5h agoManning (undisclosed) cleared waivers and reverted to the Panthers' injured reserve list Monday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
The severity of Manning's injury is not yet known. The offensive guard will need to reach an injury settlement with the team to potentially play in 2024.

6h agoDorsett signed with the Broncos on Monday after being released Friday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
The wide receiver spent 2023 with Denver's practice squad, playing in two games and not catching any of his three targets. The 2015 first-round pick has just 21 receptions over the past four seasons with four different teams. Now he'll get a chance to stick with Denver on a depth chart that includes 12 wide receivers.

The running back signed with New York's practice squad in December and inked a reserve/future contract in January. Patrick last appeared in an NFL game in 2021 with the 49ers.

The defensive tackle played in 32 games with the Lions between the 2020 and 2021 seasons but has not appeared in an NFL game since. Penisini was waived from Carolina's reserve/PUP list last August.

9h agoThe Panthers signed Smith on Monday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Smith bounced back and forth between the Vikings' practice squad and active roster over the course of his three-year NFL career, but he's now found a new home in Carolina. The 27-year-old defensive lineman has appeared in four games during his time in the league, recording 11 total tackles while playing 108 total snaps (86 defensive, 22 on special teams). He's expected to compete for a backup role in the Panthers defense as the offseason advances.

Jared Goff DET QBLions' Jared Goff: Lands four-year, $212M extension
9h agoThe Lions signed Goff to a four-year, $212 million contract extension Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The deal contains $170 million guaranteed, and Goff is now the highest-paid player in Lions franchise history. The 2016 No. 1 overall pick of the Rams, Goff was acquired from Los Angeles in the Matthew Stafford haul from the 2021 offseason and has resurrected his career under Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. In three seasons with Detroit, Goff has completed 66.5 percent of his passes, up from 63.4 percent with Los Angeles, and has thrown for 12,258 yards with a splendid 78:27 TD:INT. He's lowered his turnover rate with Detroit and just helped lead the team to the NFC Championship Game last season. Goff is still just 29 years old and is locked in with the Lions for at least the next few seasons.

3m agoBogaerts went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Rockies.
Bogaerts has doubled his homer total for the year from two to four by going deep in each of the last two games. Prior to the power uptick, he endured an 0-for-15 slump over four contests. The veteran infielder is still battling inconsistency with a .212/.264/.318 slash line, 13 RBI, 23 runs scored, two stolen bases and six doubles through 182 plate appearances this season. He's never posted an OPS lower than .659 in a full campaign, and there's plenty of time for Bogaerts to turn things around in 2024.

Randy Vasquez SD SPPadres' Randy Vasquez: Gives up five runs in loss
7m agoVasquez (0-2) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk while failing to strike out a batter over 3.2 innings, taking the loss Monday versus the Rockies.
Vasquez gave up four of those runs in the fourth inning and was ultimately relieved by Adrian Morejon. Aside from his start versus the Cubs last Tuesday, Vasquez has posted mostly mediocre outings at the major-league level this year. He's at a 6.32 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 11:4 K:BB through 15.2 innings across four starts. If Joe Musgrove (elbow) returns from the injured list when first eligible Friday, Vasquez could lose his place on the 26-man roster.

Alex Bregman HOU 3BAstros' Alex Bregman: Explodes for two homers, four RBI
8m agoBregman went 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs, a double, four total RBI, three total runs and a walk in a 9-2 victory against the Athletics on Monday.
Bregman came into Monday looking like a shell of his former power-hitting self with just one long ball through 159 plate appearances, but he brought back reminders of his 41-homer 2019 campaign with a pair of solo blasts in the victory. The third baseman capped the big performance with a two-run double in the eighth inning, giving him a season-high four RBI and his second three-hit effort of the campaign. Bregman could be in the midst of turning around what had previously looked like a tepid season, as he's on a five-game hitting streak during which he's gone 8-for-20 (.400 average) with four extra-base hits and six RBI.

Charlie Blackmon COL RFRockies' Charlie Blackmon: Picks up second steal
10m agoBlackmon went 1-for-5 with a stolen base, one RBI and one run scored in Monday's 5-4 win over the Padres.
Blackmon was part of the Rockies' fourth-inning rally. He drove in a run with a single, stole second and scored an Ezequiel Tovar single. Blackmon is 9-for-22 (.409) with nine RBI and four extra-base hits during his six-game hitting streak. The 37-year-old is slashing .248/.311/.380 with two steals, one home runs, 18 RBI and 17 runs scored over 132 plate appearances this season. Despite a significant drop in his hitting from last year, Blackmon's recent surge has helped him reclaim at least a share of the leadoff spot.

Jalen Beeks COL RPRockies' Jalen Beeks: Secures another save
14m agoBeeks walked three batters in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Monday's 5-4 win over the Padres.
Beeks has earned a save in four of his last five appearances, including three saves in the last four days. The southpaw has permitted multiple baserunners in back-to-back games, but he continues to dance around trouble. Beeks has four saves, one hold, a 2.21 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP over 20.1 innings this season. He's also sporting a 14:11 K:BB, which casts serious doubt on how long he'll be able to find success in high-leverage situations. Justin Lawrence, who doesn't have a save in May, worked a two-inning assignment and picked up a hold Monday.

