Jase McClellan ATL RBFalcons' Jase McClellan: Still dealing with foot issue
2h agoCoach Raheem Morris said Tuesday McClellan (foot) will sit out practice due to injury, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
Morris said McClellan and Bijan Robinson (ankle), who is also tending to an injury, are both expected to be available for mandatory minicamp, as D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. It appears that the rookie sixth-round pick is still nursing the foot injury that kept him from working out at either the NFL Combine or Alabama's Pro Day, but the Falcons appear to expect him to be ready for practice sooner rather than later. McClellan will need all the reps he can get for any chance of carving out a notable role behind both Robinson and Tyler Allgeier.

2h agoClaypool will have more competition to land a roster spot after the Bills signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year deal Tuesday.
The Bills seem to be taking an approach of signing as many journeymen that have previously shown upside as they can this offseason, with a plan of seeing who can stick to join a room with highly touted rookie Keon Coleman and third-year man Khalil Shakir. For now, it looks like MVS, Claypool, Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins (among others) will duke it out for positioning and even a roster spot after holding a firmer grasp on jobs earlier in their careers.

Bijan Robinson ATL RBFalcons' Bijan Robinson: Tending to ankle injury
2h agoCoach Raheem Morris said Robinson will not participate in Tuesday's OTA practice due to an ankle injury, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Morris said that Robinson is expected to be on the field for Atlanta's mandatory minicamp, as is rookie Jase McClellan (foot), who is also currently sidelined. The insinuation that Robinson's injury is only a minor issue is a relief, but the situation will still warrant monitoring until such time as the star running back is officially back on the field. Robinson could be primed for a Year 2 breakout with the arrival of Kirk Cousins (Achilles) promising an improved Falcons offense, but for the rest of OTAs, Tyler Allgeier could get a chance to handle the top backfield reps.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling KC WRBills' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Gets one-year deal in Buffalo
3h agoThe Bills are slated to sign Valdes-Scantling to a one-year contract worth up to $4.5 million Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Valdes-Scantling was released by the Chiefs back in February, and he now lands with another AFC powerhouse. Buffalo's revamped wide receiver corps, which lost Stefon Diggs via trade and Gabe Davis to free agency, could use a deep threat to complement Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel and rookie second-round pick Keon Coleman. Working as the No. 4 man on the depth chart could be an ideal situation for Valdes-Scantling to contribute, though if utilized only as a situation downfield target, he's more likely to slightly raise Josh Allen's ceiling than carry standalone value. Across 16 regular-season games last year, the 29-year-old compiled a career-low 21-315-1 receiving line.

The severity of Manning's injury is not yet known. The offensive guard will need to reach an injury settlement with the team to potentially play in 2024.

Adael Amador COL SSRockies' Adael Amador: Lengthy power outage
21m agoAmador is slashing .138/.312/.149 with zero home runs, 12 steals and more walks (19) than strikeouts (17) in 25 games for Double-A Hartford.
Coming into the year, Amador was seen as one of the best pure hitters in the minors, so it's a bit jarring to see his batting average sitting at .138 through the first five weeks of the season. Perhaps more concerning though, is Amador's complete lack of power, as his .171 BABIP and overly patient approach largely explain his low batting average. Amador's 20.6 percent hard-hit rate and 63.2 percent groundball rate are very troubling marks. He is playing half his games in Hartford, which is essentially a neutral hitting environment, after getting to play half his High-A games at the very hitter-friendly park in Spokane, which helped him slug .514 in 54 High-A games last year.

1h agoMarte has been able to play in exhibition games in Arizona during his suspension, per Reds Daily.
The Reds Daily X account posted a video of Marte grounding out in an at-bat against Dodgers minor leaguers at a spring training complex in Arizona. Marte won't be playing in any official minor-league games with tracked statistics, but he has still been able to work on maintaining his timing at the dish. He is eligible to return from his suspension June 19, which is also around the time Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) is expected to return from the injured list.

