1h agoManning cleared waivers and reverted to the Panthers' injured reserve list Monday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
The severity of Manning's injury is not yet known. The offensive guard will need to reach an injury settlement with the team to play in 2024.

2h agoDorsett signed with the Broncos on Monday after being released on Friday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
The wide receiver spent 2023 with Denver's practice squad, played in two games and didn't catch any of his three targets. The 2015 first-round pick has just 21 catches over the past four seasons with four different teams. Now he'll get a chance to stick with Denver on a depth chart that includes 12 wide receivers.

The running back signed with New York's practice squad in December and was signed to a reserve/future contract in January. Patrick last appeared in an NFL game in 2021 with the 49ers.

2h agoPenisini was waived by the Saints on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
The defensive tackle played in 32 games with the Lions between the 2020 and '21 seasons but has not appeared in an NFL game since. Penisini was waived from Carolina's reserve/PUP list in August 2023.

4h agoThe Panthers signed Smith on Monday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Smith bounced back-and-forth between the Vikings' practice squad and active roster over the course of three-year NFL career, but he's now found a new home in Carolina. The 27-year-old defensive lineman has appeared in four games during his time in the league, recording 11 total tackles while playing 108 total snaps (86 defensive and 22 on special teams). He's expected to compete for a backup role on the Panthers' defense as the offseason advances.

Jared Goff DET QBLions' Jared Goff: Lands four-year, $212M extension
4h agoThe Lions signed Goff to a four-year, $212 million contract extension Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The deal contains $170 million guaranteed, and Goff is now the highest-paid player in Lions franchise history. The 2016 No. 1 overall pick of the Rams, Goff was acquired from Los Angeles in the Matthew Stafford haul prior to the 2021 season and has resurrected his career under Detroit OC Ben Johnson. In three seasons with Detroit, Goff has completed 66.5 percent of his passes, up from 63.4 percent with Los Angeles, and has thrown for 12,258 yards with a splendid 78:27 TD:INT mark. He's lowered his turnover rate with Detroit and just helped lead the team to the NFC Championship Game last season. Goff is still just 29 years old and is locked in with the Lions for at least the next few seasons.

Giants' Walker Martin: Recovering from hamstring strain
3m agoMartin is working his way back from a hamstring strain and has yet to make his season debut for the Giants' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports.
It's unclear when Martin suffered the injury, but Giants farm director Kyle Haines said that the 20-year-old won't be thrust into game action until he fully completes his rehab and return-to-play progression. The Giants are likely to let the No. 52 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft get his feet wet at shortstop when he begins his professional career, but the 6-foot-2, 188-pound Martin will most likely shift over to third base as he climbs the minor-league ladder.

White Sox's Grant Taylor: Makes pro debut
9m agoTaylor (elbow) struck out seven and allowed three earned runs on three hits and one walk over 3.1 innings in his season debut Friday for the White Sox's rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate.
A 2023 second-round draft pick out of LSU, Taylor didn't make his professional debut last summer while he completed his recovery from Tommy John surgery, which cost him his entire final season of college. Set to turn 22 years old later this month, Taylor likely won't stick around in rookie ball for long and will likely report to Single-A Kannapolis or High-A Winston-Salem once he gets stretched out a bit more.

Mets' Ryan Clifford: Elevated to Double-A
14m agoThe Mets promoted Clifford from High-A Brooklyn to Double-A Binghamton on Monday.
Clifford hit just .216 and posted unremarkable counting stats over his 31 games with Brooklyn (one home run, one stolen base, 13 runs and 10 RBI), but he earned the bump up to Double-A largely on the back of his discerning eye at the plate. He drew walks at a prolific 23.9 percent clip with Brooklyn, enabling him to maintain a .412 on-base percentage across 136 plate appearances. Racking up free passes has been a hallmark of Clifford's statistical profile at every stop of his professional career, but since he's limited defensively to first base and the corner outfield, he'll likely need to tap into more power at the upper levels of the minors to improve his long-term fantasy outlook by the time he hits the big leagues.

Mets' Brandon Sproat: Jumps to Double-A
21m agoThe Mets promoted Sproat from High-A Brooklyn to Double-A Binghamton on Monday.
The No. 56 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Sproat has moved quickly through the Mets' farm system less than a year into his professional career. Though he didn't make his pro debut last summer due to the heavy workload he logged in the spring during his final collegiate campaign at the University of Florida, Sproat was pushed to High-A to begin the 2024 season and passed the test with flying colors. Over his six outings (five starts) with Brooklyn, Sproat compiled a 1.07 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 33:16 K:BB in 25.1 innings.

Shane Baz TB SPRays' Shane Baz: Lacks control in second rehab start
29m agoBaz (elbow/oblique) worked 1.2 innings and struck out one while allowing three earned runs on one hit and five walks Friday in his second rehab start with Triple-A Durham.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Baz's control has been spotty in his first two rehab starts in his first game action since July 2022 following a prolonged recovery from Tommy John surgery and two minor setbacks with his oblique. After working three innings and spotting 22 of his 39 pitches for strikes in his start with Durham on May 4, Baz found the strike zone on just 29 of his 59 pitches Friday and also hit a batter in addition to issuing five free passes. The fact that Baz was able to increase his pitch count was a positive takeaway, but he'll still need to improve his efficiency as he continues his buildup process in the minors. Baz will presumably need at least two more rehab starts before he returns from the 15-day injured list and makes his 2024 debut with the Rays.

