Ezekiel Elliott NE RBCowboys' Ezekiel Elliott: Returning to Dallas
2h agoElliott agreed to terms Monday to a contract with the Cowboys, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Elliott will attempt to reignite his career in Dallas, pending a physical, the team with which he spent the first seven years of his NFL career and earned two All-Pro nods. The Cowboys recently lost Tony Pollard to free agency and, to the surprise of most analysts, opted not to select a running back in the 2024 NFL Draft, giving Elliott an easy path to the No. 1 role in a backfield that also includes Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn (ankle). It's unclear how much the former rushing champ has left in the tank entering his age-29 season, as across 17 games with the Patriots last season he carried 184 times for just 642 (3.5 YPC) plus three scores, while adding a 51-313-2 receiving line.

10h agoPowell, Jalen Nailor and Trent Sherfield are the leading candidates for the No. 3 receiver role after the Vikings did not take a wide receiver in the 2024 Draft, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
It was a mild surprise the Vikings didn't draft a wide receiver after the departure of K.J. Osborn (New England) in free agency, leaving Powell as the leading candidate for the No. 3 receiver role. The Vikings could add a veteran free agent later this spring to compete for the job. Whoever wins the role could get a significant number of targets early in the season with tight end T.J. Hockenson likely to miss several games in coming back from January surgery for a torn ACL.

11h agoWith the Colts not taking a running back in the 2024 Draft, Sermon and Evan Hull are the primary backups to starter Jonathan Taylor, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
It was a mild surprise that the Colts didn't draft a running back or sign a prominent undrafted free agent to compete for the starting role. It's possible the Colts will sign a veteran free agent this spring for depth, but at this point Sermon could have a prominent backup role. He rushed 35 times, including 17 carries in Week 15, for 160 yards to go along with three catches for 13 yards with Indy last season.

11h agoPierce and 2024 second-round draft pick Adonai Mitchell will compete on the outside for the No. 3 receiver role in training camp, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Pierce has been the starting deep threat for the Colts the last two campaigns but without much production (just 32 receptions for 514 yards and two touchdowns last season). While that may have been due to poor quarterback play and a game plan that didn't throw the ball deep, it has opened the door for a dynamic talent like Mitchell to compete for his job. Mitchell, the former Texas and Georgia receiver, dazzled at the NFL Scouting Combine (4.34-second 40-yard dash, 136-inch broad jump) following a productive end to his Longhorns career (55 catches for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns on 92 targets in 2023).

Daxton Hill CIN DBBengals' Dax Hill: Operating as cornerback in 2024
14h agoHill is expected to be a part of the Bengals' cornerback room in 2024, Jay Morrison of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Hill spent his sophomore campaign operating as a starting safety for the Bengals, recording 110 tackles, including 1.5 sacks, while also intercepting two passes and deflecting 11 others over 17 contests. Head coach Zac Taylor said Sunday that Hill will "be in the cornerback room" this year, which could mean a position change is in store. The team signed former Raven Geno Stone this offseason and could replace Hill at safety in 2024.

6m agoMyers went 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Nationals.
Getting the start in right field and batting seventh in his season debut with the Marlins, Myers ripped a three-bagger off Patrick Corbin in the first inning and came around to score on Vidal Brujan's own triple in the very next at-bat. While he's in the majors, Myers will likely be deployed primarily against southpaws behind Miami's outfield trio of Jazz Chisholm, Jesus Sanchez and Nick Gordon, all of whom hit left-handed. If he gets hot at the plate though, the offense-starved Marlins could give Myers more playing time than expected.

11m agoDe La Cruz went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Nationals.
It was the 27-year-old's first multi-hit performance since April 17. De La Cruz has cooled down significantly, batting .205 (8-for-39) over the last 10 games, but he remains entrenched as the No. 2 hitter for a Miami team struggling to find consistent offense. On the season, he's slashing .261/.294/.437 with five homers, a steal, 13 runs and 14 RBI in 29 contests.

