2m agoThe Saints signed Patrick (calf) to a one-year contract Sunday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Patrick appeared in 23 games with 20 starts over the past two seasons with Chicago. The 30-year-old was the team's starting center for almost the entire 2023 campaign, but he ended the year on IR due to an unspecified calf injury. Whe the nature of this issue was never revealed, Patrick now appears to be healthy again. He should now provide depth along the interior of New Orleans' offensive line.

14m agoThe Buccaneers signed Jefferson on Sunday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.
Jefferson was one of 26 players brought in on a tryout basis during Tampa Bay's rookie minicamp Friday and Saturday. The 5-foot-10 running back played at four different schools during his collegiate career, beginning at Maine in 2017. He spent his final two seasons with Kentucky after a standout stint at FCS Sam Houston, where he logged 1,907 yards on 299 carries across two years. However, he finished with just 28 rushes for 184 yards across 11 games with the Wildcats in 2023.

4h agoThe Lions are signing Davis to a contract after he attended rookie camp on a tryout basis, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Davis was waived by the Cardinals in late April after spending most of last year on the team's practice squad. He was active for one contest during the campaign but didn't see any snaps. The 25-year-old will get a shot to compete for a roster spot among a wide-receiver corps that is headed by Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.

Olumuyiwa Fashanu NYJ OTJets' Olumuyiwa Fashanu: Recovering from quad injury
5h agoFashanu strained his quadriceps while running the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and could miss some or all of OTAs due to the injury, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Rosenblatt described the injury as minor, so Fashanu should be recovered well before the start of the regular season, but the 11th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft may not be ready to join his new teammates at the start of offseason workouts. The offensive tackle out of Penn State has been working off to the side with trainers during the Jets' rookie minicamp.

22h agoDupree will sign a two-year contract with the Chargers, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Dupree reportedly met with both the Falcons and Steelers recently in addition to the Chargers, and it appears that he'll end up with Los Angeles. The veteran edge rusher enjoyed a solid bounce-back campaign with Atlanta last season, recording 39 tackles (his most since 2019), including 6.5 sacks (his most since 2020). Dupree will add to an already formidable Chargers pass rush that also includes Joey Bosa (foot), Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu.

1d agoThe Panthers waived Parker with an undisclosed non-football injury Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
The details and severity of Parker's injury are unknown, other than the fact that it did not occur on the football field. The cornerback will now be available to be claimed off waivers should any other teams show interest.

Jung Hoo Lee SF CFGiants' Jung Hoo Lee: Exits game with left arm injury
25m agoLee left in the first inning of Sunday's game against the Reds with a left arm injury, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Lee crashed into the outfield fence attempting to make a catch in the top of the first inning. He fell to the ground and immediately grabbed his left shoulder, and the athletic trainer was holding Lee's left arm as they walked off the field. Lee is coming off a three-game absence due to a sore foot, and it appears the 25-year-old is set to miss even more time with what appears to be a more significant injury. Tyler Fitzgerald has taken over at center field for the rest of Sunday's game.

26m agoFriedl left Sunday's game against the Giants after being hit by a pitch on the left thumb area in the top of the first inning, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Friedl spent a fair amount of time with the trainer, and while he stayed in the game initially, he didn't feel good in the cages in between innings, per the Reds' television broadcast. The 28-year-old had just returned from a right wrist injury suffered on a diving attempt during spring training, so it's not the same hand, but regardless he will likely need X-rays.

Patrick Bailey SF CGiants' Patrick Bailey: Scratched from lineup Sunday
43m agoBailey has been scratched from the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Reds, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Bailey was set to start at DH and bat in the cleanup spot, but he has since been removed from the lineup. Wilmer Flores will take over as the designated hitter Sunday and will bat fourth against Reds right-hander Frankie Montas.

Tommy Kahnle NYY RPYankees' Tommy Kahnle: Effective in second rehab outing
1h agoKahnle (shoulder) tossed a perfect inning in a rehab appearance with Single-A Tampa on Saturday, striking out one batter.
Kahnle threw of 10 of 15 pitches for strikes in the appearance and got up to 95.5 mph with his sinker, per Conor Foley of YES Network. The veteran reliever has completed two of what is expected to be at least five rehab outings, pitching two perfect frames with three strikeouts thus far. If all goes well for Kahnle during the remainder of his rehab stint, he could join the major-league bullpen within the next two weeks.

D'Arnaud will get a breather Sunday after starting in each of the last four games. He's gone 4-for-18 in May but has registered a hit in each of his last straight games. Chadwick Tromp will start behind the plate and bat ninth against Mets right-hander Luis Severino.

Mike Trout LAA CFAngels' Mike Trout: Unsure about return timeline
1h agoTrout said Thursday that he doesn't yet have a timeline to return from the surgery he underwent on his left knee, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. The slugger also stated that he was given the option to postpone surgery until after the season and play exclusively as a designated hitter, but he opted to get the procedure done immediately.
Trout underwent surgery to repair the meniscus in his left knee May 3. The Angels have stated that they expect the three-time AL MVP to return before the end of the season, but it remains unclear exactly how much time he's expected to miss. Though Trout could have played through the injury and held off on surgery in order to serve as the Angels' DH, he may not have been able to do so at his usual level of effectiveness, as he indicated that such a route would have required a high level of injury management and substantial pain.

Phillips missed the Bulls' final 18 games with a right midfoot sprain, but he seems to be fully recovered. Phillips appeared in 40 games for Chicago as a rookie, averaging 2.2 points over 8.1 minutes.

Coach Tom Thibodeau said Sunday that Anunoby had been doing "pool work" and hasn't started running yet as he rehabs a left hamstring injury he sustained in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. It seems as though Anunoby has a ways to go before returning to the hardwood, putting his status for the rest of the series in serious jeopardy.

Nesmith was deemed questionable ahead of Sunday's contest with a sore right shoulder. However, he'll suit up for the contest and should have no restrictions. Nesmith is averaging 9.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game during the series.

Haliburton will play through multiple injuries Sunday, as he's dealing with low back spasms, a right ankle sprain and a sacral contusion. Despite the injuries, Haliburton has played 35 or more minutes in each game this series and has topped 30 points in back-to-back contests.

9h agoWade (knee) finished Saturday's 106-93 loss to Boston in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinal round with five points (2-6 FG, 1-4 3Pt), three rebounds, three assists and one block in 17 minutes.
Suiting up for the first time since March 8 after needing two months to heal up from a sprained knee, Wade captured a rotation spot and helped provide the Cavaliers with some much-needed depth in the frontcourt. Though he acquitted himself well during his time on the court, Wade is unlikely to see his role grow substantially as the series rolls along, especially once center Jarrett Allen (ribs) is back in action.

9h agoStrus totaled six points (2-8 FG, 2-6 3Pt), five rebounds and two assists over 37 minutes during Saturday's 106-93 loss to the Celtics in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Strus continues to deliver nothing but mediocrity, scoring fewer than 15 points for the eighth time in the past nine games, all during the playoffs. If the Cavaliers have any chance of beating the Celtics, they are going to need Strus to rediscover his form from earlier in the season. Based on what we have seen during the postseason, that might be wishful thinking.

Connor Brown will reenter the lineup in Henrique's absence.

Marchand will miss at least one contest after being injured in Friday's 6-2 Game 3 loss to the Panthers. He has racked up three goals and 10 points in 10 outings this postseason. Marchand could be replaced in the lineup by Danton Heinen (undisclosed), who has missed the past five games.
