Gathings inked a reserve/future deal with Kansas City back in February after being part of the team's practice squad for nearly two months to close out the 2023 campaign. He's yet to play in a regular-season game.

4h agoThompson-Robinson (hip) will undergo an MRI on Monday and is expected to participate in minicamp next week, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
DTR suffered a hip subluxation against the Texans on Christmas Eve and was ruled out for the remainder of the Browns' season. His most recent MRI in March revealed progress in his rehab, and Thompson-Robinson is hoping the latest one this upcoming week will allow him to get the green light to do some on-field work with the team's rookies and fellow younger players. The Browns signed veteran QBs Jameis Winston and Tyler Huntley in the offseason, so DTR is facing stiff competition for backup duties behind Deshaun Watson.

5h agoAli (biceps) is participating in some of the Ravens' minicamp drills and is expected to be fully recovered ahead of training camp, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.
The rookie fifth-round pick ruptured his biceps tendon at the Senior Bowl back in late January, but the Marshall product is expected to be fully recovered ahead of Baltimore's training camp in August. Ali is poised to compete for a pivotal role in the backfield, as J.K. Dobbins (Achilles) and Gus Edwards are now both with the Chargers and Keaton Mitchell (knee) is still recovering after tearing his ACL in December.

Ravens' Rasheen Ali: Hopeful for training camp
7h agoHead coach John Harbaugh indicated Saturday that he expects Ali (biceps) to be good to go in time for training camp, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.
Ali ruptured his biceps tendon at the Senior Bowl, but he was still selected by the Ravens in the fifth round of this year's draft. The intriguing prospect had multiple 1,000-yard seasons with Marshall, but he also missed nearly the entire 2022 campaign due to an MCL injury. When healthy, he projects to compete for a role providing depth in Baltimore's backfield behind Derrick Henry.

1d agoSeattle signed Torrence to a contract Friday, Howard Balzer of GoPHNX.com reports.
Torrence wasn't selected in the NFL Draft in late April but will get a shot to make his case for a roster or practice-squad spot after signing with the Seahawks. The 6-foot-3 defensive back played the final two seasons of college with Arizona State and totaled 37 tackles (including 2.0 sacks) along with an interception in 2023. Torrence allowed just 20 receptions in coverage last season, the lowest total among Pac-12 cornerbacks with at least 300 snaps played in coverage during the regular season.

Clarke Schmidt NYY SPYankees' Clarke Schmidt: Fans seven in third win
1m agoSchmidt (3-1) picked up the win Saturday, giving up three runs on four hits over five innings. He struck out seven without walking a batter.
The right-hander tied his season high in strikeouts while generating 33 called or swinging strikes among his 91 pitches. Schmidt has been remarkably consistent to begin the season, allowing between one and three runs in every start and completing five innings in six of seven outings, although he has yet to last a full six frames. He'll take a 3.50 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 41:13 K:BB through 36 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come next weekend in Tampa Bay.

13m agoKwan will undergo an MRI on his injured left hamstring Sunday, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Kwan tweaked the hamstring during Saturday's game against the Angels while making a play in the outfield. More should be known about a potential injured list stint and timetable following the exam. Kwan is off to an excellent start this season, slashing .353/.407/.496 over 32 games.

Craig Kimbrel BAL RPOrioles' Craig Kimbrel: Pulled from save situation
17m agoKimbrel was pulled from a save situation in the ninth inning of Saturday's game against the Reds. He allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out one batter in one-third of an inning.
The Cincinnati offense had been quiet all night until Kimbrel gave the home team some life in the bottom of the ninth. He allowed three of the four batters he faced to reach base, prompting the hook from manager Brandon Hyde. Yennier Cano took over and closed the door to earn his first save of the season. Kimbrel earned the save Friday in his return following a brief absence due to back tightness, but he had squandered back-to-back save chances before that and Saturday's slip-up puts him on notice with a high-end arm in Cano representing a viable alternative to Kimbrel in the ninth.