16m agoMayza retired the only batter he faced to record his third hold of the season in Sunday's win over the Dodgers.
Brought in to face Max Muncy with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth inning, Mayza battled the veteran slugger for eight pitches, eventually giving up a deep fly ball to left-center field that Daulton Varsho caught with his back against the fence. Mayza has had a shaky start to the season, but he may be turning things around -- he's been scored upon only once in his last seven appearances. On the season, the 32-year-old carries a 6.30 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 8:7 K:BB through 10 innings, but he remains the top lefty in the Toronto bullpen.

23m agoMinter (5-1) picked up the win in Sunday's victory over the Guardians, giving up one hit in a scoreless 10th inning.
The 30-year-old southpaw has already tied his career high in wins, needing only 14 appearances to do it -- he had five wins in 75 appearances in 2022. Minter has been brilliant in his high-leverage role to begin the season, posting a 1.32 ERA, 0.59 WHIP and 15:1 K:BB through 13.2 innings while adding three holds to his ledger.

Austin Riley ATL 3BBraves' Austin Riley: Could be emerging from slump
28m agoRiley posted an exit velocity over 100 mph on three different balls Saturday but failed to get a hit on any of them, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
The third baseman did collect two hits Sunday, including a walk-off single in the 10th inning, but for the most part Riley hasn't been getting results of late -- he hasn't homered in 18 straight games, slashing .222/.317/.319 over that stretch with five doubles, a triple and six RBI. Given the way he's swinging the bat, however, it seems only a matter of time before the 27-year-old heats up. Advanced metrics back up the idea that Riley's lack of production is mainly due to bad luck -- he sits in the 90th percentile in barrel rate on the season, right in line with his 2023 (89th percentile) and 2022 (96th percentile) campaigns.

33m agoOlson hasn't hit a home run in 18 straight games, slashing .167/.291/.242 over that stretch with three doubles, one triple and seven RBI, but he remains among the league leaders in key hitting metrics, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Despite the first baseman's lack of production in April, Olson sits in the 97th percentile in hard-hit rate and average exit velocity on the season, numbers comparable to what he posted during his career-best 2023 campaign. It seems only a matter of time before the 30-year-old gets dialed in and begins racking up hits and homers.

After missing the first two games of the playoffs due to back injury recovery and then not leaving the bench in Game 3 in a coach's decision, Melton made his series debut Sunday. Melton didn't make much of an impact during his limited time on the floor, and he's uncertain to be included in the rotation in Game 5 on Tuesday, when the 76ers will look to stave off elimination.

Turner continued his strong performance in the series against Milwaukee, taking advantage of the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) by putting together another well-rounded outing to help Indiana to a commanding 3-1 series lead. Turner led all players in Sunday's contest in threes made while leading the Pacers in scoring, rebounds and blocks in a near double-double showing. Turner has been dominant all series, posting at least 20 points and seven rebounds in three of his four postseason outings.

13h agoHaliburton finished with 24 points (8-16 FG, 5-12 3Pt, 3-3 FT), four rebounds four assists and one steal over 32 minutes in Sunday's 126-113 win over the Bucks in Game 4 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Haliburton followed up his breakout performance in Friday's Game 3 by putting forth another strong outing in Game 4, connecting on a handful of threes while ending as one of two Pacers players with 20 or more points in a winning effort. Haliburton tallied his highest point total of the series against Milwaukee, also connecting on more than three shots from beyond the arc for the first time of the playoffs. Look for Haliburton to have another big game in a potential series-clinching Game 5 as he attempts to lead Indiana to the next round.

Pascal Siakam IND PFPacers' Pascal Siakam: Well-rounded showing in Game 4
13h agoSiakam notched 13 points (6-14 FG< 0-4 3Pt, 1-3 FT), nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one block over 40 minutes in Sunday's 126-113 win over the Bucks in Game 4 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Siakam has been outstanding for Indiana all series against Milwaukee, posting a well-rounded performance in Sunday's Game 4 while helping the Pacers take a commanding 3-1 series lead. Siakam struggled shooting a bit from the field, but he still reached double figures in scoring while ending one rebound and three assists short of a triple-double. Siakam has tallied at least 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists in two games this series, and we should expect him to continue to shine for Indiana in a potential series-clinching Game 5 in Milwaukee.

