Jake Haener NO QBSaints' Jake Haener: Competition for QB2
44m agoHaener appears to be the early frontrunner to serve as the QB2 for the Saints this offseason, John Hendrix of Sports Illustrated reports.
Haener was suspended for the first six games of his 2023 campaign and has yet to make his NFL debut. But, the 6-foot-1 signal caller should have a chance to establish himself as QB2 after New Orleans made several changes at the quarterback position this offseason. Last year's No.2 QB Jameis Winston signed with the Colts in March. Meanwhile, the Saints signed veteran backup Nathan Peterman and fourth-year quarterback Kellen Mond this offseason before selecting Spencer Rattler in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Carr is still clearly set as the starter, but the competition for QB2 figures to be wide open this offseason. Haener's experience within the Saints' quarterback room should give him an immediate leg up on Peterman, Mond and Rattler. 33-year-old Taysom Hill is also listed as a quarterback by the Saints, but he's better described as a multi-use player who regularly slots in at positions across the offense and special teams. It's highly unlikely that the team will carry more than three quarterbacks on the active roster during the 2024 campaign. Therefore, it will be worth monitoring how this competition shapes up during offseason workouts and training camp while projecting this quarterback depth chart.

4h agoPeat signed with the Raiders on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The offensive guard and three-time Pro Bowler spent his first nine seasons in New Orleans. Peat has started 102 of his 111 career games, but he is listed as the Raiders' backup left guard behind Dylan Parham.

Marlon Davidson TEN DETitans' Marlon Davidson: Re-signs with Tennessee
4h agoDavidson re-signed with the Titans on Monday after spending the 2023 season with the team.
The defensive tackle played in five games and on 153 defensive snaps last year, recording 10 tackles. Davidson finished with 29 tackles in two seasons with the Falcons before missing the 2022 season with a knee injury. The 2020 second-round pick is behind Jeffery Simmons on Tennessee's depth chart.

4h agoPitts was waived by the Packers on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
The wide receiver joined the Green Bay practice squad in December and signed a reserve/future contract in January. Pitts was cut from the Patriots' practice squad before the 2023 season began.

6h agoThe Panthers agreed to terms with Penny on Monday.
Penny is now 28 years old and spent last season in Philadelphia, where he appeared in just three regular-season games and was routinely a healthy scratch on game days. When healthy in Seattle from 2018-2022, he was electric with the ball in his hands, averaging a lethal 5.7 yards per carry on 337 rushing attempts, but an inability to stay on the field was his downfall. He has a history with new Panthers coach Dave Canales from their time together in Seattle, and Penny gives the Panthers backfield some more experience behind Chuba Hubbard and rookie Jonathon Brooks. There has been chatter that Miles Sanders' time may be running out with the team after just one season in Carolina.

9h agoBurrow (wrist) was on the field throwing at the Bengals' facility Monday.
Burrow's season ended 27 snaps into Week 11 last season, after which he required surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right (throwing) wrist. Earlier in the offseason, he stated that he expected to be fully cleared by mid-May, and it appears he's on track. Burrow should be all systems go well in time for training camp later this summer. His weaponry has gone a bit of an overhaul, with Joe Mixon, Tyler Boyd and Irv Smith jettisoned. Veterans Zack Moss and Mike Gesicki were signed as free agents to go along with returnees Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Christopher Morel CHC 3BCubs' Christopher Morel: Goes deep, swipes bag
20m agoMorel went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer, a walk and a steal in Monday's loss to the Padres.
Morel put the Cubs on the board with his two-run shot in the sixth inning after snagging a steal earlier in the contest. He has five hits over his last five games and four of them have left the yard. The 24-year-old is slashing .220/.315/.449 with 12 extra-base hits (eight home runs), four stolen bases and 23 RBI through 35 games this season.

Justin Steele CHC SPCubs' Justin Steele: Sharp in return
23m agoSteele allowed three hits and a walk over 4.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision Monday. He struck out two during the loss to San Diego.
Steele made his first start since straining his hamstring during his Opening Day outing. He showed no signs of rust but was clearly on a limit as he threw only 68 pitches. He gave up one extra-base hit but otherwise kept San Diego's bats quiet. Steele has given up one run through 9.1 innings in two starts this season. The 28-year-old should be able to pitch deeper in his next outing, which is lined up to be in Pittsburgh this weekend.

