8h agoManning (undisclosed) cleared waivers and reverted to the Panthers' injured reserve list Monday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
The severity of Manning's injury is not yet known. The offensive guard will need to reach an injury settlement with the team to potentially play in 2024.

9h agoDorsett signed with the Broncos on Monday after being released Friday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
The wide receiver spent 2023 with Denver's practice squad, playing in two games and not catching any of his three targets. The 2015 first-round pick has just 21 receptions over the past four seasons with four different teams. Now he'll get a chance to stick with Denver on a depth chart that includes 12 wide receivers.

The running back signed with New York's practice squad in December and inked a reserve/future contract in January. Patrick last appeared in an NFL game in 2021 with the 49ers.

9h agoPenisini was waived by the Saints on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
The defensive tackle played in 32 games with the Lions between the 2020 and 2021 seasons but has not appeared in an NFL game since. Penisini was waived from Carolina's reserve/PUP list last August.

12h agoThe Panthers signed Smith on Monday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Smith bounced back and forth between the Vikings' practice squad and active roster over the course of his three-year NFL career, but he's now found a new home in Carolina. The 27-year-old defensive lineman has appeared in four games during his time in the league, recording 11 total tackles while playing 108 total snaps (86 defensive, 22 on special teams). He's expected to compete for a backup role in the Panthers defense as the offseason advances.

Jared Goff DET QBLions' Jared Goff: Lands four-year, $212M extension
12h agoThe Lions signed Goff to a four-year, $212 million contract extension Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The deal contains $170 million guaranteed, and Goff is now the highest-paid player in Lions franchise history. The 2016 No. 1 overall pick of the Rams, Goff was acquired from Los Angeles in the Matthew Stafford haul from the 2021 offseason and has resurrected his career under Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. In three seasons with Detroit, Goff has completed 66.5 percent of his passes, up from 63.4 percent with Los Angeles, and has thrown for 12,258 yards with a splendid 78:27 TD:INT. He's lowered his turnover rate with Detroit and just helped lead the team to the NFC Championship Game last season. Goff is still just 29 years old and is locked in with the Lions for at least the next few seasons.

1h agoBlanco went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Monday's 6-2 loss to the Mariners.
Blanco was 1-for-2 on stolen base attempts in the game. The outfielder began the year in a bench role, but he's hit his way into starting four of the last five games with time at all three outfield positions. He's gone 7-for-17 (.412) since May 6. Blanco doesn't have much of a track record in a starting role, but he's slashed .293/.356/.439 with a home run, two RBI, 14 runs scored and 11 steals through 45 plate appearances this season as a speed-and-defense option. Blanco's increased playing time has primarily come at the expense of MJ Melendez and Kyle Isbel.

Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Picks up win Monday
2h agoLeahy (1-1) struck out three over 2.2 perfect innings to earn the win Monday over Angels.
Starter Matthew Liberatore labored through 3.1 innings, while Leahy was sharp and kept the Cardinals' deficit at four runs. The team's offense made a rare explosion with eight runs in the seventh inning, and they held the lead the rest of the way to get Leahy his first big-league win. The right-hander has a 5.59 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB over 9.2 innings through five appearances as a long reliever this season. With Liberatore still not stretched out as a starter, Leahy could continue to piggyback him while Steven Matz (back) is on the injured list.

Brayan Rocchio CLE SSGuardians' Brayan Rocchio: Notches seventh steal
2h agoRocchio went 2-for-4 with one RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in Monday's 7-0 win over the Rangers.
Rocchio looked decent at the plate in early May, but he went 0-for-11 across three games versus the White Sox over the weekend. The shortstop has at least shown good speed with seven steals on nine attempts this season. He's added a middling .212/.296/.280 slash line with seven RBI, 18 runs scored and eight doubles through 136 plate appearances. Rocchio continues to hold down a starting role and even got a look at leadoff versus a lefty (Garrett Crochet) Friday as the Guardians look for a solution at the top of the order with Steven Kwan (hamstring) sidelined.

2h agoGaddis (2-1) struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the win Monday over the Rangers.
It took the Guardians' offense until the eighth inning to get on the board, but they took full control after that. Gaddis took three straight blown saves to close out April, but he's rebounded with 5.2 scoreless innings to begin May. The right-hander has added eight holds, a 2.18 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB through 20.2 innings this season as a key part of the bridge to closer Emmanuel Clase.

2h agoWebb (0-2) allowed an unearned run on one hit over 1.1 innings to take the extra-inning loss versus the Blue Jays on Monday. He did not strike out or walk a batter.
Webb was charged with an unearned run when Keegan Akin allowed the initial runner to score in the 10th inning after he relieved Webb. The 30-year-old Webb hasn't given up an earned run in 6.2 innings, posting an 8:3 K:BB while allowing two unearned runs in that span. He's at a 1.47 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB through 18.1 innings overall while adding two saves and three holds this season.

2h agoFrance went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Royals in a 6-2 win Monday.
France provided a pair of insurance runs with his two-run, eighth-inning blast that doubled Seattle's lead from two to four. The long ball was his first since April 27, and during the 13-game homerless stretch he had batted just .191 with a 2:15 BB:K. France's offensive numbers are down across the board this season, with a significant contributing factor being a 24.3 percent strikeout rate that is on pace for his worst mark since his 2019 rookie campaign.

