Sam Darnold MIN QBVikings' Sam Darnold: Vikings won't rush to name starting QB
7h agoThe Vikings could begin the season with Darnold as the team's starting quarterback despite taking J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, ESPN reports. "We're not going to rush his development," said general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. "We're just going to do what's best for the Vikings in the short and long term."
Darnold signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Vikings as a short-term veteran starter or backup. It's hard to handicap when McCarthy may take over the starting job this soon after the draft, but it's notable the Vikings are trying to reduce expectations. Expect the quarterback battle for the Week 1 starting job to commence this summer. Still, odds are Darnold will only be the starter for a few weeks at most if McCarthy is healthy and making progress.

After four years at Arkansas, Knox transferred to South Carolina for his fifth-year senior season. He compiled a 37-312-2 receiving line for the Gamecocks. He switched positions from wide receiver to tight end in 2021. Knox joins a tight end room that includes T.J. Hockenson, Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt and Nick Muse in Minnesota.

"Tulu" stands at 5-foot-10 and 181 pounds and ran a 4.43 forty at the combine after leading Mississippi State in receiving with a 50-658-4 line as a senior. His main selling point for the Raiders could be his returner skills after he showed some electricity with the ball in his hands during college.

10h agoThe Raiders signed Bradley as an undrafted free agent Saturday.
Bradley has good size at 6-foot-3 and 213 pounds and spent the final two years of his college career at South Alabama following four years in Toledo's program. He threw for 5,996 yards at South Alabama, amassing 47 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. In Las Vegas, Bradley slides in at the bottom of the depth chart behind Gardner Minshew, Aidan O'Connell and Anthony Brown.

Edwards was just a one-year starter at Georgia and overall functioned as part of a backfield committee. He concluded his four-year collegiate career with a 391-2,082-24 rushing line. Edwards is strong in pass-protection and joins a Pittsburgh backfield that is led by Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren and newcomer Cordarrelle Patterson.

11h agoWatson is slated to sign with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
Watson spent five years at Old Dominion before transferring to Memphis for his super-senior season. He led the Tigers in rushing with 192-1,152-14 on the ground and added 53-480-3 as a receiver, earning All-AAC honors. Watson joins a crowded Denver backfield depth chart that includes Javonte Williams, Samaje Perine, Jaleel McLaughlin and fifth-round rookie Audric Estime.

1m agoReynolds went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's win over the Giants.
Reynolds went down on strikes in his first two trips to the plate before eventually adding a single in the top of the eighth. He then jumped on the first pitch he saw from Tyler Rogers in the 10th and sent it into the stands in left field for a two-run shot, putting the Pirates up 3-1. It marked the ninth multi-hit effort this season for Reynolds, who's now homered in two of his last four contests. On the downside, he's also struck out twice in three of those four games.

9m agoBednar earned the save against the Giants on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three over one inning.
Bednar entered the game with a three-run lead in the bottom of the 10th and surrendered a two-run shot to Jorge Soler in the leadoff at-bat to make it 4-3. The reliever would also allow an infield single in the frame, but managed to work his way through it, retiring all three batters by way of strikeout. Bednar has now converted each of his last four save attempts, though he's also allowed at least one run in back-to-back appearances, leaving him with a dreadful 13.50 ERA in April.

Martin Perez PIT SPPirates' Martin Perez: Allows one run in no-decision
19m agoPerez pitched six innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Saturday, allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks over six innings while striking out four.
Perez was highly-efficient Saturday, retiring 11 of the first 13 batters he faced before eventually surrendering an RBI double to Wilmer Flores in the bottom of the sixth. It marked the veteran lefty's third start this season in which he lasted six or more innings while he's now given up two or fewer runs in four of his six outings overall. On the downside, he's also issued multiple walks in all but one start this season.

Jordan Hicks SF SPGiants' Jordan Hicks: Season-high nine strikeouts
29m agoHicks did not factor into the decision against the Pirates on Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out nine of six innings.
Hicks was in the zone Saturday, striking out the side in the first inning before going on to retire 10 of the first 12 batters he faced in the contest. He actually allowed the leadoff man to reach in four of the seven innings in which he appeared, but wasn't charged with a run until the seventh, after being relieved by Luke Jackson. Hicks has now been hit with a no-decision in each of his last three starts despite holding his opponents to two or fewer runs in those outings. The right-hander also recorded a season-high nine strikeouts Saturday and did not walk a batter after issuing at least two free passes in each of his last three starts.

6h agoRamirez went 1-for-4 with one RBI, a walk, a stolen base and one run scored in Saturday's 4-2 extra-innings win over Atlanta.
Ramirez didn't run much early in the campaign, but he's gotten back to it with all four of his steals this year coming over the last eight games. He's gone 9-for-32 (.281) in that span while adding nine RBI and four extra-base hits. Overall, the star third baseman is doing fine with a .259/.276/.455 slash line, five home runs, 24 RBI and 19 runs scored over 116 plate appearances.

6h agoBarlow (2-2) allowed a hit and a walk while striking out one in a scoreless inning to earn the extra-innings win Saturday over Atlanta.
Barlow took care of business in the bottom of the 10th inning, and Cleveland pulled ahead in the 11th. It's a fourth straight scoreless outing for Barlow, who has two wins and two holds in that span. The setup man is at a 3.46 ERA, 1.38 wHIP and 15:8 K:BB through 13 innings overall, though he's improved after a rocky start to 2024.

8h agoJames ended with 30 points (14-23 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, four assists, one block and three steals over 39 minutes during Saturday's 119-108 victory over the Nuggets in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
The Lakers are still alive in the series against the Nuggets, and James became just the fourth player in NBA history to record a 30-point playoff game at the age of 39 or older, joining Reggie Miller, Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on that exclusive list. James has surpassed the 25-point mark in each of the four games in this series, and the Lakers will need him to be at his best once again if they want to avoid elimination in Game 5 on Monday.

