Chris Olave NO WRSaints' Chris Olave: Set as WR1 in Big Easy
40m agoOlave is in line to once again serve as the focal point of New Orleans' passing attack after the team added just one wide receiver in the 2024 NFL Draft, selecting Bub Means at No. 170 overall.
Olave is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons to begin his career. The 2022 first-round pick has provided much-needed juice to an otherwise stale Saints offense. In fact, he's the only receiver to put up more than 720 yards in either of the past two seasons, as the team relied largely on aging veterans like Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry to buoy the passing game. New Orleans then moved on from both players this offseason by cutting Thomas in March and letting Landry walk in free agency. Meanwhile, the team went cheap with its additions at the position, signing free agents Cedrick Wilson and Equanimeous St. Brown and waiting until the fifth round to draft Means. As a result, the Saints will more than likely enter the 2024 season with three pass-catchers who have recorded more than 500 yards in a single season - Olave, No.2 wide receiver Rashid Shaheed and tight end Juwan Johnson. 2023 sixth-round pick A.T. Perry will likely round out this receiving room, which Olave should clearly lead once again in 2024.

Alvin Kamara NO RBSaints' Alvin Kamara: Role safe following NFL Draft
1h agoKamara (ankle) is in a strong position to maintain his role in New Orleans' offense after the team did not pick a running back in the 2024 NFL Draft, instead signing Jacob Kibodi as an undrafted free agent.
The Saints added two running backs by this point of last offseason, bringing in veteran free agent Jamaal Williams and third-round pick Kendre Miller for depth behind Kamara. The latter running back still shouldered the majority of work out of the backfield with 180 carries for 694 yards and five touchdowns. He also played a significant role in the passing game with 75 receptions for 466 yards. This versatility speaks to Kamara's importance in what was an extremely limited offense. Williams unsurprisingly played much more sparingly as a short-yardage back, and he should function in a similar role in 2024. Taysom Hill has always been used as a swiss army knife who, at times, operates as a rushing quarterback out of the shotgun. But, Hill's usage has never threatened Kamara's production in the past. Instead, his biggest obstacles to seeing another heavy workload in 2024 would be whether or not Miller starts to see more opportunities or if Kamara continues to struggle with injuries, as he did miss the 2023 season finale with a sprained ankle. The Saints added offensive lineman Taliese Fuaga with the 14th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which could help keep defenders off Kamara while improving the team's overall ground game as a whole.

Brandon Aiyuk SF WR49ers' Brandon Aiyuk: Likely staying in Bay Area
5h ago49ers GM John Lynch recently told ESPN's Pat McAfee Show that he doesn't want to trade Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel despite taking Ricky Pearsall in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Trade rumors earlier in the offseason centered on Aiyuk, who is scheduled to play out 2024 under the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. After the Niners drafted Pearsall, a few reporters suggested Samuel was actually more likely to be moved, in which case the Niners presumably would place greater emphasis on signing Aiyuk to a long-term deal. It now appears both will stay with the team this season, as will returning No. 3 receiver Jauan Jennings. That's not a guarantee, but it at least seems more likely that spring 2025 will be the break-up date for San Francisco's veteran WR corps. Aiyuk and Jennings are only under contract through 2024, while Samuel has two more year on his deal but no guaranteed money after this season.

1d agoThompson-Robinson (hip) will undergo an MRI on Monday and is expected to participate in minicamp next week, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
DTR suffered a hip subluxation against the Texans on Christmas Eve and was ruled out for the remainder of the Browns' season. His most recent MRI in March revealed progress in his rehab, and Thompson-Robinson is hoping the latest one this upcoming week will allow him to get the green light to do some on-field work with the team's rookies and fellow younger players. The Browns signed veteran QBs Jameis Winston and Tyler Huntley in the offseason, so DTR is facing stiff competition for backup duties behind Deshaun Watson.

6m agoSantana allowed one hit in one scoreless inning to earn the save during Sunday's 5-2 win over the Tigers. He struck out two.
Santana tossed his sixth-consecutive scoreless outing and was credited with his second save when the game was called after eight innings due to rain. Had the game completed a full nine innings, it is likely that the Yankees' regular closer Clay Holmes would have earned the nod despite having thrown 15 pitches to close out Saturday's contest.

6m agoNaylor went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 4-1 win over the Angels.
Naylor entered Sunday's game 2-for-19 in his past five games but broke out of the cold spell with a 410-foot homer in the eighth inning off Matt Moore. With eight home runs through 32 games, Naylor is well on his way to a career high in the category, which he set with 20 home runs over 122 games in 2022. He boasts a monstrous .263 ISO this season.

James McArthur KC RPRoyals' James McArthur: Blown save, loss versus Texas
10m agoMcArthur (1-1) blew a save and picked up the loss after he pitched two innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out three batters in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning defeat to the Rangers.
McArthur entered the game with the Royals up 2-1 in the top of the ninth inning, giving up a game-tying solo home run to Jonah Heim with one out in the inning. He later returned for the top of the 10th frame, allowing the inherited runner to score on an RBI single by Nathaniel Lowe. The blown save was McArthur's second in nine total save opportunities this season and he currently possesses a 2.87 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 18 strikeouts over 15.2 innings in 13 appearances this season.

