3h agoPaye had the fifth-year option on his contract exercised Thursday, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Paye had a successful third NFL season in 2023, recording career highs across the board, with 52 combined tackles, including 8.5 sacks. He also forced and recovered two fumbles. The Michigan product should now remain an integral part of the Colts' pass rush for the next two seasons.

Eric Stokes GB CBPackers' Eric Stokes: 2025 option denied
3h agoStokes (hamstring) will not have his fifth-year option exercised by the Packers, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Stokes had a successful rookie campaign after Green Bay selected him in the first round of the 2021 Draft, but he's had trouble staying on the field since. The Georgia product appeared in just three games in 2023, while suiting up nine times in 2022. If he can remain healthy this season though, he should be able to make an impact in Green Bay's secondary and is expected to start opposite Jaire Alexander at corner.

3h agoFarley (back) will not have his fifth-year option exercised by the Titans, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Farley has struggled to stay on the field, missing all of his 2023 campaign due to a back injury, so the news doesn't really come as a surprise. He's also suited up just 12 times between his first and second seasons, making two starts and recording 14 combined tackles.

3h agoOnwenu is slated to be the Patriots' starting right tackle in 2024, Mark Daniels of The Providence Journal reports.
Owenwu has bounced around New England's offensive line playing guard and tackle for the last two seasons, but that is no longer the plan for the 26-year-old. The 2020 sixth-rounder recently signed a three-year, $57 million contract extension with the team, whose new coaching staff views the Michigan product as exclusively a tackle.

3h agoThe Steelers declined their 2025 option on Harris' contract, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
This comes as somewhat of a surprise after Harris has posted three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons since being selected 24th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Most impressively, Harris has never missed a game at a position that sees so many injuries. He's been a model of toughness and durability, even if the stats haven't particularly jumped off the page with a career 3.9 yards-per-carry average. Harris, however, did rush for a career-best eight touchdowns last season, averaging a three year-best 4.1 yards per carry. Harris is now tentatively schedule to hit free agency next March, though Adam Schefter of ESPN notes that the Steelers aren't ruling out reaching a deal with the 26-year-old running back before then.

6h agoSmith-Schuster's role with Patriots is unclear after the team selected a pair of wideouts in the 2024 NFL Draft, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.
Over the course of 11 regular-season games in his first year with the Patriots, Smith-Schuster recorded a 29-260-1 line on 47 targets in 2023. The veteran wideout is under contract with the team through 2025, and he's presumably past the ankle issue that landed him on IR in December. Even so, New England's additions of free agent K.J. Osborn and a pair of 2024 draftees (second-rounder Ja'Lynn Polk and fourth-rounder Javon Baker) to a wide receiver mix that also includes returnees Kendrick Bourne (knee) and Demario Douglas clouds Smith-Schuster's depth chart standing ahead of training camp. With that in mind, both Callahan and Chad Graff of The Athletic suggest that the 27-year-old pass catcher could end up moving on as the offseason progresses.

30m agoManager Brandon Hyde said Wells (elbow) played catch Wednesday and will be sent in for additional testing, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Hyde didn't specify whether Wells' upcoming tests were part of a pre-planned arrangement, or if the tests were ordered up because he didn't respond as well to playing catch as expected. Either way, Wells' status will be worth tracking in the days to come as he builds his way back up from right elbow inflammation. Wells is eligible to return from the 15-day injured list Friday, but his return shouldn't be viewed as imminent, considering that he hasn't resumed throwing off a mound since being deactivated.

38m agoBrown did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Mets, allowing two runs on three hits and five walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.
Brown got off to a solid start, holding the Mets without a hit through four innings. However, he'd allow the first two batters to reach safely in the fifth before New York scored a pair of two-out runs, forcing the Cubs to turn to the bullpen. While it didn't finish the way he'd have hoped, it was a step in the right direction for Brown after he allowed three runs in just 3.2 innings against the Red Sox in his first start. However, with both Kyle Hendricks (back) and Justin Steele (hamstring) heading out on rehab assignments, the 24-year-old Brown could be headed back to the bullpen.

Ryne Nelson ARI SPDiamondbacks' Ryne Nelson: In line to return Sunday
41m agoDiamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Nelson (elbow) will "most likely" return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game versus the Padres at Chase Field, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.
On the shelf since April 19 with a bruised right elbow, Nelson has bounced back well enough since he resumed throwing to avoid a minor-league rehab assignment. Nelson will presumably throw another bullpen session Friday, and if all goes well, he'll take the hill Sunday with few restrictions, if any. Through his first four starts for Arizona before landing on the IL, Nelson went 1-2 with a 4.60 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 13:5 K:BB in 15.2 innings.

