Khalil Shakir BUF WR
Bills' Khalil Shakir: New teammate in WR room
1h agoShakir has a new teammate in the receiving room after the Bills took Keon Coleman out of Florida State with the first pick of the second round Friday.
This may not be a terrible thing for Shakir's 2024 outlook, as it was doubtful the Bills were going to enter the season with such a thin wideout crew, and the attention of a big target like Coleman might allow Shakir to see better looks. The latter is coming off a 39-611-2 season in 17 regular-season games, but with Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis off to new locales, Shakir has room to grow his production in his third NFL season. For now, he and Coleman project as starters, while Curtis Samuel is more of a hybrid No. 3.

Zaven Collins ARI LB
Cardinals' Zaven Collins: Option not picked up
7h agoThe Cardinals have opted not to pick up Collins' fifth-year option, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.
This move is somewhat of a surprise, as Collins' started all 33 games he has played the previous two seasons, and he projects to continue starting at defensive end in 2024. He did see his production decrease this past year in the tackle department, dropping from 100 (63) in 2022 to 41 (27 solo) in 2023. The 24-year-old is now heading into a contract year and will look to prove his value accordingly.
-
Boston Scott PHI RB
Rams' Boston Scott: Fresh start in L.A.
8h agoScott agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Rams on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Scott spent his first six seasons in Philadelphia, but he will now get a fresh start in Los Angeles. While he was never a major part of the Eagles' offense during his tenure, he saw his role as a third-down back shrink during the 2023 campaign. The 29-year-old will presumably be behind Kyren Williams and rookie Blake Corum on the Rams' depth chart, and Scott will compete with Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans for the No. 3 role.
-
Kaden Davis ARI WR
Kaden Davis: Cut by Arizona
9h agoThe Cardinals waived Davis on Tuesday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Davis spent most of the 2023 season on Arizona's practice squad. The Cardinals drafted a pair of wideouts in last week's NFL Draft, so Davis will look for work elsewhere.

Jarrett Stidham DEN QB
Broncos' Jarrett Stidham: Denver adds QB depth
9h agoFollowing the 2024 NFL Draft, Stidham is joined in the Broncos' QB room by newcomer Zach Wilson, along with No. 12 overall pick Bo Nix, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
After the Broncos released Russell Wilson last month, it was inevitable that they would add QB depth to join Stidham, who started Denver's final two contests last season. While Nix is no doubt being groomed as the team's future starter, it remains to be seen if he'll step into that role immediately. Until then, Stidham and Wilson will presumably both have an opportunity to compete for the No. 1 role, but neither veteran signal-caller profiles as a high-value fantasy option in either re-draft or dynasty formats.
-
James Conner ARI RB
Cardinals' James Conner: Leader of improved backfield
9h agoRookie third-round pick Trey Benson is unlikely to take Conner's starting job but may eventually force a timeshare in the Cardinals' backfield, according to KC Joyner of The Athletic.
Conner has missed multiple games in each of his seven NFL seasons, though never more than six in any one year, so any competition for touches could sort itself out. His 2023 included career highs for rushing yards (1,040) and yards per carry (5.0), with the downside being his fewest targets (33) and catches (27, 2.1 per game) since he was a barely-used rookie with Pittsburgh in 2017. The lack of receiving volume was partially a product of Emari Demercado getting playing time in passing situations, and it's worth noting that the Cardinals have two other backs in Michael Carter, DeeJay Dallas with track records as passing-down specialists. That said, Conner still figures to be the starter and lead runner, with Benson being the main threat to poach carries and TDs even if other guys are in the mix on passing downs.

Shane Baz TB SP
Rays' Shane Baz: Headed to Durham for rehab
2m agoBaz (elbow) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Durham either Saturday or Sunday, MLB.com reports.
Baz has thrown in two extended spring training games, the most recent of which came Monday. The next step in his recovery will come at Triple-A Durham to build up his pitch count. There is no specific timeline for Baz to return, but it's possible that he'll be back in late May.

