Raheem Mostert MIA RB
Dolphins' Raheem Mostert: Happy with added backfield depth
13m agoMostert said Tuesday he's "excited" to have rookie fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright join himself and De'Von Achane in Miami's backfield, Nick Shook of NFL.com reports.
Mostert said he's "excited to have [Wright] here and try to coach him up, try to help him out within this offense. As he enters his age-32 seasons, Mostert and Achane are clearly the top dogs of the Dolphins' rushing game after both having accomplished extremely efficient seasons in 2023, likely leaving Wright to start out a as a third-stringer, with Jeff Wilson potentially on the outside looking in. Of course, neither Mostert or Achane boast ideal profiles for a heavy workload, so Wright could find himself earning opportunities earlier than typical for a No. 3 option. All three of Mostert, Achane and Wright boast atypical explosiveness, so it's possible that Mike McDaniel's scheme could manage to deploy each back relatively interchangeably.

Tua Tagovailoa MIA QB
Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Finally gets No. 3 receiver
2h agoTagovailoa's top wide receiver options Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle will be joined by Odell Beckham, who officially signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins on Wednesday,
Miami added offensive tackle Patrick Paul in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft to help Tagovailoa stay upright, a key move following the departure of Robert Hunt to Carolina, but the team's only notable skill-position splashes were sixth-round wideout Malik Washington and fourth-round running back Jaylen Wright, both of whom are speedsters set to begin in depth roles. Adding an experienced veteran in the form of Beckham should finally provide Miami's offense with a reliable third starting wideout, something the team has lacked since coach Mike McDaniel's arrival in 2022. As Marcel Louis-Jacques notes, beyond the top tandem of Hill and Waddle no receiver has logged more than 32 catches or 417 yards in the McDaniel era. The arrival of Beckham, not to mention new tight end Jonnu Smith, promises to finally provide Tagovailoa with more reliable playmakers beyond his top two options.

Markus Bailey CIN LB
Cardinals' Markus Bailey: Inks deal with Arizona
16h agoBailey agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Cardinals on Tuesday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
After four years in Cincinnati, Bailey will get a fresh start in Arizona. The 27-year-old accumulated 73 tackles (46 solo) across 60 games with the Bengals, primarily as a depth linebacker and special teams contributor. He will now look to impress in OTAs and carve out a role for himself with his new team.
-
Shakel Brown 2005 DT
Shakel Brown: Let go by Tennessee
19h agoBrown (ankle) was waived by the Titans on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Brown spent all last season on IR, but he was waived without an injury designation, so he should be considered healthy. The 25-year-old was an undrafted free agent out of Troy in 2023 and was working to earn a spot on the Titans defensive line when he suffered a preseason ankle injury.
-
Ryan Swoboda ATL OL
Ryan Swoboda: Gets cut loose
19h agoSwoboda (undisclosed) was waived by the Falcons with an injury designation Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Swoboda will revert to injured reserve if he goes unclaimed. At that point, he'll be forced to miss the entirety of the 2024 campaign unless he can reach an injury settlement with Atlanta.
-
Kyle Peko DET NT
Lions' Kyle Peko: Finds new home
19h agoPeko (calf) signed a contract with the Lions on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Peko finished last season on injured reserve after competing in 13 games and recording 22 combined tackles. Now healthy again, the veteran lineman will get an opportunity in Detroit for his seventh NFL season. The Oregon State product will also have the chance to reunite with his defensive line coach from the Titans, Terrell Williams, who holds the same position now with the Lions.

