Quintez Cephus BUF WR
Quintez Cephus: Time up in Buffalo
1h agoThe Bills cut Cephus on Thursday.
Cephus landed with Buffalo back in April after having missed the entire 2023 season for violating the league's gambling policy. Now, the 2020 fifth-round pick will have to search for a chance to reignite his career with another club. He suited up for 22 regular-season games with the Lions from 2020-22.

Jermar Jefferson DET RB
Lions' Jermar Jefferson: Healthy for offseason program
12h agoJefferson (undisclosed) was on the field last week for the start of Detroit's offseason program.
Jefferson finished the 2023 campaign on Lions' practice squad injured list after sustaining an undisclosed injury in late January. The nature of the 24-year-old's issue was never revealed, though he appears to have moved past the injury over the past few months. Jefferson hasn't seen any regular-season NFL action since 2021, as he's spent both of the past two campaigns on Detroit's practice squad.

James Mitchell DET TE
Lions' James Mitchell: Participates in offseason program
12h agoMitchell (hand) was seen catching passes last week during the beginning of Detroit's offseason program.
Mitchell played 15 games during the 2023 regular season while primarily slotting in as a blocking tight end and contributor on special teams, as he caught just two passes. The 24-year-old then missed the Lions' postseason run with a hand injury. Mitchell's return to action during the offseason program likely means he's moved past the injury or the time being, so he'll likely slot back in behind Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright on the depth chart at tight end to begin the 2024 season.
-
Rodney McLeod CLE FS
Browns' Rodney McLeod: Retiring after 2024 season
17h agoMcLeod (biceps) said Tuesday he plans to retire after the 2024 season, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
McLeod is presumably healthy after a biceps injury limited him to 10 appearances (five starts) in 2023. He signed a one-year deal back in March to return to Cleveland for a second season. The soon-to-be 34-year-old will likely serve as a depth option in the secondary while also handling a role on special teams.
-
Michael Wilson ARI WR
Cardinals' Michael Wilson: Outlook muddied after recent arrivals
2d agoWilson has more competition for targets from quarterback Kyler Murray after the team selected Marvin Harrison fourth overall in this year's draft and then signed seven-year pro Zay Jones last week, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Wilson spent much of the offseason No. 2, at best, in the pecking order in the Cardinals passing game behind tight end Trey McBride, but the recent additions leave Wilson's potential volume in the upcoming campaign up in the air. As a rookie third-round pick last year, Wilson put together a 38-565-3 line on 58 targets in 13 contests, but he produced just 13 catches (on 25 targets) for 164 yards and one touchdown in five outings with Murray under center. The arrival of the dynamic Harrison likely leaves Wilson fending for looks with Jones, who has three years with at least 500 receiving yards on his resume.

Jonah Elliss DEN DE
Broncos' Jonah Elliss: On pace with recovery
2d agoElliss (shoulder) should be fully recovered from shoulder surgery by training camp, Mike Klis of 9News reports.
Elliss underwent surgery to repair a torn shoulder labrum six months ago, but he still isn't quite 100 percent. However, the Broncos' 2024 third-round selection was able to take part in walkthroughs and individual portions of the team's recent rookie minicamp. The son of former NFL player Luther Elliss, Jonah projects to be a pass-rush specialist after recording 12 sacks in just 10 games at Utah last season.