13h agoBeasley tallied 20 points (8-12 FG, 4-7 3Pt), three rebounds and two assists over 34 minutes in Sunday's 126-113 loss to the Pacers in Game 4 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Beasley entered the starting lineup Sunday with Damian Lillard (Achilles) being added to Milwaukee's inactive list, connecting on a team-high mark from three. Beasley reached double figures in scoring for the first time of the postseason, connecting on at least three threes in two straight outings. If Lillard is unable to return in a win-or-go-home Game 5, look for Beasley to remain in the starting lineup or at least have a large role in the rotation for the Bucks.

Lopez led all Bucks players in scoring in Sunday's loss while connecting on a trio of threes and ending one rebound shy of a double-double in a balanced performance. Lopez has stepped up as the leader in the paint for Milwaukee during the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf), reaching double figures in all four postseason games while finishing with his highest scoring and rebound marks of the series thus far.

Casey Mittelstadt COL CAvalanche's Casey Mittelstadt: Records assist in win
27m agoMittelstadt registered an assist and five shots in Game 4 in a 5-1 victory over Winnipeg on Sunday.
Mittelstadt has been solid in the postseason, generating five points, 15 shots and five hits in four playoff contests. In his 22 games for the Avs since being acquired at the trade deadline, the 25-year-old center has produced offensively with five goals and 10 assists, though just one of those points has come with the man advantage.

Trevor Moore LA LWKings' Trevor Moore: Fails to score in loss
33m agoMoore couldn't put one past the keeper despite registering five shots on goal in Sunday's 1-0 Game 4 loss to Edmonton.
Moore and the Kings couldn't figure out Oilers' netminder Stuart Skinner, who recorded his first shutout since Dec. 28 versus the Sharks. Through the first four postseason contests, the 29-year-old Moore has notched just one point, a far cry from his career-best regular season in which he set new highs in goals (31) and points (57). If the Kings are going to climb out of their 3-1 series deficit, Moore is going to have to start contributing offensively.

Nate Schmidt WPG DJets' Nate Schmidt: Bends twine in Game 4
1h agoSchmidt scored a goal on one shot in a 5-1 defeat to the Avalanche in Game 4.
Schmidt scored for just the third time this year, a significant drop off from the previous campaign in which he generated seven goals during the regular season. At this point, fantasy players probably shouldn't be expecting the 32-year-old Minnesota native to produce offensively with any regularity, making him a fringe fantasy option in postseason contests.

Stanley earned his first point since March 17 versus the Blue Jackets, a stretch of 11 appearances without getting on the scoresheet. The 25-year-old blueliner was a healthy scratch for Game 3 but found his way back into the lineup following the injury to Brenden Dillon (hand).

Cale Makar COL DAvalanche's Cale Makar: Scores goal, assist in win
1h agoMakar scored a goal on three shots and picked up an assist in Sunday's Game 4 win over the Jets.
Makar has points in six straight games, racking up a combined three goals and eight assists, including five power-play points. During the regular season, the defenseman notched a career-high 90 points but still finished second behind Quinn Hughes for the NHL lead. If the Avs make a deep run into the postseason, Makar could be in contention for the Conn Smythe trophy, especially if he continues to produce at this level.

Connor McDavid EDM COilers' Connor McDavid: Adds power-play helper
8h agoMcDavid logged a power-play assist in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Kings in Game 4.
McDavid continues to be a big playmaker for the Oilers, with a goal and nine helpers through four playoff contests. He's earned eight of his 10 points with the man advantage, with the Oilers vastly overpowering the Kings while a man up. McDavid has added 10 shots on net, nine hits and a plus-1 rating in the postseason while playing in his usual top-line role.