Strus led all players in Monday's contest in threes made while ending as one of four Cavaliers with double-digit scoring and handing out a team-high-tying assist total along with a pair of steals. Strus, who also hauled in seven boards, posted a new playoff high in threes made and notched his second game with 10 or more points in the series against the Celtics.

6h agoGarland accumulated 30 points (12-27 FG, 4-13 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, seven assists and two steals over 40 minutes during Monday's 109-102 loss to Boston in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Garland led all Cavaliers in scoring while connecting on a quartet of threes, handing out a team-high-tying assist total and adding a pair of steals in a well-rounded Game 4 against the Celtics. Garland, playing with more weight on his shoulders to lead the short-handed Cavaliers offensively, posted his highest scoring total of the postseason thus far. He has recorded at least 14 points and four assists in all four games against Boston in the semifinals.

6h agoLeVert ended with 19 points (9-18 FG, 1-8 3Pt), five rebounds, three assists, one block and two steals across 39 minutes during Monday's 109-102 loss to the Celtics in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
LeVert got the starting nod with the Cavaliers playing without Jarrett Allen (ribs) and Donovan Mitchell (calf), providing a lift offensively while ending one point shy of the 20-point mark in a losing effort. LeVert has been a key player coming off the bench for Cleveland this series, posting 15 or more points in three of the four games against Boston. If Mitchell is able to return for Game 5, look for LeVert to return to the second unit to be a spark off the bench. If Mitchell does miss Game 5, LeVert will be called upon again to step into the starting lineup.

Holiday led all Celtics in Game 4 in threes made while ending as one of three players with 15 or more points to go along with a team-high-tying handful of assists and a team-best trio of steals in a winning effort. Holiday connected on at least four threes for the first time this postseason, and he has now tallied at least 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists in two straight contests for Boston.

6h agoBrown amassed 27 points (9-15 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 7-9 FT), eight rebounds and one assist in 34 minutes during Monday's 109-102 victory over Cleveland in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Brown was part of a dominant pairing alongside Jayson Tatum, leading Boston offensively en route to helping the team take a 3-1 series advantage. Brown connected on a pair of threes while ending as one of two players with 25 or more points in the victory, also finishing two rebounds shy of a double-double. Brown has turned his game up a notch over the last two games against Cleveland, posting at least 25 points and eight boards in two straight outings.

6h agoTatum had 33 points (11-25 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 9-9 FT), 11 rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals across 44 minutes during Monday's 109-102 win over the Cavaliers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Tatum did a little bit of everything to lead Boston to taking a commanding 3-1 series lead, pacing all players in Monday's contest in scoring and rebounds while shooting a perfect mark from the free-throw line and adding a handful of assists along with a pair of steals. Tatum has scored 25 or more points in three of his four games against Cleveland, turning things up a notch over the last two contests while posting at least 30 points, 10 rebounds and five dimes in each game.

Jonathan Drouin COL LWAvalanche's Jonathan Drouin: Earns helper in return
1h agoDrouin notched an assist and went minus-2 in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Stars in Game 4.
Drouin made his postseason debut Monday and helped out on Casey Mittelstadt's second-period tally. The 29-year-old Drouin added one shot on net and saw 19:12 of ice time, including 2:27 on the power play. With Valeri Nichushkin (suspension) done for the playoffs, Drouin could get shifted up to the top line for Wednesday's Game 5, which will see the Avalanche attempt to stave off elimination.

Mittelstadt has two points over four games in the second round, with his tally Monday being all the Avalanche could muster against Jake Oettinger in the contest. The 25-year-old Mittelstadt is at eight points, 20 shots on net and 12 hits through nine playoff outings. The Avalanche's offense has been lacking both in volume and depth in this series, so Mittelstadt is far from the only player that needs to find another level with the team's season on the line going forward.

Alexandar Georgiev COL GAvalanche's Alexandar Georgiev: Surrenders four goals in loss
1h agoGeorgiev gave up four goals on 33 shots in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Stars in Game 4. The fifth goal was an empty-netter.
Georgiev kept the Avalanche in the game for longer than they should have been, as the Stars put him under siege in the first period but came away with just one goal. They added two more in the second, and the Avalanche's offense once again failed to give Georgiev much to work with. He's allowed 13 goals over four games in the second round, going 1-3 with an .879 save percentage. Head coach Jared Bednar is likely to ride with Georgiev, who will be tasked with keeping the Avalanche's season going in elimination games, starting with Wednesday's Game 5.

Stankoven set up Miro Heiskanen's second-period tally, which gave the Stars a 3-0 lead. With three points over his last two games, Stankoven appears to be finding a rhythm in the playoffs. He's at five points, 22 shots on net, 17 hits and a plus-4 rating through 11 postseason appearances.

The 32-year-old forward could be called on for a larger role if Roope Hintz (upper body) can't suit up in Wednesday's Game 5. Seguin has seven points, 35 shots, 17 hits and a plus-8 rating over 11 playoff appearances.