Jeff McNeil NYM 2B
Mets' Jeff McNeil: Receiving breather Wednesday
2m agoMcNeil is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
McNeil is likely just sitting out as part of a planned rest day, as he had started each of the Mets' last 30 games dating back to April 5. Joey Wendle will fill in for McNeil at the keystone.
-
Tomas Nido NYM C
Mets' Tomas Nido: Retreating to bench Wednesday
4m agoNido is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Nido will get a breather for the day game after he started behind the dish in both of the first two contests of the series. Omar Narvaez will form a battery with starting pitcher Jose Quintana on Wednesday.
-
Will Smith LAD C
Dodgers' Will Smith: Not in Wednesday's lineup
4m agoSmith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
The Dodgers are playing a day game after a night game, so it makes sense to give Smith a day to rest his legs. Austin Barnes will do the catching for Gavin Stone on Wednesday as the Dodgers go for the series sweep.
-
Kyle McCann OAK C
Athletics' Kyle McCann: Impressive pop in Tuesday's loss
11m agoMcCann went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run, a walk and two additional runs in a loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.
The reserve backstop continues to parlay his occasional opportunities into standout offensive production, with Tuesday's impressive day pushing his average and OPS to .393 and 1.235, respectively, across 33 plate appearances. While the small-sample caveat certainly applies, it's difficult to dismiss how quickly McCann seems to have acclimated to big-league arms after displaying impressive bat skills at both the Double-A and Triple-A levels the last two seasons. Shea Langeliers remains the top backstop at the moment and certainly has the edge in terms of knowledge of the pitching staff, but given the expansive gulf in offensive performance between the two thus far, it's conceivable McCann could progressively carve out more consistent opportunities.
-
Seth Brown OAK LF
Athletics' Seth Brown: Uncorks three-run shot Tuesday
16m agoBrown went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.
Brown's eighth-inning shot with JJ Bleday and Brent Rooker aboard got the Athletics out of a double-digit deficit, but it would also be the final runs of the day for Oakland. The 31-year-old snapped a six-game home-run drought with the round-tripper, as well as the 0-for-11 slump he'd been mired in during that stretch. Brown is still limping along with a .179/.243/.305 slash line, and a strikeout rate that's ballooned to 31.1 percent this season is playing a prominent role in the struggles.

Yimi Garcia TOR RP
Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Hopes to be available Wednesday
20m agoThe Blue Jays hope Garcia (back) will be available to pitch Wednesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Garcia's last appearance came all the way back on April 28 as he deals with a nagging back issue. He's apparently feeling better, though, and as long as he checks out well during a pregame throwing session he is expected to be available out of the bullpen Wednesday. Garcia has been one of the best relievers in baseball this season, allowing just one run with a 16:3 K:BB over 13.1 innings.

