49ers' Jacob Cowing: Surprise pick in San Fran
    1m ago

The 49ers selected Cowing in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 135th overall.

San Francisco is raising some eyebrows with its draft thus far, making Cowing its second receiver pick in the first four rounds. As the roster's currently constructed, Cowing is effectively blocked from seeing the field but some movement could change that outlook. As a player, Cowing is best described as an undersized playmaker at 5-foot-8, 168 pounds with 4.38 speed and strong college production. Cowing starred at UTEP with 1,354 yards and seven touchdowns in 2021, which put him on the Power 5 radar. He transferred to Arizona where he caught 20 touchdowns and recorded nearly 2,000 receiving yards in two seasons. The Tank Dell comparisons will follow him as a small and dynamic player out of the slot, but it will take time for him to live up to that in San Francisco as it stands.

Jets' Braelon Allen: Chance to back up Hall
    2m ago

The Jets selected Allen in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 134th overall.

Allen followed in the footsteps of Jonathan Taylor as a prolific rusher at Wisconsin. He totaled 3,494 yards on the ground across 35 games with the Badgers, but he didn't show much ability as a pass catcher, which was part of the reason he lasted until Round 4. The Jets will hope that Allen doesn't see much work in his rookie campaign, but he should have the chance to compete with Israel Abanikanda to back up Breece Hall.

Sione Vaki: Detroit adds in fourth round
    5m ago

The Lions selected Vaki in the fourth round of 2024 NFL Draft, 132nd overall.

Vaki (5-foot-11, 210 pounds) was a do-everything standout at Utah, where he thrived as both a safety and to a lesser extent at running back. Curiously, the Lions listed Vaki as a running back in the pick selection, but the presences of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery would seemingly indicate that there is little or no playing time up for grabs at running back. It might make sense for Detroit to therefore use Vaki as a two-way player the exact same way Utah did and basically call upon him in whichever capacity the situation might call for. If Vaki can earn playing time, there's reason to think he can produce on either offense or defense, though in terms of the depth chart he is probably far away from meaningful playing time in the short term.

Chiefs' Jaden Hicks: KC ends slide in Round 4
    7m ago

The Chiefs selected Hicks in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 133rd overall.

Deemed by many to be the top safety entering the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chiefs managed to snare Hicks with one of the final picks in the fourth round. A two-year starter at Washington State, the 6-foot-2 safety is probably more of a coverage option as opposed to a bruiser near the box, but he'll have time to grow in the secondary with the Chiefs already three-deep at safety.

Chiefs' Jared Wiley: Depth behind Kelce in KC
    11m ago

The Chiefs selected Wiley in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 131st overall.

Travis Kelce isn't going anywhere, but it makes sense for the Chiefs to add some depth behind the 34-year-old future Hall of Famer. Wiley was blocked from being a factor at Texas by fellow draftee Ja'Tavion Sanders. However, the former's transfer to TCU in 2022 put him on the map. Wiley caught four touchdowns that season, then got more involved as a senior with 47 grabs for 520 yards and eight scores. He has good speed (4.62) for his size (6-foot-6) and will be able to develop behind one of the best to ever do it. Dynasty players should note that Wiley will turn 24 as a rookie, however.

Ravens' T.J. Tampa: Good value for Baltimore
    13m ago

The Ravens selected Tampa in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 130th overall.

Tampa is an excellent athlete, as he played wide receiver in high school and also got scholarship offers to play basketball at the collegiate level. He produced well as an upperclassman at Iowa State, posting 19 passes defensed and three picks across his final 24 collegiate games. Tampa is known as a quick corner with good size and was projected to go Day 2 of the draft. Instead, he'll have the chance to provide late-round value to a Baltimore secondary that was due for some depth -- potentially even finding his way onto the field as a rookie.

Blue Jays' Brandon Barriera: Needs left elbow surgery
    8m ago

Barriera is set to undergo left elbow surgery, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

Barriera has been on the 7-day injured list with Single-A Dunedin after sustaining a left elbow injury April 6. It's unclear whether the operation will be for Tommy John surgery or an internal brace, but Mitchell notes that the left-hander will be out for at least 10 months. Barriera was taken by the Blue Jays in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft. The southpaw posted a 4.42 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over six starts with Dunedin in 2023.

