Sam Darnold MIN QBVikings' Sam Darnold: Vikings won't rush to name starting QB
12h agoThe Vikings could begin the season with Darnold as the team's starting quarterback despite taking J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, ESPN reports. "We're not going to rush his development," said general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. "We're just going to do what's best for the Vikings in the short and long term."
Darnold signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Vikings as a short-term veteran starter or backup. It's hard to handicap when McCarthy may take over the starting job this soon after the draft, but it's notable the Vikings are trying to reduce expectations. Expect the quarterback battle for the Week 1 starting job to commence this summer. Still, odds are Darnold will only be the starter for a few weeks at most if McCarthy is healthy and making progress.

14h agoKnox signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent Saturday.
After four years at Arkansas, Knox transferred to South Carolina for his fifth-year senior season. He compiled a 37-312-2 receiving line for the Gamecocks. He switched positions from wide receiver to tight end in 2021. Knox joins a tight end room that includes T.J. Hockenson, Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt and Nick Muse in Minnesota.

"Tulu" stands at 5-foot-10 and 181 pounds and ran a 4.43 forty at the combine after leading Mississippi State in receiving with a 50-658-4 line as a senior. His main selling point for the Raiders could be his returner skills after he showed some electricity with the ball in his hands during college.

15h agoThe Raiders signed Bradley as an undrafted free agent Saturday.
Bradley has good size at 6-foot-3 and 213 pounds and spent the final two years of his college career at South Alabama following four years in Toledo's program. He threw for 5,996 yards at South Alabama, amassing 47 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. In Las Vegas, Bradley slides in at the bottom of the depth chart behind Gardner Minshew, Aidan O'Connell and Anthony Brown.

Edwards was just a one-year starter at Georgia and overall functioned as part of a backfield committee. He concluded his four-year collegiate career with a 391-2,082-24 rushing line. Edwards is strong in pass-protection and joins a Pittsburgh backfield that is led by Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren and newcomer Cordarrelle Patterson.

Watson spent five years at Old Dominion before transferring to Memphis for his super-senior season. He led the Tigers in rushing with 192-1,152-14 on the ground and added 53-480-3 as a receiver, earning All-AAC honors. Watson joins a crowded Denver backfield depth chart that includes Javonte Williams, Samaje Perine, Jaleel McLaughlin and fifth-round rookie Audric Estime.

5m agoLittle allowed five runs on three hits and a walk while retiring just two batters in Saturday's 17-0 loss to the Red Sox.
Chicago starter Ben Brown allowed three runs over just 3.2 innings, then gave way to Little, who struggled mightily. The lefty's era went from 2.16 to 7.00 in the process, and it may take Little some time to get that figure back into a more acceptable range. He's not a great fantasy target at the moment due to his middle-relief role.

Garcia will cede his spot in the White Sox bullpen and on the 40-man roster to right-hander Brad Keller, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Over his 14 relief appearances for the White Sox this season, Garcia picked up one win and one save, but his ratios (7.07 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB) left much to be desired.

15m agoThe White Sox optioned Cannon to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.
Cannon's first stint in the big leagues last three turns through the rotation, with the rookie right-hander going 0-1 with a 7.24 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB in 13.2 innings across those starts. The White Sox have a day off Thursday and could get by with a four-man rotation until Mike Clevinger is fully stretched out for starting duty and ready to make his season debut, which could come as soon as next Sunday.

19m agoSoler went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Saturday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Pirates.
Soler's 10th-inning blast got the Giants within a run again, but the comeback effort fell short. He went 0-for-12 with one walk and six strikeouts over the previous three games. Soler's power is at an acceptable level (five homers, .414 slugging percentage) through 28 games, but he's batting just .222 with a .736 OPS, well under his .250 average and .853 OPS from last season.

Embiid continues to be listed as questionable but hasn't missed a postseason game yet. He has averaged 37.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.4 steals-plus-blocks through the first three games of the opening-round series and is coming off a 50-point explosion during Philadelphia's Game 3 win on Thursday.

Robinson sprained his surgically repaired left ankle during Thursday's Game 3 loss, didn't practice Saturday and was listed as questionable for Game 4. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN said the big man was warming up with the intention of playing Sunday, but Robinson ultimately didn't get the green light. In his absence, Precious Achiuwa should be the primary backup behind Isaiah Hartenstein, and Jericho Sims may crack the postseason rotation for the first time.

Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Intends to play Sunday
2h agoRobinson (ankle), who's officially listed as questionable, is warming up with the intention of playing in Sunday's Game 4 against the 76ers, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Robinson sprained his surgically repaired left ankle during Thursday's Game 3 loss and didn't practice Saturday while sporting a walking boot. However, it seems those measures were merely precautionary, as the big man is expected to suit up in Game 4, barring a setback during warmups. After posting eight points, 12 rebounds and four blocks in 30 minutes during a Game 1 victory, Robinson was limited to 30 total minutes over the next two matchups and complied three points and 11 boards during those contests.

As expected, Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) have been downgraded from doubtful to out. Khris Middleton (ankle) remains probable. Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, Lillard had been playing through soreness in his Achilles over the last few weeks and aggravated the issue during the Bucks' Game 3 loss on Friday. Malik Beasley, Andre Jackson and AJ Green are all candidates for increased roles in Lillard's absence.

As expected, Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard (Achilles) have both been downgraded from doubtful to out. Khris Middleton (ankle) remains probable. Bobby Portis should continue to start for Antetokounmpo and will need to play an even larger role on offense due to Lillard missing his first game of the postseason. Antetokounmpo has yet to progress to team drills, but his next chance to suit up will come during Game 5 on Tuesday.

2h agoWagner ended with seven points (2-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-4 FT), four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal across 15 minutes during Saturday's 112-89 victory over Cleveland in Game 4 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Wagner has averaged 7.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 16.8 minutes through the first four games of the opening-round series against the Cavaliers. The Magic's rotation was basically cut to nine players Saturday, with Wagner, Cole Anthony, Markelle Fultz and Jonathan Isaac all playing at least 15 minutes off the bench.

While Dillon has been ruled out for Game 4, there's a chance he could return Tuesday when the Jets return home for Game 5. Still, it's a tough blow for Winnipeg -- the veteran blueliner had three assists through the first three games of the series. Logan Stanley is expected to work on the second pairing in Dillon's absence.

Iorio stayed out late with Washington's expected scratches after participating in the morning skate in a non-contact capacity. He will miss his third straight outing due to an injury he sustained in the team's playoff opener last Sunday. However, the Capitals will get some reinforcements on the blue line because Rasmus Sandin (upper body) and Nick Jensen (upper body) are set to return to the lineup.

Jensen has yet to suit up in the series after missing Washington's final two regular-season games with an upper-body injury. Jensen's return would provide an important boost to the Caps' defensive corps, with Trevor van Riemsdyk (upper body) ruled out. The 33-year-old Jensen had a goal, 14 points and 123 blocked shots in 78 games this year.

Sandin will be back in the lineup after missing the final five games of the regular season and the first three contests of the playoffs. He registered three goals, 23 points, 79 shots on net, 106 blocked shots and 75 hits in 68 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign. Sandin will replace Trevor van Riemsdyk (upper body) in Sunday's must-win matchup.

2h agoLindgren was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network reports, indicating he will patrol the home crease Sunday in Game 4 versus the Rangers.
Lindgren has lost three straight outings in the postseason, surrendering 11 goals on 81 shots for an .864 save percentage. The Capitals need a victory in Game 4 to avoid being swept in the first round by the Rangers.

Brandon Montour FLA DPanthers' Brandon Montour: Heating up in playoffs
4h agoMontour registered an assist and four blocked shots versus the Lightning in Game 4 on Saturday, but it wasn't enough, as the Panthers suffered a 6-3 loss.
After being held without a point in the first two games of the conference quarterfinals, Montour stacked a goal and two helpers between Game 3 and Game 4. The eighth-year defenseman has always had a high ceiling in terms of offensive potential, but there had been a fair number of detractors until Montour's eye-popping 73-point campaign surfaced in 2022-23. He had offseason shoulder surgery and missed the first 16 games of the recently completed regular season, leveling back down to a half-point-per game average. In this playoff series, Montour is averaging 23:26 of ice time with 2:27 on the man advantage. The Panthers will have another crack at eliminating the Lightning in Game 5 on Monday, this time on home ice.
