Bengals' Dax Hill: Operating as cornerback in 2024
1h agoHill is expected to be a part of the Bengals' cornerback room in 2024, Jay Morrison of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Hill spent his sophomore campaign operating as a starting safety for the Bengals, recording 110 tackles, including 1.5 sacks, while also intercepting two passes and deflecting 11 others over 17 contests. Head coach Zac Taylor said Sunday that Hill will "be in the cornerback room" this year, which could mean a position change is in store. The team signed former Raven Geno Stone this offseason and could replace Hill at safety in 2024.

Wiley wasn't selected during the 2024 NFL Draft but will have a chance to compete for a role with Washington during offseason activities. He sustained a thumb injury during the Senior Bowl in March, and it's unclear when he'll be back to full health.

Janke showed improvement over each of his four seasons at South Dakota State, and he tallied 57 receptions for 946 yards and 10 touchdowns while rushing twice for 11 yards and a touchdown in 2023. He'll attempt to make his mark during offseason activities with Houston.

2h agoBecton and the Eagles have agreed on a one-year, $5.5 million contract, pending a physical Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Becton appears to be set to join the Eagles after starting 16 games with the Jets in 2023. The offensive tackle has dealt with multiple significant lower-body injuries in his four-year NFL career, limiting his time on the field, and he'll look to carve out a consistent role with Philadelphia.

Steele began his collegiate career by playing two seasons at Ball State, but he joined UCLA for the 2023 campaign. His production declined with the Bruins, but he still rushed 167 times for 847 yards and six touchdowns while tallying 17 receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns during his year at UCLA. He'll now spend time with Kansas City during offseason activities.

Mountcastle had gone just 1-for-12 over his last three games but collected three hits including his fourth homer. Mountcastle's performance lifted his average to .319 with four homers and 14 RBI.

10m agoMcCann went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 7-6 win over the Orioles.
McCann's second career dinger came off Baltimore closer Craig Kimbrel in the ninth and served as the game-winner. The backup catcher has not seen many opportunities this season, accumulating only 16 at-bats thus far, but has collected two hits and a homer in two of his last three starts.

Rizzo was once again spectacular Sunday, ripping a double in his first at-bat, before later adding another double, a single and a two-run homer later in the contest. The long ball was his fifth of the season and he has now gone deep in back-to-back games and four times in his last six contests. Rizzo is batting .277 with five home runs, 15 RBI and 15 runs scored over 112 at-bats in 29 games in 2024.

15m agoSteer started at first base and went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI in Sunday's 4-3 loss to Texas.
Steer moved from his usual left field to first base, replacing the injured Christian Encarnacion-Strand (hand). The run batted in was just his second in the last 14 games, but Speer continues to the lead the club with 20 RBI through 28 games. The steal was his seventh, nearly half of the 15 he had over 156 games in 2023. Encarnacion-Strand may miss a few more games, per Mark Sheldon of MLB.com, and Steer could add to his games played at first base. So far, he's made four appearances there.

21m agoErceg tossed one flawless inning, striking out two to earn the save during Sunday's 7-6 win over the Orioles.
Erceg was called upon to close the door for his first career save after the A's commandeered the lead in the top of the ninth. The A's regular closer, Mason Miller, has been a revelation in end-game situations for Oakland but was rested for a second game in a row, affording the rare save opportunity for Erceg.

24m agoEncarnacion-Strand was held out of Sunday's game due to a hand injury suffered the previous day, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Encarnacion-Strand was struck on his left hand by a pitch Saturday. According to manager David Bell, X-rays showed he did not sustain a fracture; however, the imaging revealed evidence of a previous fracture that may be contributing to his soreness. Spencer Steer filled at first base for Encarnacion-Strand, who could be out a "few days," per Bell.

Powell provided Los Angeles with a spark off the bench while leading all bench players in Sunday's contest in threes made and scoring in a double-digit performance in Game 4. Powell has connected on at least three threes with 10 or more points in two postseason games thus far, something that will be valuable the rest of the series for the Clippers if he is able to replicate the performance he put forth in Game 4.

George led all players in Sunday's contest in threes made while ending with a team-high-tying point total and leading all Clippers players in assists and steals to help Los Angeles get a much-needed win to even the series with Dallas entering Game 5. George's point and assist totals are his highest of the series thus far, tallying at least 20 points in three straight games. George and James Harden will need to continue to lead the Clippers as they attempt to take a series lead in Game 5 in Los Angeles.

16m agoHarden produced 33 points (12-17 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 5-5 FT), six rebounds, seven assists, one block and one steal in 40 minutes during Sunday's 116-111 victory over Dallas in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Harden stepped up alongside teammate Paul George to lift Los Angeles to a much-needed win in Game 4 to even the series at 2-2 entering Game 5. Harden posted a team-high-tying point total while connecting on a quartet of threes and tallying at least six rebounds and assists in a balanced showing. Harden reached the 30-point mark for the first time of the series, also hauling in his highest rebound total of the postseason thus far.

Jones responded from a scoreless outing in Game 3 by putting forth one of his best performances of the first-round series Sunday in Dallas' loss against Los Angeles. Jones ended second on the team in rebounds, matching his playoff high thus far, while ending as one of four Mavericks with a double-digit point total. Jones notched his highest scoring total of the series, surpassing the double-digit mark in three of his four postseason outings.

Doncic continues to do it all for the Mavericks in the series against the Clippers, doing so again Sunday while leading all players in rebounds and assists along with ending one point shy of the 30-point mark in a losing effort. Doncic has posted a triple-double in two straight games, scoring north of 20 points in all four postseason outings. Look for another big performance from Doncic in Game 5 as he attempts to lift Dallas to a lead in the series.

Irving put on a show offensively for Dallas in Sunday's contest, leading all players in scoring while pacing the Mavericks in threes made and ending second on the team in rebounds and assists in a losing effort. Irving has turned things up a notch in the postseason, tallying at least 20 points in all four games of the first-round series while surpassing the 30-point mark in the last two contests.

31m agoBrossoit was thrust into duty Sunday when starter Connor Hellebuyck was pulled at the end of the second period. He made four saves in relief.
After No. 1 netminder Connor Hellebuyck was pulled in the second period after allowing four goals, Brossoit took over between the pipes and turned aside all four shots sent his way. The Avalanche added an empty-netter with only 13 seconds left in the game. This was Brossoit's first appearance in the playoffs. Look for Winnipeg to return to Hellebuyck when they host Colorado on Tuesday.

With the Avalanche peppering Connor Hellebuyck in the first period, Lehkonen was able to open the scoring for his fourth goal of round one on the 12th shot of the game. Lehkonen added a primary power-play assist late in the second frame to give Colorado a 4-1 lead. He added one hit, three shots on net, one blocked shot, two PIM and a plus-1 rating in 18:39 of ice time. Including the regular season, Lehkonen is on a six-game point streak, scoring four goals and adding five assists over that span.

The 29-year-old winger added two hits, three blocked shots, five shots on net and a plus-2 rating in 22:28 of ice time. 1h agoGeorgiev allowed one goal on 27 shots in Sunday's 5-1 home win over the Jets.
Georgiev allowed a first period goal on the fifth shot of the game but then kicked aside the next 22 shots to keep the Jets off the scoreboard. After a poor performance in game one, Georgiev has only allowed five goals on 77 shots for a .935 save percentage in the last three games. The Avalanche will look to move on to round two when they visit Winnipeg on Tuesday.