16m agoRamirez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's 4-1 win over LAA.
Ramirez took Griffin Canning yard in the sixth inning, getting the Guardians on the board and plating Andres Gimenez. The long ball was his sixth of the campaign, a total that trails only Josh Naylor -- who also homered Sunday -- for the team lead. He also notched his fifth stolen base, each of which came in the last 15 games.

Nestor Cortes NYY SPYankees' Nestor Cortes: Strikes out nine in quality start
19m agoCortes did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over 6.1 innings against the Tigers. He struck out nine.
Cortes matched a season high with nine strikeouts as he allowed only four baserunners in the contest. Cortes shut out the Tigers through six but was pulled with one out in the seventh after allowing two base hits in the inning. Both runners eventually came around to score, tying the game and ending Cortes' bid to earn his second win. It was the fourth quality start in eight games for Cortes, who lowered his ERA to 3.72 with a 1.03 WHIP and 46 strikeouts through 48.1 innings. His next start is tentatively scheduled to take place next weekend when the Yankees travel to Tampa for a division showdown against the Rays.

20m agoLynch tossed five scoreless innings, walking two batters and allowing two hits while striking out six in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Rangers. He did not factor into the decision.
Lynch was promoted from Triple-A Omaha ahead of Sunday's start and he certainly stepped up his game, blanking the defending champs over five frames. The left-hander was able to work around three baserunners in the first inning to set the tone and ultimately went on to pitch four more scoreless innings in his first major-league outing of the year. Lynch could remain in the starting rotation for Kansas City for the time being with Alec Marsh (elbow) still unavailable. If he gets another turn in the rotation with the big-league club, Lynch's next start is tentatively set to come on the road against the Angels next weekend.

2h agoHaliburton is questionable for Monday's Game 1 against the Knicks due to back spasms.
Haliburton was a late addition to the injury report ahead of Game 4 of the Pacers' opening-round series versus the Bucks but ultimately got the green light and averaged 19.0 points, 6.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds in 32.7 minutes over the final three matchups versus Milwaukee. Given it's the postseason and he hasn't missed a game yet, Haliburton is likely more probable than questionable, but his official availability will be a game-time decision.

3h agoMurray is questionable for Monday's Game 2 against the Timberwolves due to a left calf strain.
Murray continues to play through the calf issue but wasn't at his best during Sunday's Game 1 loss, as he posted only 17 points and four assists. Despite not being 100 percent, he averaged 23.6 points, 7.2 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 39.8 minutes during the opening-round series against the Lakers, including two game-winning shots. Murray is likely more probable than questionable, but his official availability will be a game-time decision.

5h agoCoach Jason Kidd said Hardaway (ankle) returned to practice Sunday, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
Hardaway sprained his right ankle during Game 2 of the opening-round series against the Clippers and missed the final four contests. His return to practice is an encouraging sign, but Hardaway's official status for Tuesday's Game 1 against the Thunder likely won't be known until Monday afternoon.

With Jarrett Allen (hip) sidelined, Morris got a chance in the starting unit during Game 6 but finished with just two points (1-7 FG) and eight rebounds in 27 minutes during a disappointing loss. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff has reinserted Isaac Okoro into the starting lineup in place of Morris for the decisive Game 7. In Game 5, Morris came off the bench and posted 12 points (4-9 FG) in 26 minutes.

With Jarrett Allen (hip) out, Okoro started Cleveland's Game 5 win and posted eight points (2-10 FG), four rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes. Okoro was replaced in the starting lineup by Marcus Morris for Game 6, but coach J.B. Bickerstaff has flipped them again ahead of Game 7. As a starter this season (43 games), Okoro has averaged 10.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals-plus-blocks in 30.1 minutes per game.

Igor Shesterkin NYR GRangers' Igor Shesterkin: Grabs Game 1 win
1m agoShesterkin stopped 22 of 25 shots in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Hurricanes in Game 1 of the second round.
Shesterkin didn't show much rust despite getting a week off after the Rangers swept the Capitals in the first round. He's won seven starts in a row, and this was just the second time in that span he's given up more than two goals. The 28-year-old netminder has allowed 10 goals over five playoff outings and should have no trouble maintaining his place between the pipes in the second round.

Frederik Andersen CAR GHurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Guarding goal in Game 1
4h agoAndersen will guard the road net in Game 1 against the Rangers on Sunday, per Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site.
Andersen was superb in the first round of the postseason, posting a 4-1 record with a 2.25 GAA and a .912 save percentage against the Islanders. The Rangers rank fifth in the playoffs with 3.75 goals per contest.

4h agoShesterkin will get the starting nod for Game 1 at home against the Hurricanes on Sunday, Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports.
Shesterkin was dominant in a sweep over the Capitals last round. He posted a .931 save percentage and allowed two or fewer goals in three contests. The 28-year-old hasn't lost a game since April 9 and hasn't given up more than three goals in a start since March 26. Shesterkin is 9-2-0 with a 1.98 GAA over his last 11 appearances.

During Demko's absence, Casey DeSmith and Arturs Silovs shared time between the pipes. The 23-year-old Silovs could make his fourth straight start in Game 1 versus the Oilers.

6h agoFantilli will suit up for Team Canada in the IIHF World Championship opener Sunday.
Fantilli missed the final 33 games of the regular season after suffering a lacerated calf on Jan. 28. Now healthy, the 19-year-old center will look to contribute to Team Canada's run in the IIHF World Championships before preparing for the 2024-25 season. Fantilli finished his rookie campaign with 12 goals and 27 points in 49 games.