Dakota Hudson COL SPRockies' Dakota Hudson: Picks up first win
17m agoHudson (1-6) allowed three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three over 5.2 innings to earn the win Monday over the Padres.
Hudson lost six of his first seven starts with the Rockies, but he was able to get in the win column Monday. While this was a road start, he gave up multiple home runs for the first time this year -- Xander Bogaerts tagged him for a solo shot in the second inning and Jurickson Profar added a two-run blast in the sixth. Hudson is now at a 6.13 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 23:25 K:BB through 39.2 innings this season. He's projected to make his next start on the road in San Francisco.

Strus led all players in Monday's contest in threes made while ending as one of four Cavaliers with double-digit scoring and handing out a team-high-tying assist total along with a pair of steals. Strus, who also hauled in seven boards, posted a new playoff high in threes made and notched his second game with 10 or more points in the series against the Celtics.

Garland led all Cavaliers in scoring while connecting on a quartet of threes, handing out a team-high-tying assist total and adding a pair of steals in a well-rounded Game 4 against the Celtics. Garland, playing with more weight on his shoulders to lead the short-handed Cavaliers offensively, posted his highest scoring total of the postseason thus far. He has recorded at least 14 points and four assists in all four games against Boston in the semifinals.

Caris LeVert CLE SGCavaliers' Caris LeVert: Nears 20 points in Game 4 start
3h agoLeVert ended with 19 points (9-18 FG, 1-8 3Pt), five rebounds, three assists, one block and two steals across 39 minutes during Monday's 109-102 loss to the Celtics in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
LeVert got the starting nod with the Cavaliers playing without Jarrett Allen (ribs) and Donovan Mitchell (calf), providing a lift offensively while ending one point shy of the 20-point mark in a losing effort. LeVert has been a key player coming off the bench for Cleveland this series, posting 15 or more points in three of the four games against Boston. If Mitchell is able to return for Game 5, look for LeVert to return to the second unit to be a spark off the bench. If Mitchell does miss Game 5, LeVert will be called upon again to step into the starting lineup.

Holiday led all Celtics in Game 4 in threes made while ending as one of three players with 15 or more points to go along with a team-high-tying handful of assists and a team-best trio of steals in a winning effort. Holiday connected on at least four threes for the first time this postseason, and he has now tallied at least 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists in two straight contests for Boston.

4h agoBrown amassed 27 points (9-15 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 7-9 FT), eight rebounds and one assist in 34 minutes during Monday's 109-102 victory over Cleveland in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Brown was part of a dominant pairing alongside Jayson Tatum, leading Boston offensively en route to helping the team take a 3-1 series advantage. Brown connected on a pair of threes while ending as one of two players with 25 or more points in the victory, also finishing two rebounds shy of a double-double. Brown has turned his game up a notch over the last two games against Cleveland, posting at least 25 points and eight boards in two straight outings.

4h agoTatum had 33 points (11-25 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 9-9 FT), 11 rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals across 44 minutes during Monday's 109-102 win over the Cavaliers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Tatum did a little bit of everything to lead Boston to taking a commanding 3-1 series lead, pacing all players in Monday's contest in scoring and rebounds while shooting a perfect mark from the free-throw line and adding a handful of assists along with a pair of steals. Tatum has scored 25 or more points in three of his four games against Cleveland, turning things up a notch over the last two contests while posting at least 30 points, 10 rebounds and five dimes in each game.

Roope Hintz DAL LWStars' Roope Hintz: Injured Monday
1h agoHintz suffered an upper-body injury during Game 4 against Colorado on Monday.
Hintz logged just 6:35 of ice time before exiting the contest. He's tallied two goals and six points through 11 playoff appearances after racking up 30 goals and 65 points during the regular season. An update on his status should be available before Game 5 on Wednesday.

Toews was available at morning skate but ended up being a late scratch for Monday's game. The 30-year-old blueliner has a goal and six points through eight postseason games after posting 50 points during the regular season. Caleb Jones is expected to dress Monday. Toews' status for Wednesday's Game 5 is currently unknown.

Drouin will make his first appearance of the postseason after missing Colorado's first eight games. The 29-year-old recorded a career-high 56 points with 19 goals in 79 games during the regular season. He should slide into a top-six role.

4h agoNichushkin was placed in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and will be suspended for six months.
Nichushkin was in the program during the regular season, missing 22 games as a result. Now, he's in Stage 3 of the program and will need to apply for reinstatement after a six-month suspension. He scored 28 goals and 53 points through 54 games this season. Nichushkin also racked up nine goals and 10 points through eight playoff games. With him out, Zach Parise could see a bump in playing time.

7h agoShesterkin will get the starting nod for Game 5 at home against the Hurricanes, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports.
Shesterkin was riding a seven-game winning streak to begin the playoffs before Carolina finally beat him in Game 4 on Saturday. He allowed four goals on 31 shots in the loss, the first time this postseason he's allowed more than three. He's registered an impressive .925 save percentage while facing 160 shots this series.

On top of his illness, Chytil is reportedly also dealing with some soreness that's unrelated to the head injury that cost him nearly the entire 2023-24 campaign. He logged one shot and one hit in 12:02 of ice time during the Game 3 win against Carolina, his first game since Nov. 2. He'll be considered question for Game 6 on Thursday, if necessary.