Jordan Hicks SF SPGiants' Jordan Hicks: Cleared to start Friday
1h agoHicks (side) is listed as the Giants' probable starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Phillies in Philadelphia.
Hicks contended with side tightness during his most recent outing against the Pirates last Saturday, when he struck out a season-high nine over six innings while allowing one earned run on five hits and no walks. The injury apparently didn't hinder him during his between-starts bullpen session, so he's on track to take the hill for the seventh time this season Friday. After pitching exclusively in relief between stops with St. Louis and Toronto in 2023, Hicks has performed even better than the Giants could have imagined after signing him to a four-year, $44 million deal this winter with the plan of converting him to a full-time starting role. Through his first six turns through the rotation, Hicks has delivered two wins to go with a 1.59 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 27:10 K:BB in 34 innings.

1h agoHouser did not factor into the decision against the Cubs on Thursday, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out two.
Houser held the Cubs to one run through his first four innings before giving up a three-run homer to Christopher Morel in the fifth. While the Mets would rally for a win in extra innings, saving Houser from a third straight loss, it was another subpar outing from the 31-year-old right-hander. Houser's yet to record an out in the sixth inning this year while posting an ugly 8.16 ERA with a 1.85 WHIP and 6.28 BB/9 -- well up from his career average of 3.68. With Christian Scott, the Mets' top pitching prospect, poised to join the rotation this weekend and Tylor Megill (shoulder) working his way back from injury, Houser's starting job could soon be in jeopardy.

He'll be making his second straight turn through the rotation after Jordan Wicks (forearm) recently joined Kyle Hendricks (back) and Justin Steele (hamstring) on the 15-day injured list. In his first start of the season this past Sunday in Boston, Wesneski gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out three over four innings.

Mann hasn't missed a game since March 20, and he's averaged 8.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in 30.0 minutes per game over the Clippers' first five playoff matchups this year. However, it's unclear whether he'll be able to suit up due to his lower leg issue.

Harris was already deemed a game-time decision for Game 6, so his questionable injury label isn't surprising. If the 29-year-old guard is ruled out, Caleb Houstan, Markelle Fultz, Cole Anthony and Anthony Black are all candidates to receive increased playing time.

Leonard continues to deal with a knee injury and will be unavailable for a third consecutive game Friday. If the Clippers win Friday's matchup and force a Game 7, it's unclear whether Leonard would be available for that win-or-go-home matchup.

Beverley continues to deal with an oblique injury, but he'll be able to suit up once again Thursday. He tallied 13 points, 12 assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block in 36 minutes during Tuesday's Game 5, but he'll have additional help in the backcourt Thursday since Damian Lillard (Achilles) has been cleared to return.

Knight has spent the entire 2023-24 campaign in the minors with the Checkers, logging action in 45 regular-season contests in which he posted a 25-14-5 record and .905 save percentage. Even with his promotion, Knight shouldn't be expected to get into any games, primarily serving as an emergency option behind Sergei Bobrovsky and Anthony Stolarz.

Johnston has been fantastic in the postseason, racking up three goals and three assists, including two power-play points, in five playoff contests. The 20-year-old center avoided the sophomore slump during the regular season, setting new personal bests in goals (32), assists (33) and shots (216).

Nugent-Hopkins has managed just two shots over his last four games, failing to find the back of the net along the way, but has chipped in five helpers over that stretch. In fact, looking back to the regular season, the veteran center has scored only one goal in his previous 10 appearances.

5h agoRoy notched a pair of helpers in a 4-3 defeat to Edmonton in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Roy was able to bring a six-game pointless streak to a close with his two helpers but it wasn't enough to stave off elimination for Los Angeles. Unless the Kings can come to an agreement soon, the blueliner is set to be an unrestricted free agent July 1. Roy should have plenty of offers if he goes to the open market after reaching the 20-point mark for the third consecutive campaign.

5h agoGavriokov picked up an assist in a 4-3 loss to Edmonton in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Gavrikov ended the 2023-24 campaign stuck in a 17-game goal drought during which he put just 19 shots on net. During that stretch, the Russia blueliner did chip in five assists, including two in postseason action. Despite the slow end to the year, Gavrikov still managed to get back over the 20-point threshold after missing that mark last season.

Andreas Englund LA DKings' Andreas Englund: Delivers helpers in loss
5h agoEnglund recorded an assist in Game 5's 4-3 defeat to Edmonton on Wednesday.
Englund registered his first points since March 15 versus the Blackhawks, a stretch of 20 games without writing his name on the scoresheet. In 82 games this year, the 28-year-old blueliner managed one goal and nine helpers, reaching the 10-point threshold for the first time in his NHL career. Fantasy players probably shouldn't;t be expecting much more out of Englund heading into the 2024-25 campaign.