Jorge Soler SF DH
Giants' Jorge Soler: Starts rehab assignment
4m agoSoler (shoulder) went 0-for-4 with one strikeout in his first rehab game with Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.
Soler had a freak accident Tuesday when he was hit in the head by a ball while taking batting practice, but he came out of it no worse for wear and was cleared for a rehab assignment. The slugger is coming back from a right shoulder strain and should be activated by the Giants in the coming days.
-
Nick Martinez CIN RP
Reds' Nick Martinez: Set for bulk-relief role
6m agoMartinez is expected to operate as a bulk reliever behind opener Brent Suter in Thursday's game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Martinez has previously made four starts this season, but because he'll be available on only three days' rest after recorded four outs of the bullpen in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Giants, the Reds will deploy him in bulk relief Thursday in what would have been Nick Lodolo's (groin) turn in the rotation. With Lodolo on 15-day injured list and set to miss at least two weeks, Martinez could move into a more traditional starting role when Lodolo's turn comes up again next week.
-
Byron Buxton MIN CF
Twins' Byron Buxton: Begins rehab assignment
8m agoBuxton (knee) went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in his first rehab game with Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday.
Buxton played seven innings in center field before being lifted from the game. He could need another rehab game or two before being activated by the Twins, but Buxton's return to the Twins' roster is coming soon. He's been out for most of May with right knee inflammation.
-
Elieser Hernandez LAD SP
Dodgers' Elieser Hernandez: Logs quality start
9m agoHernandez was hit with the loss against the Giants on Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk while striking three over six innings.
Hernandez held his own in his first start with the Dodgers, retiring seven of the first nine batters he faced before being tagged for two runs on a Mike Yastrzemski home run in the bottom of the third. The right-hander would allow another run on a Heliot Ramos double in the sixth but was still able to get through the frame and log a quality start in his debut. Hernandez produced 10 swinging strikes on the night and certainly made a case for more innings at the big-league level.
-
Brent Suter CIN RP
Reds' Brent Suter: Set to open Thursday's game
9m agoSuter will serve as the Reds' opening pitcher for Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
With Nick Lodolo (groin) landing on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, the Reds had a hole in the rotation for Thursday's series opener in Los Angeles. Suter has prior starting experience in the majors and previously worked three-plus innings on two occasions this season, but after making one-inning relief appearances Monday and Tuesday, Suter is unlikely to work more than one or two frames Thursday before exiting the contest. Nick Martinez will be available on three days' rest and is expected to work in bulk relief once Suter exits the contest, making Martinez the more attractive target for streaming purposes.
-
Ty Blach COL RP
Rockies' Ty Blach: Stays in rotation
32m agoBlach is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Giants in San Francisco,
He'll be awarded a second consecutive turn through the rotation after he limited the Rangers to one run on seven hits and no walks over five innings en route to grabbing his first win of the season in his last start Sunday. With Kyle Freeland's (elbow) return from the 15-day injured list not considered imminent, Blach should have a fair amount of security in the rotation.

Derrick White BOS SG
Celtics' Derrick White: Nears 20 points in Game 5 victory
12h agoWhite closed with 18 points (7-17 FG, 4-9 3Pt), five rebounds, six assists and two blocks in 36 minutes during Wednesday's 113-98 victory over the Cavaliers in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
White had a strong outing from deep in Wednesday's series-clinching win, connecting on a quartet of threes to go along with a half-dozen assists, a handful of rebounds and a pair of blocks in a near 20-point showcase. White stepped up for Boston in the semifinals, tallying at least 18 points in two of the five contests. White could be a key factor once again for the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals as an additional option offensively behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
-
Al Horford BOS C
Celtics' Al Horford: Owns glass in Game 5 double-double
12h agoHorford accumulated 22 points (8-15 FG, 6-13 3Pt), 15 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and one steal in 35 minutes during Wednesday's 113-98 win over the Cavaliers in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Horford dominated the boards in a series-clinching win Wednesday, leading all players in the contest in rebounds to go along with a handful of assists, a team-high trio of blocks and ending as one of two Celtics with 20 or more points in a double-double performance. Horford reached double figures in rebounds for the first time this postseason, also crossing the 20-point mark for the first time.
-
Jayson Tatum BOS PF
Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Nears triple-double in Game 5 win
12h agoTatum supplied 25 points (9-16 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 10 rebounds, nine assists and four steals across 43 minutes during Wednesday's 113-98 win over Cleveland in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Tatum once again led Boston in the semifinals, nearing a triple-double to boost the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals. Tatum led all Boston players in scoring, assists and steals while hauling in a double-digit rebound mark and coming up one dime shy of a triple-double. Tatum joined Larry Bird as the only Celtics players with at least 25 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and four steals in a playoff game. If Tatum can continue to play at the level he played at in the semifinals, Boston will be a tough team to top in the Eastern Conference Finals.
-
Max Strus CLE SG
Cavaliers' Max Strus: All-around outing in Game 5 defeat
12h agoStrus ended Wednesday's 113-98 loss to the Celtics in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals with 12 points (3-10 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 3-3 FT), seven rebounds and nine assists in 45 minutes.
Strus put up a well-rounded stat line, handing out a team-high-tying assist total to go along with a team-high-tying rebound mark in a near double-double outing. Strus reached double figures in scoring in three of the five games against Boston, adding at least seven rebounds and seven assists in the final two games of the series.
-
Marcus Morris CLE PF
Cavaliers' Marcus Morris: Shines off bench in Game 5 loss
12h agoMorris finished with 25 points (10-13 FG, 5-6 3Pt, 0-1 FT), three rebounds and two steals over 33 minutes during Wednesday's 113-98 loss to Boston in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Morris provided the shorthanded Cavaliers with a much-needed boost off the bench in Game 5, leading all bench players in scoring while connecting on a team-high handful of threes in a bench-leading minute total. Morris recorded his best outing of the postseason Wednesday, surpassing double figures in scoring for the second time in these playoffs.
-
Evan Mobley CLE PF
Cavaliers' Evan Mobley: Does it all as top scorer in Game 5
12h agoMobley provided 33 points (15-24 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 3-5 FT), seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal across 43 minutes during Wednesday's 113-98 loss to Boston in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Mobley once again stepped up in the starting lineup for the shorthanded Cavaliers, putting forth his best game of the series despite the team coming up short as Cleveland's season come to an end. Mobley led all players in Wednesday's contest in scoring while hauling in a team-high-tying rebound total and notching a team-best pair of blocks. Mobley concluded the semifinals by averaging 21.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 62.7 percent from the field.