Giants' Wade Meckler: Out indefinitely with wrist sprain
45m agoMeckler has resided on Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list all season with a sprained wrist and is likely weeks away from a return to game action, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Meckler sustained the injury at some point during the Cactus League before the Giants optioned him to minor-league camp March 13. He hasn't been able to swing the bat much since being shut down, and because his absence has now hit the two-month mark, Meckler will presumably need to go through his own version of spring training all over again before being ready to take on an everyday role in the Sacramento outfield.

Doncic took a step in the right direction by participating in morning shootaround, and he's since been given the green light to suit up for Monday's matchup. The star point guard has been held in check by his standards through the first three games of the series, knocking down 42.1 percent of his tries from the field and 35.0 percent from downtown.

The Cavaliers, already playing without Jarrett Allen (ribs), also lost Donovan Mitchell (calf) for Game 4, so LeVert will get his first crack in the starting lineup during the postseason. Over the last two games against the Celtics, LeVert has averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 51.7 percent from the field. Across 10 starts during the regular season, LeVert averaged 16.2 points, 7.0 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 34.3 minutes.

3h agoAllen (ribs) has been ruled out for Monday's Game 4 against the Celtics, Serena Winters of Bally Sports Cleveland reports.
Allen will miss a seventh straight game due to a right rib contusion. Evan Mobley will continue to start at center, while Isaac Okoro slots in at power forward. Donovan Mitchell (calf) is also out, so Caris LeVert will join the first five for the first time during the postseason. Allen's next chance to suit up will come Wednesday in Boston.

3h agoMitchell (calf) has been ruled out for Monday's Game 4 against the Celtics, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Mitchell had been stellar over his last six postseason appearances, averaging 35.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.0 steals in 35.3 minutes. However, he suffered a strained left calf during Game 3 and will be sidelined for a critical matchup in Cleveland. With Mitchell out, Caris LeVert may slide into the starting lineup at shooting guard, while Isaac Okoro, Sam Merrill and Marcus Morris are also candidates for increased offensive roles.

4h agoHaliburton is questionable for Tuesday's Game 5 against the Knicks due to low back spasms, a sacral contusion and a right ankle sprain.
Despite all the injuries, Haliburton has been spectacular over the last three games, averaging 29.7 points, 7.0 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 33.7 minutes. Despite sporting a major limp following Sunday's Game 4 win, the All-Star is likely more probable than questionable heading into Game 5, but his official availability will likely be a game-time decision.

4h agoHartenstein (shoulder) isn't listed on New York's injury report for Tuesday's Game 5 against the Pacers.
As expected, Hartenstein will be good to go for Game 5 after suffering a minor shoulder injury during Sunday's Game 4 loss. In New York's two wins during the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Hartenstein has averaged 13.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists. However, in the two losses, the starting center totaled only 10 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.

Valeri Nichushkin COL RWAvalanche's Valeri Nichushkin: Back in assistance program
9m agoNichushkin was placed in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and will be suspended for six months.
Nichushkin was in the program during the regular season, missing 22 games as a result. Now, he's in Stage 3 of the program and will need to apply for reinstatement after a six-month suspension. He scored 28 goals and 53 points through 54 games this season. Nichushkin also racked up nine goals and 10 points through eight playoff games. With him out, Zach Parise could see a bump in playing time.

3h agoShesterkin will get the starting nod for Game 5 at home against the Hurricanes, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports.
Shesterkin was riding a seven-game winning streak to begin the playoffs before Carolina finally beat him in Game 4 on Saturday. He allowed four goals on 31 shots in the loss, the first time this postseason he's allowed more than three. He's registered an impressive .925 save percentage while facing 160 shots this series.

On top of his illness, Chytil is reportedly also dealing with some soreness that's unrelated to the head injury that cost him nearly the entire 2023-24 campaign. He logged one shot and one hit in 12:02 of ice time during the Game 3 win against Carolina, his first game since Nov. 2. He'll be considered question for Game 6 on Thursday, if necessary.

4h agoSoucy was suspended for one game by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday for cross-checking Edmonton's Connor McDavid in Sunday's Game 3.
Soucy received a two-minute penalty for cross-checking McDavid at the 20-minute mark of the third period in the Canucks' 4-3 win over the Oilers on Sunday. Noah Juulsen will probably replace Soucy in the lineup for Game 4 against Edmonton on Tuesday. The 29-year-old Soucy has four assists, zero shots on goal, nine blocked shots and 27 hits in nine contests this postseason.

7h agoOettinger will guard the road goal in Game 4 versus Colorado on Monday, per Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News.
Oettinger has won his last two outings, including a 28-save performance in Saturday's 4-1 victory over the Avalanche in Game 3. He has a 6-4 record with a 2.12 GAA and a .919 save percentage through 10 starts this postseason. If the Stars emerge victorious in Monday's contest, the team can take a commanding 3-1 series lead back to Dallas for Game 5 on Wednesday.

8h agoHakanpaa (lower body) won't play Monday in Game 4 versus the Avalanche, according to Ryan Boulding of NHL.com.
Hakanpaa sat out the final 13 games of the regular season and will miss his 11th straight playoff contest. It's still unclear when he will be available to return to the lineup. Hakanpaa registered two goals, 12 points, 56 shots on net, 123 blocked shots and 196 hits in 64 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign.