Parker Meadows DET CFTigers' Parker Meadows: Headed to Triple-A
26m agoThe Tigers informed Meadows after Monday's game against the Guardians that he'll be optioned to Triple-A Toledo, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Meadows has seen only three at-bats in May after going 6-for-60 over 25 games in April, and Detroit has finally seen enough. Ryan Vilade is expected to be recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Robert Suarez SD RPPadres' Robert Suarez: Converts five-out save
30m agoSuarez struck out three batters over 1.2 perfect frames and earned a save over the Cubs on Monday.
Suarez was called into a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the eighth inning and quickly steamrolled the Cubs in order to finish off the game. He matched his longest outing of the year while firing 14 of 20 pitches for strikes. Suarez has been nearly perfect this season; he's 1-0 with a 0.59 ERA while converting each of his 11 save chances. The 33-year-old is currently riding a 13-inning scoreless streak.

Luis Campusano SD CPadres' Luis Campusano: Drives in three runs
34m agoCampusano went 2-for-4 with a three-run double in Monday's win over the Cubs.
Campusano capped off a six-run sixth inning for the Padres with his bases-clearing double. It would end up being the deciding factor in the victory. While he has just five hits over his last seven games, three of them went for extra bases, resulting in eight RBI over that span. Campusano is now slashing .274/.311/.407 with 11 extra-base knocks through 119 plate appearances this season.

Yu Darvish SD SPPadres' Yu Darvish: Wins with scoreless outing
37m agoDarvish (2-1) yielded three hits and a walk over five shutout frames Monday, striking out five and earning a win over the Cubs.
Darvish scattered baserunners throughout his outing but ultimately kept the Cubs quiet for five innings. He was 0-1 with a 4.18 ERA before a brief stint on the injured list. Since returning, he's fired 10 shutout frames and dropped that number to 2.94 across seven starts. Darvish matched his season best with 15 swinging strikes, eight of which came via the slider. Darvish is in line for a tough home matchup with the Dodgers this weekend.

1h agoBrunson ended with 43 points (14-26 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 14-14 FT), six rebounds, six assists and one block over 43 minutes in Monday's 121-117 win over Indiana in Game 1 of the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Brunson once again did it all for New York in a winning effort, leading all players in Monday's Game 1 in scoring while finishing with a perfect mark from the free-throw line to go along with a half-dozen rebounds and assists in an all-around performance. Brunson has taken his game to the next level of late, posting four straight games with 40 or more points. New York's success rides on the performance of Brunson, and he will continue to be a focal point for the team for as long as the Knicks can push their playoff run.

1h agoDiVincenzo notched 25 points (10-17 FG, 5-9 3Pt), three rebounds, two blocks and one assist over 44 minutes in Monday's 121-117 win over Indiana in Game 1 of the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
DiVincenzo put on a show from deep in Monday's victory, leading all players in the game in threes made while ending as one of three Knicks with 20 or more points. DiVincenzo, who also recorded a team-high pair of blocks, posted his highest point total of the postseason and has tallied 20 or more points in two straight outings. DiVincenzo has found success from deep of late, connecting on five threes in back-to-back games.

Josh Hart NY SFKnicks' Josh Hart: Nears triple-double in Game 1 win
1h agoHart tallied 24 points (9-13 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 5-8 FT), 13 rebounds, eight assists, three steals and one block over 48 minutes in Monday's 121-117 win over Indiana in Game 1 of the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Hart did a little bit of everything for New York to boost the team to a Game 1 victory, leading all players in Monday's contest in rebounds and assists to go along with a team-high trio of steals and coming up two dimes shy of a triple-double. Hart has seen a heavy amount of playing time so far this postseason, resulting in tallying a double-double in four of his seven playoff contests. Hart, who posted his highest point total of the playoffs, has surpassed the 20-point mark on four occasions.