Cade Horton CHC SPCubs' Cade Horton: Velocity slightly down from 2023
1h agoHorton averaged 93.4 mph (touched 94.9 mph) with his fastball in his first start for Triple-A Iowa on May 4 and averaged 93.9 mph (touched 95.5 mph) in his second start May 10 after sitting at 95-97 mph with his fastball and regularly touching 98 mph in 2023.
This doesn't necessarily mean Horton is dealing with anything physically, but it's worth noting that he's not working with the same caliber stuff as was advertised during the offseason. Horton had a 1.10 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and an 18:2 K:BB in 16.1 innings across four starts in a return assignment to Double-A Tennessee before getting promoted to Triple-A at the end of April. He has given up eight earned runs on seven hits, eight walks and two home runs while striking out 11 in seven innings through his first two starts at the highest level of the minors. Since Triple-A pitch velocities are public, it's worth keeping tabs on Horton's pitch velocities over his next few outings to see if things keep trending up. This is also Horton's first experience with automated balls and strikes system at Triple-A, so perhaps that's partially to blame for his elevated walk rate.

1h agoHarper was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup versus the Mets due to a migraine, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Worth noting is that Harper was inadvertently struck in the helmet by a Tomas Nido throw back to the pitcher in Monday's game, although he remained in that contest and it's not clear whether this is related to that. Consider him day-to-day for now. The Phillies will shift Alec Bohm over to first base to cover for Harper, while Whit Merrifield will enter the lineup at third base.

Brown rapped out a single for the third time in the last four games, while the steal was his second of the season. The 31-year-old's power drought is increasingly concerning, however, considering he has just six extra-base hits in 113 plate appearances after averaging one every 10.2 trips to the batter's box over the previous three seasons.

1h agoMerrill went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's loss to Colorado.
Merrill was the only Padre with multiple hits in the contest, and his seventh-inning solo shot brought the team to within one run, though it turned out to be the final tally of the game. The rookie has notched consecutive multi-hit performances and has multiple hits in four of his past eight contests overall, so he could be back on the rise following an eight-game stretch from late April to early May during which he went 1-for-23 at the plate. Merrill still has a strong .291/.342/.403 slash line along with three homers, 17 RBI, 18 runs and six stolen bases on the season.

Conley is a late addition to Minnesota's injury report. The veteran point guard has averaged 11.9 points, 6.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 31.2 minutes during the postseason, so his potential absence would be a big blow in a critical road matchup. If Conley is downgraded to out, Monte Morris, Jordan McLaughlin and Nickeil Alexander-Walker would be candidates for increased playing time.

3h agoIrving posted nine points (4-11 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), one rebound and nine assists in 41 minutes during Monday's 100-96 loss to the Thunder in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
The Mavericks have welcomed the emergence of P.J. Washington in the series against the Thunder, as Kyrie Irving has struggled badly so far. He's failed to score in double digits in two of four games versus OKC and is shooting a mere 35.7 percent from three-point range. Irving needs to take on a bigger role on offense if the Mavericks want to move to the Western Conference Finals, especially considering how banged up Luka Doncic is.

3h agoDoncic provided 18 points (6-20 FG, 2-9 3Pt, 4-6 FT), 12 rebounds, 10 assists, one block and two steals over 42 minutes during Monday's 100-96 loss to Oklahoma City in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
On the surface, Doncic's final stat line looks good, as he posted his second triple-double of the postseason and made his presence felt on the defensive end. However, the star guard is battling with several injuries, and he looked a step slow in some sequences and was extremely inefficient with his shot. Doncic is averaging 22.0 points, 10.8 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game in the series against the Thunder, and the decrease in the scoring column is directly tied to the fact he's shooting a mere 39 percent from the floor. He'll aim to bounce back in Game 5 on Wednesday.

3h agoWashington accumulated 21 points (7-19 FG, 5-11 3Pt, 2-4 FT), 12 rebounds and one block over 41 minutes during Monday's 100-96 loss to the Thunder in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
The Mavericks failed to protect their home court and had to settle for a tough loss in Game 4, but one of the few positives in Monday's loss was that Washington continues to perform well even when he commands more attention from the opposing defenses. Washington has been Dallas' second-best player in this series, reaching the 20-point mark in three straight appearances and recording two double-doubles. Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday in Oklahoma City.