Samuel Laberge NJ LW
Devils' Samuel Laberge: Re-ups for another year
4m agoLaberge signed a one-year, two-way contract extension with New Jersey on Thursday.
Laberge finally made his NHL debut this season, playing in two games for the Devils in which he generated three hits while logging a combined 6:11 of ice time. Considering the 27-year-old winger has never reached the 20-point threshold in AHL action, he figures to remain primarily a fringe roster option for New Jersey moving forward.
-
Brian Halonen NJ LW
Devils' Brian Halonen: Secures two-year deal
8m agoHalonen inked a two-year, two-way contract with New Jersey on Thursday.
Halonen played in just two NHL games this season in which he registered two shots and two hits while averaging 8:17 of ice time. The 25-year-old winger was significantly more productive in the minors, racking up 20 goals and nine helpers with AHL Utica. Even with this new deal in hand, Halonen figures to remain primarily an AHL option for the club next season.
-
Tyler Seguin DAL C
Stars' Tyler Seguin: Exits late in Game 5
10h agoSeguin sustained an apparent lower-body injury in the third period of Wednesday's Game 5 versus the Avalanche, Taylor Baird of NHL.com reports.
Seguin had two shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in 16:37 of ice time Wednesday. The Stars didn't have an update on his status, which isn't a surprise given it occurred late in the third period. More information should be available prior to Friday's Game 6 in Colorado.
-
Esa Lindell DAL D
Stars' Esa Lindell: Contributes assist in loss
10h agoLindell posted an assist, four blocked shots, two hits and a minus-2 rating in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Avalanche in Game 5.
Lindell set up a Logan Stankoven tally in the third period. The helper was Lindell's second point of the postseason, both of which have come in the last four games. The veteran defenseman has added 17 shots on net, 17 hits, 30 blocks and an even plus-minus rating over 12 playoff contests while filling a top-four role.
-
Matt Duchene DAL C
Stars' Matt Duchene: Adds helper
10h agoDuchene logged an assist in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Avalanche in Game 5.
Duchene has managed three helpers over five games in the second round, but his goal drought is up to seven contests. The 33-year-old center got the bump up to the top line, replacing Roope Hintz (upper body) in that spot as head coach Pete DeBoer elected to keep Wyatt Johnston alongside Jamie Benn. Duchene has a modest five points with 14 shots on net, 14 hits, 12 blocked shots and a plus-1 rating through 12 playoff outings.
-
Jason Robertson DAL LW
Stars' Jason Robertson: Two more helpers in loss
10h agoRobertson recorded two assists, including one on the power play, in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Avalanche in Game 5.
Robertson helped out on the Stars' first two goals. The winger has returned to his playmaking roots with seven helpers over five games in the second round, with four of those assists coming on the power play. For the playoffs, he's earned 12 points, 23 shots on net, 22 hits, 16 blocked shots and a minus-3 rating through 12 appearances.