Anthony Davis LAL CLakers' Anthony Davis: Massive stat line in Game 4 win
8h agoDavis provided 25 points (11-17 FG, 3-4 FT), 23 rebounds, six assists and one block in 42 minutes during Saturday's 119-108 victory over the Nuggets in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Davis was efficient from the field and active on the glass en route to posting his first 20-point, 20-rebound performance since the win over the Bucks on March 28. Davis has been magnificent in the series despite the fact the Lakers are down 1-3, as he's scored at least 25 points and grabbed double-digit rebounds in each of the four contests. He needs to continue at a high level as a two-way threat if the Lakers want to have a shot at pulling the upset in Game 5 of the series.

8h agoRussell ended Saturday's 119-108 win over the Nuggets in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs with 21 points (8-15 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, four assists and one steal in 41 minutes.
Russell faced tons of scrutiny following a woeful effort in a Game 3 loss during which he finished scoreless (0-7 FG, 0-6 3Pt), but he bounced back admirably and reached the 20-point mark for the second time in this series. Russell will need to carry his hot hand into Game 5 if the Lakers want to avoid elimination Monday.

8h agoPorter chipped in 27 points (10-20 FG, 4-11 3Pt, 3-5 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist and one steal over 40 minutes during Saturday's 119-108 loss to the Lakers in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Porter was Denver's second-best player in this game, as he trailed only Nikola Jokic in scoring and rebounding while notching his second consecutive double-double in the series. Despite playing a secondary role on offense behind Jokic and Jamal Murray, Porter has scored at least 20 points while grabbing nine or more rebounds in his last three contests, a run he'll aim to continue in Game 5 on Monday.

8h agoJokic closed Saturday's 119-108 loss to the Lakers in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs with 33 points (10-20 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 11-11 FT), 14 rebounds, 14 assists, one block and one steal over 41 minutes.
Jokic has two triple-doubles and two double-doubles in the current series against the Lakers, but unlike in the previous three contests, he was unable to carry Denver to victory following yet another slow start. Jokic's individual numbers have been amazing in the series, though, as he's averaging 29.0 points, 15.3 rebounds and 10.0 assists per game. He'll aim to lift the Nuggets to close the series out Monday in Game 5.

8h agoMurray racked up 22 points (9-23 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 4-5 FT), six rebounds, five assists and one block over 39 minutes during Saturday's 119-108 loss to the Lakers in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Murray's shooting woes continued in Game 4, as he finished with nine or fewer shots made while attempting 20-plus for the fourth consecutive contest. His numbers on the surface look good, as Murray is averaging 21.5 points per game while the Nuggets are 3-1 up in the series, but he's shooting a woeful 38 percent from the field. The Nuggets need him to be more efficient if they want to close the series out in Game 5 on Monday.

Victor Hedman TB DLightning's Victor Hedman: Adds three helpers in win
10m agoHedman supplied three assists -- including one on the power play -- in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Panthers for Game 4 of the conference quarterfinals.
Hedman was held off the scoresheet in the series opener but he's since emerged with six helpers, and the power-play quarterback's vintage Game 4 performance helped the Lightning avoid a series sweep. A two-time Stanley Cup champion whose 15-year career has been spent exclusively with Tampa Bay, Hedman should continue to be a major factor so long as his team can keep adding games to its postseason schedule.

25m agoRodrigues supplied an assist in Game 4 on Saturday, albeit in a 6-3 road loss.
Rodrigues had three assists in four road games versus the Bolts in the regular season, but the Panthers were overwhelmed by the Lightning this time around as that team had been facing a possible first-round series sweep. Rodrigues just capped off his second straight season with 39 points, starting in 2022-23 as a member of the Avalanche. A third-line role limits his fantasy prospects, though he continues to work on the man advantage in the playoffs.

6h agoStephenson recorded an assist, two hits, three blocked shots and two PIM in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Stars in Game 3.
Stephenson moved to center on the second line Saturday after previously playing on the wing. The move didn't pay off for Vegas, but Stephenson was able to chip in the lone helper on Brayden McNabb's second-period tally. That assist was Stephenson's first point in three playoff games to go with four shots on net, seven hits, three blocked shots and a minus-2 rating. He should continue to fill a middle-six role.

6h agoEichel scored a shorthanded goal on six shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Stars in Game 3.
Eichel's goal in the second period tied the game at 2-2. The 27-year-old has four goals and six assists during a seven-game point streak, with five of those points coming over three playoff outings. The star center has added eight hits, 11 shots on net and a plus-3 rating in the postseason as he continues to be the centerpiece of the Vegas offense.

6h agoMcNabb scored a goal on four shots, dished an assist, added four hits and blocked five shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Stars in Game 3.
McNabb got the Golden Knights on the board midway through the second period, and he set up a Jack Eichel shorthanded tally just a few minutes later. The 33-year-old McNabb has two goals, one assist, six shots on net, seven hits and 13 blocked shots through three playoff outings in a top-four role. He's best known for his physical play, but he's carried over his career-best regular season into the early stages of the postseason.

6h agoThompson allowed three goals on 46 shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Stars in Game 3.
Thompson's performance was a big reason the game got deep into overtime, as he came up with a handful of big saves against a desperate Stars team. It wasn't enough in the end, as Wyatt Johnston closed the scoring with a top-shelf goal in the extra session. Thompson has allowed seven goals on 96 shots while going 2-1 in the first-round series, and it's unlikely this loss will cost him the starting job. Game 4 is Monday in Vegas.