Derrick White BOS SG
Celtics' Derrick White: Shines in Game 1 victory
2h agoWhite registered 25 points (9-16 FG, 7-12 3Pt), one rebound and five assists in 33 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 victory over Cleveland in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
White embraced a bigger role on offense on a night when Jayson Tatum struggled (7-19 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), and the former responded by delivering his third consecutive game with 25 or more points. White has taken a step forward due to Kristaps Porzingis (calf) being sidelined, and it'd be fair to consider him Boston's third-best offensive weapon under the current lineup construction. White will aim to keep the streak alive in Game 2 on Thursday, as the Celtics have gone 20-3 this season when he's scored 20 or more points between the regular season and the playoffs.
-
Jaylen Brown BOS SF
Celtics' Jaylen Brown: Leads Boston in scoring
2h agoBrown notched 32 points (12-18 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six rebounds, two assists and one block across 34 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 win over the Cavaliers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Jayson Tatum had a rough shooting performance in the series opener, but Brown was there to pick him up, and the latter led the Celtics in scoring with an impressive, efficient display on the offensive end of the court. Brown has scored 20 or more points in four of his last five playoff appearances, and he'll aim to keep that streak alive in Game 2 on Thursday.
-
Jayson Tatum BOS PF
Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Rough shooting effort Tuesday
2h agoTatum totaled 18 points (7-19 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks over 35 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 victory over the Cavaliers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
The Celtics cruised to a 25-point win in the series opener, but Tatum's shooting struggles can't be overlooked, as he had a rough outing and struggled to get things going offensively. The fact that he still came close to reaching the 20-point mark while also posting a double-double goes to show just how immensely talented he is, as he can post above-average numbers even when he has a down night by his standards. Tatum will aim to deliver a bounce-back performance in Game 2 on Thursday.
-
Darius Garland CLE PG
Cavaliers' Darius Garland: Poor shooting display Tuesday
2h agoGarland had 14 points (6-15 FG, 2-8 3Pt), three rebounds, five assists and one steal over 36 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Garland is in line for a rough matchup in this series, as he'll have to deal with two excellent defenders in Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, so his Game 1 display is not entirely surprising. He didn't have his best performances in the first-round series against the Magic either, and he's averaging just 14.8 points and 5.4 assists per game through eight playoff appearances. In fact, Garland has failed to surpass the 15-point mark in six of his eight playoff outings, a clear downgrade after averaging 18.0 points per contest during the regular season.
-
Donovan Mitchell CLE SG
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Puts up 33 points in Game 1 loss
2h agoMitchell produced 33 points (12-25 FG, 4-11 3Pt, 5-5 FT), six rebounds, five assists and one steal across 37 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Mitchell carried the momentum he had from his epic Game 7 performance against the Magic on Sunday and surpassed the 30-point mark once again. However, the rest of his teammates didn't step up, and the Cavaliers suffered a devastating 25-point loss in the series opener. Mitchell should continue to post excellent numbers as the Cavaliers' go-to player on offense -- by a wide margin -- but there's a chance his mighty performances might not translate into wins as it happened against the Magic in the previous round.
-
Evan Mobley CLE PF
Cavaliers' Evan Mobley: Double-doubles in Game 1 loss
2h agoMobley accumulated 17 points (8-12 FG, 1-2 FT), 13 rebounds, three assists and one block in 32 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Mobley continues to play as Cleveland's starting center due to Jarrett Allen (ribs) being sidelined, but his numbers have not suffered. Mobley recorded his third double-double across his last four appearances Tuesday, and he should continue to operate as a reliable two-way threat in Game 2 on Thursday, especially if Allen can't suit up again.
-
Jeremy Swayman BOS G
Bruins' Jeremy Swayman: Slated to start
28m agoSwayman was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate, per Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald, putting him on track to guard the road goal in Wednesday's Game 2 versus Florida.
Swayman was exceptional in Monday's Game 1, turning aside 38 of 39 shots en route to a convincing 5-1 win. As long as the 25-year-old netminder continues to play at this level, it seems unlikely coach Jim Montgomery will go back to the rotation between Swayman and Linus Ullmark he utilized to open the Bruins' first-round series versus Toronto.
-
Sergei Bobrovsky FLA G
Panthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: In goal for Game 2
1h agoBobrovsky will patrol the home crease during Wednesday's Game 2 versus Boston, Colby Guy of Florida Hockey Now reports.
Bobrovsky struggled in Monday's Game 1 against the Bruins, surrendering four goals on only 28 shots en route to a 5-1 defeat. The 35-year-old netminder will attempt to bounce back and help the Panthers even up the series at one game apiece before heading to Beantown for Game 3 on Friday.
-
Hugh McGing STL C
Blues' Hugh McGing: Signs two-year extension
1h agoMcGing signed a two-year, two-way contract extension with the Blues on Wednesday.
McGing spent most of the 2023-24 campaign with AHL Springfield, picking up eight goals and 39 points through 51 contests, but he also drew into five games with St. Louis, going scoreless over that span. He'll likely continue to fill a similar role for the organization over the next two seasons.
-
Mikko Rantanen COL RW
Avalanche's Mikko Rantanen: Two more helpers in Game 1
1h agoRantanen logged two assists in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime victory over the Stars in Game 1.
Rantanen set up Cale Makar's power-play marker midway through the second period before grabbing the primary helper on Nathan MacKinnon's game-tying goal 39 seconds into the third. The 27-year-old Rantanen has points in six straight games to start the postseason, recording two goals and nine assists. He posted 104 points (42 goals, 62 assists) in 80 regular-season contests.
-
Miles Wood COL LW
Avalanche's Miles Wood: Nets overtime winner
1h agoWood scored a goal on his lone shot in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime victory over Dallas in Game 1.
Wood tallied the game-winner 11:03 into the extra frame Tuesday, sliding a backhander past Jake Oettinger on a breakaway. Wood had gone three games without a point after tallying goals in the first two games of Colorado's opening-round series versus the Jets. The 28-year-old winger had nine goals and 26 points in 74 regular-season games while working primarily in a bottom-six role.
-
Sam Bennett FLA C
Panthers' Sam Bennett: Still sidelined
1h agoBennett (upper body) isn't on the ice for morning skate and isn't expected to be available for Wednesday's Game 2 against Boston, George Richards of Florida Hockey Now reports.
Bennett will miss a fifth straight contest due to his upper-body injury. Anton Lundell, who's been hot with four helpers in his last five games, should continue to center the second line until Bennett is ready to return.