19m agoGreene went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Yankees.
The 23-year-old led off the game by taking Clarke Schmidt deep, giving Greene his third long ball in the last five contests and extending his hitting streak to seven games. The fifth overall pick in the 2019 Draft is beginning to live up to that pedigree, slashing .276/.401/.552 through 33 contests with eight homers, 16 RBI and 26 runs.

22m agoMize (1-1) took the loss Saturday against the Yankees, coughing up five runs on nine hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out six.
A three-run shot by Anthony Rizzo in the third inning accounted for most of the damage off Mize, but the right-hander put plenty of traffic on the basepaths. It was the first time this season he'd allowed more than three runs in a start, and Mize will take a 3.98 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 24:7 K:BB through 31.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Astros.

John Means BAL SPOrioles' John Means: Stellar in 2024 debut
29m agoMeans (1-0) earned the win over the Reds on Saturday, allowing three hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out eight without issuing a walk.
A setback with Means' surgically repaired left elbow put the southpaw on the injured list to begin the 2024 season. After an extended, six-start rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk, Means transitioned beautifully to the big-league rotation, blanking the Reds in Great American Ball Park while racking up 19 swings and misses on 85 pitches. The Cincinnati offense has been in a bad way, but regardless it was an impressive return for Means and he's fully built up heading into his next projected matchup at home against the Diamondbacks. An All-Star in 2019, Means has thrown a no-hitter in the majors and owns a 3.67 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 387.1 career innings over parts of seven seasons.

Murray went through his usual warmup for Game 1 and completed it with no setbacks, so the star floor general will be available to handle his regular workload in the series opener against Minnesota. Murray was stellar in the first round against the Lakers, hitting two game-winning shots and averaging 23.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game.

Allen has missed the last two games of the series while dealing with a rib injury, and the questionable tag doesn't shed a lot of light regarding his potential availability for the series finale. The Cavaliers need Allen to be at his best, though, as he's an influential piece of the team on both ends of the court. Allen is averaging 17.0 points, 13.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game in the first-round series against Orlando through four appearances.

After suffering his hamstring injury in Game 5, Harris missed his first game of the series on Friday in Game 6. If the veteran is unable to suit up Sunday, Jonathan Isaac could potentially make another start due to his defensive versatility.

6h agoBall (knee) has picked up the $21.4 million player option in his contract for the 2024-25 season, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Ball continues to work toward a potential comeback before he hits the open market next summer, as he signed an original four-year, $80 million free agent deal in 2021, so it was a no-brainer for him to pick up this option. Ball hasn't logged minutes at the NBA level since Jan. 2022, but both the player and the organization are hopeful he'll be able to step on the hardwood at some point during the 2024-25 campaign.

Matthews missed the last two games due to an undisclosed injury, according to Emily Kaplan of ESPN, after exiting Game 4 due to an illness. The 26-year-old forward has a goal, three points and 17 shots in four playoff outings this year. Matthews was immensely important to the Leafs' offense during the regular season, providing 69 goals and 107 points across 81 appearances. He should see time on the top power-play unit even though he will start Saturday's contest alongside Pontus Holmberg and Calle Jarnkrok at even strength.

3h agoSamsonov is expected to start on the road in Game 7 against Boston on Saturday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
Samsonov has struggled in the first round, allowing 12 goals on 103 shots (.883 save percentage) over four outings, which led to him being pulled in favor of Joseph Woll during Game 4. Although Toronto still lost that contest 3-1, which gave Boston a 3-1 series lead, the 25-year-old Woll would start in Games 5 and 6, earning two straight wins while saving 49 of 51 shots. However, Woll is dealing with an injury, so the Leafs will have to put their hopes in Samsonov for the deciding tilt of the series.

Heinen will miss his second straight game with the injury, though he was labeled a game-time decision earlier Saturday by head coach Jim Montgomery. If Heinen is to play again this postseason, the Bruins will need to win Saturday.

9h agoHague (lower body) won't play in Game 7 against Dallas on Sunday, Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Hague hasn't played since suffering the injury late in Game 1. The 25-year-old blueliner went scoreless in his final 20 regular-season contests this year -- he finished with two goals and 12 over 73 outings. Alec Martinez and Zach Whitecloud should round out Vegas' defensive corps while Hague is sidelined.
