31m agoThe Broncos selected Gargiulo in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 256th overall.
Gargiulo began his collegiate career at Yale but transferred to South Carolina for his sixth and final season of collegiate football. He split time between center and left guard with South Carolina but played tackle at Yale. At just over 6-foot-5 Gargiulo might be a bit tall to play comfortably at center in the NFL, so guard might be a little easier of a fit. With 33 and 7/8-inch arms it's generally assumed that Gargiulo won't get a serious look at tackle, but he's played everywhere on the line by this point so Gargiulo could conceivably compete for reps at any of the five spots for Denver down the road.

33m agoThe Jets selected Key in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 257th overall.
The final pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, Key was a three-star recruit all the way back in 2018 playing five seasons with UAB before transferring to Alabama for his final collegiate campaign. A solid athlete with an unspectacular frame (6-foot-1), Key will have an opportunity to be a special teams ace for the Jets immediately off the rip and could carve out a role as a depth safety in due time.

Kalen King 2005 CBPackers' Kalen King: Falls to Green Bay in Round 7
38m agoThe Packers selected King in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 255th overall.
King entered this season with some buzz as a much earlier pick after leading the Big 10 in pass breakups as a true sophomore with 21. His pass breakup count dropped to just two in 12 games in 2023, and he had no interceptions. His combine performance further hurt his stock as he ran a 4.61 at 5-foot-11, 191 pounds. The Packers can dream on recapturing King's 2022 form because production like that is uncommon. They will also have to hope that they are not getting the player they saw in 2023.

Cornelius Johnson LAC WRChargers' Cornelius Johnson: Joins Harbaugh in Los Angeles
39m agoThe Chargers selected Johnson in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 253rd overall.
The popular assumption was the Chargers would invest a number of draft picks in former Michigan players to join Jim Harbaugh in his new digs, but Johnson represents just the second maize and blue to be drafted by Los Angeles. At 6-foot-3, 228 pounds, Johnson proved to be a capable receiver in his five seasons at Ann Arbor tallying 1,730 receiving yards and 119 receptions over the final three campaigns in the run-heavy offense. It's hard to imagine Johnson finally breaking out as a quality target despite all of his physical gifts, but at least alongside Harbaugh, he'll have some familiarity from a leadership perspective.

43m agoThe Titans selected Harrell in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 252nd overall.
Harrell is a fringe prospect for a reason -- namely, he's unrefined as a pass rusher and doesn't have much variety of moves to work around blockers -- but as far as seventh-round picks go he can't be a bad value. Harrell was a prominent contributor on Michigan's National Championship-winning defense, and at 6-foot-4, 250 pounds he boasts a 40-yard dash time around the 4.70-second range. Those are good enough athletic tools for the NFL, so it's just on Harrell to develop his skill set a bit more to become more consistently disruptive.

Tatum Bethune SF LB49ers' Tatum Bethune: Links up with San Francisco
44m agoThe 49ers selected Bethune in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 251st overall.
Bethune is a seasoned linebacker who appeared in 61 games over five seasons at Florida State. He lacks speed (4.75) for his size (5-foot-11, 229) and was known to overpursue plays during his time in college. Special teams will likely be his meal ticket in the early going, but landing in San Francisco is a good spot for him to develop given the franchise's success in unearthing gems at this position late in drafts.

4m agoSewald (oblique) will have his rehab slowed a bit due to soreness, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.
Sewald felt some soreness following a rehab appearance with Triple-A Reno earlier this week. He had been scheduled for a bullpen session Saturday, but that has been scrapped. While it does not seem to be a major setback for the reliever, Sewald no longer appears poised to return soon. Kevin Ginkel will continue to serve as the Diamondbacks' closer while Sewald recovers.

8m agoHenderson went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 7-0 win over the A's.
The 22-year-old shortstop capped the scoring on the afternoon by taking JP Sears deep in the seventh inning. The long ball was Henderson's third in the last four games, continuing a blistering stretch that has seen him rack up eight multi-hit performances in his last 12 contests while batting .408 (20-for-49). The surge has boosted Henderson's slash line on the season to .302/.361/.642 with nine homers, six steals, 22 RBI and 23 runs in 106 plate appearances.

Tyler Stephenson CIN CReds' Tyler Stephenson: OK following hit-by-pitch
9m agoReds manager David Bell said the removal of Stephenson from Saturday's game versus the Rangers following a hit-by-pitch on the right hand was precautionary, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
It doesn't sound like Stephenson even needed to undergo any testing. It's possible the Reds will choose to hold him out Sunday, particularly because it's an afternoon game, but Stephenson is expected to be fine.