1h agoHaliburton posted six points (2-6 FG, 2-5 3Pt), eight assists, four steals and two rebounds over 36 minutes in Monday's 121-117 loss to New York in Game 1 of the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Haliburton had a quiet performance offensively in the first game of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, though he still impacted the game in other ways, including by leading the Pacers in assists and steals despite failing to reach double figures in scoring. Haliburton posted his lowest point total of the postseason thus far, failing to reach double digits for the second time in seven playoff contests. Haliburton has been dealing with back spasms, and that may have affected his performance Monday.

Myles Turner IND CPacers' Myles Turner: Leading scorer in Game 1 defeat
1h agoTurner tallied 23 points (8-16 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 5-6 FT), three assists, two rebounds, one block and one steal over 35 minutes in Monday's 121-117 loss to New York in Game 1 of the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Turner did all he could to help Indiana to a road victory in Game 1 against New York, leading the club in scoring to go along with a team-high-tying pair of threes while ending as the lone Pacer with 20 or more points in the losing effort. Turner bounced back well after a pair of low-scoring outings in the final two games of the first-round series, posting his fourth game of the postseason with at least 20 points. Indiana will hope for a similar performance from Turner offensively in Game 2, and he may need to improve his presence on the glass to help the Pacers own the battle on the boards.

T.J. McConnell IND PGPacers' T.J. McConnell: Shines off bench in Game 1 loss
1h agoMcConnell finished with 18 points (9-16 FG, 0-1 3Pt), three assists, three steals and one rebound over 22 minutes in Monday's 121-117 loss to New York in Game 1 of the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
McConnell provided a much-needed spark off the Pacers bench with the below-average offensive showing by Indiana's starting guards, leading all bench players in scoring while adding a trio of steals and assists in a balanced showing on the second unit. McConnell has been playing some of his best basketball of the postseason in his last two outings, posting at least 18 points and three assists in two straight contests.

Jeremy Swayman BOS GBruins' Jeremy Swayman: Stellar in Game 1 win
1m agoSwayman stopped 38 of 39 shots in Monday's 5-1 win over the Panthers in Game 1 of the second round.
A turnover led to the Panthers' lone goal in the second period, which was scored by Matthew Tkachuk. Swayman was otherwise stellar again, as he allowed a single goal for the fourth time in seven playoffs outings. His other three starts have seen him give up just two tallies each time. Swayman is 5-2 with a 1.42 GAA and a .955 save percentage this postseason, and he should be considered a near lock to start in Game 2 on Wednesday.

4h agoCarlo (personal) is in Monday's lineup for Game 1 against Florida, Amalie Benjamin of NHL.com reports.
Carlo tallied a goal and an assist with 16 hits and 16 blocked shots in the first round against Toronto. However, he failed to score a point in his final 16 games during the regular season. He'll skate in his usual top-four role Monday.

12h agoSwayman will guard the road goal Monday in Game 1 against Florida, per Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.
Swayman was excellent in the first round of the postseason against Toronto, stopping 172 of 181 shots en route to a 4-2 record. Florida ranks third in the playoffs with 4.00 goals per contest.

Heinen, who is considered day-to-day, will miss his third straight contest. He has one assist, five shots on goal and nine hits in five outings this postseason.

Head coach Jim Montgomery is "very hopeful" that Carlo will be able to join the team ahead of Monday's second-round opener. The 27-year-old blueliner was with his wife, Mayson, to welcome their baby boy, Crew, into the world Monday morning. Carlo has one goal, one assist, 11 shots on net, 16 blocked shots and 16 hits in seven outings this postseason. If Carlo is unavailable to play in Monday's contest, Derek Forbort could be in the lineup for the first time since March 2 after recovering from an undisclosed injury.

Sergei Bobrovsky FLA GPanthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: First off ahead of Game 1
13h agoBobrovsky was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, George Richards of Florida Hockey Now reports, indicating he will patrol the home crease in Game 1 against Boston on Monday.
Bobrovsky surrendered 14 goals on 135 shots against the Lightning en route to a 4-1 record in the first round of the playoffs. He went 0-2-2 against Boston during the 2023-24 regular season, allowing 13 goals on 101 shots. The Bruins rank ninth overall with 2.57 goals per contest this postseason. Boston also sits fourth in power-play percentage after scoring six times on 17 opportunities in the opening round versus Toronto.