Estevan Florial CLE DH
Guardians' Estevan Florial: Lifts game-tying homer
8m agoFlorial went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's 10-9 extra-inning loss to the Astros.
Florial's sixth-inning blast tied the game at 8-8. It was his third homer of the year and his first to come against a team other than the Yankees. Florial's playing time has been slipping recently, mostly as a product of David Fry working his way into the lineup more frequently. The right-handed Fry, a natural catcher, will occasionally serve as the designated hitter or push one of the Guardians' regulars into that spot at Florial's expense. For the year, Florial is batting just .229 with an .827 OPS through 56 plate appearances.

Cristian Javier HOU SP
Astros' Cristian Javier: Could be back for weekend series
11m agoJavier (neck) could be activated from the injured list and start during Houston's weekend series against Seattle, MLB.com reports.
Javier threw a bullpen session Sunday and is expected to throw again either Wednesday or Thursday. That will likely determine his status for the weekend, though it appears that Javier will be able to avoid a rehab stint even if his absence extends later into May.

Walker Buehler LAD SP
Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Goes five innings in rehab start
12m agoBuehler (elbow) tossed five innings in a minor-league rehab appearance with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, allowing one run on seven hits and no walks while striking out five batters.
Buehler tossed 75 pitches in the outing, 11 fewer than he threw in his previous appearance. However, he completed five frames for the first time since beginning his rehab stint March 31. The right-hander's fastball topped out at 94.6 mph, so he's not quite back to the velocity he displayed prior to his Tommy John surgery in August of 2022. Nonetheless, Tuesday's start -- his sixth in the minors this season -- may have been Buehler's final step before rejoining the big-league rotation, as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts suggested prior to the outing that the hurler could make his next appearance with the big club, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

Andres Gimenez CLE 2B
Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Pops first homer Tuesday
13m agoGimenez went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 10-9 extra-inning loss to the Astros.
Gimenez started the Guardians' comeback with a two-run blast in the sixth inning. The second baseman has logged three straight multi-hit efforts following a recent 0-for-11 skid. For the season, he's slashing .280/.347/.374 with one homer, 17 RBI, 17 runs scored, four stolen bases, five doubles and a triple over 122 plate appearances. He continues to see a starting role and frequently bats second in the lineup against right-handers.
-
Alex Bregman HOU 3B
Astros' Alex Bregman: Finally goes yard
15m agoBregman went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run Tuesday against the Guardians.
Bregman has been off to a slow start this season but has improved of late, as he's collected six hits in his last 23 at-bats. He also slugged his first home run of the season Tuesday. While Bregman has only a .078 ISO in 113 plate appearances this season, he's striking out at just a 12.4 percent clip, meaning his .216 average should continue to rise.