Chet Holmgren OKC CThunder's Chet Holmgren: Nears double-double with four swats
3h agoHolmgren ended Monday's 100-96 win over Dallas in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals with 18 points (6-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 5-6 FT), nine rebounds, four blocks and one steal over 40 minutes.
Holmgren stepped his game up on a night where Jalen Williams struggled with his shot, and the star rookie made his presence felt on both ends of the court, showing efficiency in his touch near the rim and being his usual disruptive self on the defensive end. Holmgren is averaging 15.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.3 blocks per game in the series against Dallas. Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday in OKC.

3h agoWilliams totaled 14 points (5-19 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds, six assists and four steals across 41 minutes during Monday's 100-96 win over the Mavericks in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Williams didn't have his best shooting performance, and his numbers regressed a bit compared to what he'd been doing in the previous contests, but his role as the Thunder's second-best offensive weapon is firmly established ahead of Chet Holmgren, which should give him an excellent floor in most DFS slates. Williams is averaging 19.1 points per game in eight playoff contests thus far, but it's worth noting this was his lowest-scoring performance of the postseason.

42m agoHenrique (ankle) won't play Tuesday in Game 4 against the Canucks, per Tony Brar of Oilers TV.
Henrique will miss his second straight contest. He has picked up one goal, one assist, four shots on net and 22 hits in six outings this postseason. The 34-year-old forward had 24 goals and 51 points in 82 appearances between the Oilers and Ducks during the 2023-24 regular season.

Chris Kreider NYR LWRangers' Chris Kreider: Minus-3 in loss
1h agoKreider was on the ice for three goals against in Monday's 4-1 loss to Carolina in Game 5.
It was a forgettable night for Kreider as he failed to register a point and went minus-3 in the contest. No other player on New York was on the ice for more than two goals against in Monday's loss. After starting the postseason with points in six of seven games, Kreider has now failed to find the scoresheet in consecutive games. The 33-year-old did have two shots on goal and four hits in 18:51 of ice time. Kreider and the Rangers will have another chance to eliminate the Hurricanes in Game 6 on Thursday.

1h agoPickard was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, Mike Zeisberger of NHL.com reports, indicating he will patrol the home crease Tuesday in Game 4 versus Vancouver.
Pickard will get his first NHL playoff start due to the struggles of Stuart Skinner. The 25-year-old Skinner has surrendered 12 goals on 58 shots en route to a 1-2 record during Edmonton's second-round series against the Canucks. Pickard posted a 12-7-1 record with a 2.45 GAA and a .909 save percentage in 23 outings during the 2023-24 regular season.

1h agoTrocheck failed to register a point in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes in Game 5.
After starting the postseason with at least one point in seven consecutive contests, Trocheck has now been held without a point in back-to-back games. The 30-year-old forward did have three shots on net, one blocked shot and six hits in 21:58 of ice time. That amount of ice time was the most of any skater in the contest. This shows the level of trust New York head coach Peter Laviolette has in his second-line center playing in all situations. Trocheck is up to five goals and seven assists with a minus-1 rating in nine games so far this postseason.

2h agoTrouba scored a shorthanded goal in Monday's 4-1 loss to Carolina in Game 5.
Trouba opened the scoring in the second period by firing a wrist shot past Carolina's Frederik Andersen but that was it for New York's offensive output in the tilt. It was Trouba's first goal of the postseason. The 30-year-old defenseman also had two shots on goal, three hits and four blocked shots in 18:38 of ice time. Trouba has four points (one goal) and a plus-1 rating in nine outings during the postseason.

Evgeny Kuznetsov CAR CHurricanes' Evgeny Kuznetsov: Scores game-winning goal
2h agoKuznetsov potted the game-winning goal in Monday's 4-1 win over New York in Game 5.
After being a healthy scratch in Game 2 of this series, Kuznetsov has now scored in consecutive contests to help keep Carolina's season alive. The 31-year-old forward drove to the net and buried a rebound off of a shot from Brady Skjei. It was Kuznetsov's fourth goal and sixth point of the postseason in nine contests. Kuznetsov and the Hurricanes will be at home Thursday night for Game 6 against the Rangers in another potential elimination game.