Cole Irvin BAL SPOrioles' Cole Irvin: Blanks Oakland on Saturday
14m agoIrvin (2-1) picked up the win Saturday, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings in a 7-0 victory over the A's. He struck out five without walking a batter.
For the second straight start, Irvin led the Orioles to a combined shutout. The southpaw retired the first 10 batters he faced, and Oakland failed to get a baserunner into scoring position until he'd left the mound. Irvin tossed 63 of 89 pitches for strikes as he extended his scoreless streak to 14.1 innings, and his impressive stretch may have come in the nick of time to save his rotation spot -- Kyle Bradish (elbow) is ready to come off the IL, and John Means (forearm) may not be far behind. Bradish lines up to take Irvin's spot next Wednesday at home against the Yankees, but Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reported prior to Saturday's game that Baltimore could shift to a six-man rotation in the short term. Irvin sports a 3.49 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB through 28.1 innings.

18m agoGray (3-1) picked up the win Saturday versus the Mets, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out nine.
The Mets plated four runs during a sloppy fifth innings by the Cardinals which included a Nolan Arenado error. Just one of the runs on Gray's ledgers was earned, however, and he was in total control outside of that frame, facing just three over the minimum. Gray tripled his season walk total with three free passes in this one, but with the nine punchouts he now has an excellent 32:4 K:BB over his first 23.1 innings with St. Louis.

27m agoBrash has been shut down after having a setback with his right elbow while playing catch Friday, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
Brash is headed to Dallas to receive an opinion from Dr. Keith Meister on his injured elbow. It sounds like the setback is a significant one, with Mariners general manager Justin Hollander saying the team is "concerned." Brash had been closing in on a rehab assignment, but his status in the short- and long-term is very much up in the air.

5m agoAnderson is questionable for Sunday's Game 4 against the Suns due to a right hip injury, Gerald Bourguet of GoPHNX.com reports.
Anderson was questionable before Game 3 on Friday, and even though he played, he only logged eight minutes off the bench. A similar workload might be expected for Sunday's contest, meaning his fantasy upside will be almost minimal.

Wood will finally return after a prolonged absence, as he hasn't stepped on the court since Feb. 14. He's expected to have a role off the bench and will compete for frontcourt minutes with Jaxson Hayes, though by all accounts, his role will be minimal Saturday.

Davis popped up as questionable on the injury report with a left wrist sprain after previously battling a back injury and some soreness in both heels. But with Los Angeles' season on the line, Davis will continue to push through his ailments.

Hakanpaa is likely not an option for Saturday's Game 3 or Monday's Game 4 versus Vegas, and if the Stars don't win one of those games, their season is over. Hakanpaa's continued absence will keep Nils Lundkvist in the lineup on the third pairing. Hakanpaa can be considered out indefinitely until he resumes practicing with the team.

Fleury had a goal, five points, 31 hits and 40 blocks in 24 regular-season outings. He hasn't been in the lineup since April 6 because of the injury. If Fleury had been available for Game 4, he might have served as the seventh defenseman or been a healthy scratch.

Mikhail Sergachev TB DLightning's Mikhail Sergachev: Surprise return Saturday
3h agoSergachev (leg) was activated off long-term injured reserve, per the NHL media site, which sets him up to return for Game 4 against Florida on Saturday.
Sergachev was previously ruled out for the entire first round, so this news is a huge surprise. However, Tampa Bay is down 3-0 in the series, so if the defenseman didn't come back now, then it might have been too late. He had two goals, 19 points, 36 hits and 70 blocks in 34 regular-season appearances. While Sergachev typically serves in a top-four capacity, his minutes might be limited in his first contest since February 7.

Vasilevskiy has gone 0-3 this postseason, surrendering nine goals on 94 shots (.904 save percentage). The Lightning need a victory Saturday to avoid a four-game sweep, and the team should get a boost from having Mikhail Sergachev (leg) back in the lineup.

Brenden Dillon WPG DJets' Brenden Dillon: Questionable for Sunday
3h agoDillon didn't receive any muscle or tendon damage as a result of the skate cut to his hand, which occurred during a scrum at the end of Friday's 6-2 loss to Colorado in Game 3. Although it's great news that he didn't suffer a more serious injury, the 33-year-old defenseman did require stitches and remains questionable for Game 4 versus the Avalanche on Sunday, Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press reports Saturday.
Dillon has three assists, four PIM, 12 hits and six blocks while averaging 21:04 of ice time across three playoff contests this year. He also accumulated eight goals, 20 points, 92 PIM, 241 hits and 111 blocks in 77 regular-season outings. If Dillon is forced to miss any action due to the injury, then Logan Stanley will likely draw into the lineup.

Forbort sat out the final 20 games of the regular season and Boston's first three playoff contests. He will be an option to play in Game 4 against Toronto on Saturday, but it wouldn't be surprising if he served as a healthy scratch. The 32-year-old blueliner earned four assists, 22 shots on goal, 65 blocked shots and 68 hits in 35 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign.
