2h agoWheatley (knee) is participating in the Patriots' organized team activities, Greg A. Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal reports.
Wheatley went on New England's injured reserve in October of last season due to a knee injury. His participation at OTAs indicates his health is back up to par at this point. Barring any setbacks, he will continue competing for a depth offensive line role heading into the season.

4h agoEkuale (biceps) is participating in the Patriots' organized team activities, Steven Senne of the Idaho State Journal reports.
Ekuale's season ended in September of last year after the Patriots placed him on injured reserve with a torn biceps. His participation at OTAs indicates his health is back up to par. The veteran defensive tackle is projected to provide depth on New England's interior defensive line this season.

O'Neill played in only one of Minnesota's final four games last season with what was eventually disclosed as a small fracture in his left foot. He appears to be back to full health and is slated to work as the Vikings' starting right tackle for the 2024 campaign.

18h agoMiller is progressing in his return from an Achilles injury, Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union reports.
Miller was hurt in the Jaguars' final preseason contest last August and missed the entire campaign. The 2023 fourth-round pick will look to make his NFL debut in 2024 and could work his way up to prominent role among the team's linebacker corps.

18h agoBootle (knee) participated in offseason practice Wednesday, per a video shared by Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site.
Bootle landed on injured reserve with a knee injury last November and didn't return for the remainder of the campaign. He began the year on the Panthers' practice squad but had started two straight games prior to getting hurt. Now that he's back to being healthy, Bootle will compete for a depth role in Carolina's secondary for the coming campaign.

9m agoThe Padres recalled Gillaspie from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.
With Yu Darvish (groin) and Joe Musgrove (elbow) both headed for the injured list, Gillaspie and Randy Vasquez will come up from the minors to fill the openings in San Diego's pitching staff. Gillaspie has appeared in two games for the Padres this year, throwing 2.2 shutout innings, but he has posted a 5.17 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 15.2 frames in Triple-A. He will likely be limited to low-leverage situations while with the big-league club.

12m agoThe Padres placed Darvish on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left groin strain.
Darvish had to make an early exit from his start Wednesday against Miami due to hamstring problems, but the issue appears to instead be groin-related. His move to the IL is backdated to Thursday, allowing him to be eligible to return June 14. He will be joined by fellow starter Joe Musgrove (elbow) on the injured list while Randy Vasquez and Logan Gillaspie come up from Triple-A El Paso to take their places.

However, the 25-year-old guard converted 39.1 percent of his 4.1 three-point attempts per game during the regular season and will head into the 2024-25 campaign under the last year of his two-year, $9 million contract.

Anderson's 33 minutes played in Game 5 were his highest of the series, largely due to his role in guarding Luka Doncic. Anderson will end the Western Conference Finals averaging 7.4 points, 3.4 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 22.4 minutes across the five contests. The 30-year-old forward will head into the offseason as an unrestricted free agent. Anderson's future in Minnesota is uncertain as he went from averaging 28.4 minutes across 69 appearances, including 46 starts in 2022-23, to 22.6 minutes across 79 appearances, just 10 of which were starts, in 2023-24.

Gobert averaged 11.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 34.0 minutes across the five games against Dallas.

Despite putting up his best game of the series Thursday, Towns' efforts weren't enough to avoid defeat. The 28-year-old big man tied Anthony Edwards for a team-high 28 points and led Minnesota in rebounding. Towns will finish the Western Conference Finals averaging 19.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 33.2 minutes. He also struggled mightily with his efficiency, shooting just 37.9 percent from the field and 24.2 percent from three across the five games.

Edwards recorded his second-highest scoring output of the Western Conference Finals in Game 5 but wasn't able to avoid elimination. After struggling with his efficiency to begin the series, the star guard managed to post 43.0/40.6/75.0 shooting splits over the five games. Against Dallas, Edwards averaged 24.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 1.0 steals in 41.4 minutes.

Lively returned to action Thursday after missing Game 4 due to a neck injury. The rookie big man returned to his role of coming off the bench but splitting minutes at the center position with Daniel Gafford as a platoon. Lively averaged 9.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks in 22.0 minutes across his four appearances in the Western Conference Finals.

If the Panthers emerge victorious Saturday, the team will compete in the Stanley Cup Finals for a second straight year.

According to a source, Wheeler is banged up, leaving his status unclear for Saturday's must-win contest. He has suited up in only one game since Feb. 15 because of a leg injury. Wheeler logged just 9:18 of ice time in Game 4 versus the Panthers on Tuesday before sitting out Thursday's Game 5. Anton Blidh has been filling in for Wheeler during Saturday's practice, but the 29-year-old Blidh probably won't be in the lineup even if Wheeler is unavailable.

He'll likely continue to see middle-six minutes as the Stars look to keep their season alive in Game 6 on Sunday.