Andre Jackson Jr. MIL SF
Bucks' Andre Jackson: Fails to score in seven minutes
1h agoJackson chipped in zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt) and one assist across seven minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 win over the Pacers in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Jackson played limited minutes off the bench as the Bucks took care of business in front of a vocal home crowd. Strictly used as a depth piece, Jackson is not someone we should expect to see on the court for any significant amount of time moving forward.
-
Bobby Portis MIL PF
Bucks' Bobby Portis: Dominates in Game 5 victory
1h agoPortis racked up 29 points (14-24 FG, 1-3 3Pt), 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal over 39 minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 victory over the Pacers in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Portis atoned for his ejection in Game 4, leading the Bucks to an emphatic victory. He led all scorers with 29 points, having his way on the interior against a Pacers team that looked totally out-enthused. With Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) still on the sideline, Portis has been the primary beneficiary. Milwaukee will need for him to replicate this performance should they hope to force a Game 7.
-
Patrick Beverley MIL PG
Bucks' Patrick Beverley: Double-doubles in victory
1h agoBeverley accumulated 13 points (4-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-5 FT), four rebounds, 12 assists, one block and two steals in 36 minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 win over Indiana in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Beverley turned back the clock in the victory, racking up his first double-double of the season. With Damian Lillard (Achilles) sidelined, Beverley has stepped into a much larger role than anticipated. If the Bucks are to force a Game 7, he will need to once again be at the height of his powers.
-
T.J. McConnell IND PG
Pacers' T.J. McConnell: Quiet in Game 5 loss
1h agoMcConnell logged six points (3-10 FG, 0-2 3Pt), three rebounds and three assists in 16 minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 loss to the Bucks in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
McConnell failed to have a significant impact in the loss, continuing his underwhelming series. The Pacers were never really in this one, falling behind early and giving the Bucks some much-needed momentum. Game 6 is in Indiana on Thursday, providing the Pacers with another opportunity to advance to the second round.
-
Jarace Walker IND PF
Pacers' Jarace Walker: Rare appearance Tuesday
2h agoWalker notched one assist over five minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 loss to Milwaukee in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Walker played a handful of minutes as the Pacers were blown out by the Bucks in Game 5 of their playoff series. Despite flashes throughout the season, Walker has basically been an afterthought when it comes to meaningful minutes. The two teams will line up again Thursday, as the Pacers try to wrap things up on their home court.
-
Aaron Nesmith IND SF
Pacers' Aaron Nesmith: Passive performance in loss
2h agoNesmith registered seven points (3-9 FG, 1-5 3Pt), two rebounds, one assist, three blocks and one steal across 27 minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 loss to the Bucks in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Nesmith salvaged a rough shooting night with modest across-the-board production. Despite playing a significant role, he has been unable to rediscover his form from earlier in the season. While the loss was far from ideal, the Pacers will now head home for Game 6, where they will attempt to wrap up the series.
-
Quinn Hughes VAN D
Canucks' Quinn Hughes: Bags apple in loss
31m agoHughes posted an assist and three shots on goal in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Predators in Game 5.
Hughes is up to five assists, eight shots on net and six blocked shots over five playoff contests. He set up Nikita Zadorov for the opening goal in the third period, though the Canucks couldn't hold that narrow lead. Hughes' play hasn't been as consistent in the playoffs, but he's still seeing a massive workload on the top pairing.
-
Nikita Zadorov VAN D
Canucks' Nikita Zadorov: Tallies again in Game 5
33m agoZadorov scored a goal, added two PIM and logged four hits in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Predators in Game 5.
For the second time in five playoff games, Zadorov had the Canucks' lone goal in a loss. The defenseman has three points, eight shots on net, 22 hits and a plus-1 rating so far in the postseason. He remains on the third pairing on paper, but he's exceeded 20 minutes of ice time in each of the last three games, as it appears he's earned extra responsibility from head coach Rick Tocchet.
-
Arturs Silovs VAN G
Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Can't close out series
36m agoSilovs stopped 20 of 22 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Predators in Game 5.
Silovs gave up goals to Roman Josi and Alexandre Carrier in the third period of a low-scoring loss. With five goals allowed on 52 shots, Silovs has been solid in his two playoff appearances. The 23-year-old may still end up ceding the crease back to Casey DeSmith, who served as backup Tuesday after missing Sunday's Game 4 with a lower-body injury. The Canucks will get their second chance to advance in Friday's Game 6 in Nashville.
-
Tyson Barrie NSH D
Predators' Tyson Barrie: Enters lineup, earns assist
38m agoBarrie posted a power-play assist in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Canucks in Game 5.
Barrie had been scratched for 13 straight games before entering the lineup Tuesday for Luke Schenn (illness). It worked out fine, as Barrie helped out on Roman Josi's game-tying goal in the third period. Barrie had just 15 points in 41 regular-season outings this season, and he'll likely be back in the press box once Schenn is healthy enough to return to the lineup.
-
Gustav Nyquist NSH C
Predators' Gustav Nyquist: Earns helper in Game 5 win
1h agoNyquist produced an assist and two shots on goal in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Canucks in Game 5.
Nyquist set up Alexandre Carrier for the game-winning goal in the third period. The 34-year-old Nyquist has a goal, three assists, five shots on net and five hits over five playoff appearances. The winger should continue to fill a playmaking role on the Predators' top line as they return home for another elimination game Friday.
-
Filip Forsberg NSH LW
Predators' Filip Forsberg: Two helpers in win
1h agoForsberg provided a pair of assists, two shots on goal and four hits in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Canucks in Game 5.
Forsberg helped out on third-period tallies by Roman Josi and Alexandre Carrier to keep the Predators' season alive for another game. Through five playoff outings, Forsberg has been solid with two goals, four assists, 14 shots on net and 17 hits. The 29-year-old winger will continue to play a leading role on offense, which will also see him earn significant power-play minutes.
