesday
8h agoOettinger is set to guard the home goal in Wednesday's Game 5 against the Avalanche, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports.
Oettinger is aiming for his fourth consecutive victory after stopping 80 of 85 shots (.941 save percentage) across his previous three wins over Colorado. The netminder has a 7-4 record, 2.02 GAA and .923 save percentage in 11 playoff appearances this year. While Oettinger has been great, the Avalanche have a potent offense, so it wouldn't be surprising if they prove to be quite the challenge for the 25-year-old goaltender as Colorado fights to avoid elimination.

Petrovic recorded five goals and 22 points in 70 regular-season outings with Texas and contributed a marker in seven AHL playoff contests. The 32-year-old isn't likely to play in Game 5 against Colorado on Wednesday.

Stars' Mavrik Bourque: Brought up from minors
9h agoBourque was called up from AHL Texas on Wednesday.
Bourque's promotion comes after AHL Texas was eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs. The 22-year-old center racked up 26 goals and 51 helpers in 71 AHL regular-season contests before adding another 11 points in seven postseason games with Texas. Even if Bourque doesn't see much time in the Stanley Cup playoffs, he should be in the mix for a roster spot heading into the 2024-25 campaign given his offensive upside.