Orioles' Kyle Bradish: Set to rejoin rotation
    23m ago

Manager Brandon Hyde said Saturday that Bradish (elbow) is returning to the to the Orioles' rotation, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.

Bradish's return to the starting rotation couldn't come soon enough for the Orioles with John Means (forearm) and Tyler Wells (elbow) both on the 15-day IL. Bradish made three rehab starts while progressing through a right UCL sprain that landed him on the 15-day injured list at the beginning of the season. He pitched well in his last rehab outing with Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out six over five frames, and the 27-year-old is ready to make his next start in the majors. The right-hander could rejoin Baltimore as part of a six-man rotation, with Hyde noting that "everything is up on the table right now."

Bucks' Damian Lillard: Game 4 in doubt
    1h ago

Lillard suffered a strained Achilles in Friday's loss to the Pacers and there is serious doubt over his availability for Game 4 on Sunday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Lillard was able to return to Game 3 after suffering the injury and finished the contest with 28 points (6-20 FG, 4-12 3Pt, 12-12 FT), eight assists, three steals and one rebound over 45 minutes. Final confirmation on his status Sunday will presumably come closer to game time. AJ Green, Andre Jackson and Malik Beasley would all be candidates to see increased minutes alongside Patrick Beverley in the backcourt should Lillard indeed need to sit out.

Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Does not practice Saturday
    2h ago

Robinson (ankle) was a non-participant at Saturday's practice, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports.

Robinson was seen wearing a walking boot on his sprained left ankle following an early exit in Thursday's 125-114 loss to the 76ers. He had accumulated two points (1-3 FG, 0-2 FT) and seven rebounds across 12 minutes before leaving. His absence from Saturdays' practice is not a good sign for his status for Sunday's Game 4, but the team has not ruled the big man out. If he ultimately does not get the green light, Precious Achiuwa figures to serve as the primary backup behind Isaiah Hartenstein.

Suns' Devin Booker: Delivers eight dimes in Game 3 loss

Booker accumulated 23 points (8-15 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 6-6 FT), three rebounds, eight assists and two steals in 42 minutes during Friday's 126-109 loss to the Timberwolves in Game 3 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Booker finished just two assists away from recording a double-double in Game 3, and the star guard will need to be at his best Sunday if the Suns want to avoid getting swept in the first round. Booker's scoring numbers have increased with each passing game in the series, though this was the first time he surpassed the 20-point plateau.

Suns' Bradley Beal: Scores team-high 28 points Friday
    3h ago

Beal finished Friday's 126-109 loss to the Timberwolves in Game 3 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs with 28 points (10-19 FG, 6-11 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds and four assists in 43 minutes.

Beal led the Suns in scoring Friday, but as has been the case throughout the series, Phoenix simply hasn't been able to hang on with the Timberwolves throughout an entire game, which explains the 0-3 deficit the Suns are currently in right now. This was the first team Beal surpassed the 15-point mark in the series, and the veteran guard will need to keep the momentum going for Game 4 on Sunday if the Suns want to avoid getting swept in the first round.

Suns' Kevin Durant: Puts up 25 points in loss Friday
    3h ago

Durant had 25 points (8-18 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 8-9 FT), four rebounds and five assists across 42 minutes during Friday's 126-109 loss to Minnesota in Game 3 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Durant bounced back from a subpar showing in Game 2, at least for his lofty standards, and he had a strong showing in Game 3, but once again, his contributions were not enough to lift the Suns to victory as Phoenix fell into an 0-3 deficit. Durant will need to be at his best if the Suns want to avoid the sweep in Game 4 on Sunday. He's averaging 24.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in the series.

Gobert's scoring numbers have increased with each passing game in the series, though the increased offensive responsibility in Game 3 was directly related to Karl-Anthony Towns being limited with foul trouble. Gobert also has two double-doubles in three games during he current series, averaging 17.0 points and 13.0 boards per contest.
