3h agoThe Cardinals have opted not to pick up Collins' fifth-year option, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.
This move is somewhat of a surprise, as Collins' started all 33 games he has played the previous two seasons, and he projects to continue starting at defensive end in 2024. He did see his production decrease this past year in the tackle department, dropping from 100 (63) in 2022 to 41 (27 solo) in 2023. The 24-year-old is now heading into a contract year and will look to prove his value accordingly.

Boston Scott PHI RBRams' Boston Scott: Fresh start in LA
3h agoScott agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Rams on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Scott spent his first six seasons in Philadelphia, but he will now get a fresh start in Los Angeles. While he was never a major part of the Eagles' offense during his tenure, he saw his role as a third-down back shrink during the 2023 campaign. The 29-year-old will presumably be behind Kyren Williams and rookie Blake Corum on the Rams' depth chart, and Scott will compete with Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans for the No. 3 role.

Davis spent most of the 2023 season on Arizona's practice squad. The Cardinals drafted a pair of wideouts in last week's NFL Draft, so Davis will look for work elsewhere.

5h agoFollowing the 2024 NFL Draft, Stidham is joined in the Broncos' QB room by newcomer Zach Wilson, along with No. 12 overall pick Bo Nix, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
After the Broncos released Russell Wilson last month, it was inevitable that they would add QB depth to join Stidham, who started Denver's final two contests last season. While Nix is no doubt being groomed as the team's future starter, it remains to be seen if he'll step into that role immediately. Until then, Stidham and Wilson will presumably both have an opportunity to compete for the No. 1 role, but neither veteran signal-caller profiles as a high-value fantasy option in either re-draft or dynasty formats.

James Conner ARI RBCardinals' James Conner: Leader of improved backfield
5h agoRookie third-round pick Trey Benson is unlikely to take Conner's starting job but may eventually force a timeshare in the Cardinals' backfield, according to KC Joyner of The Athletic.
Conner has missed multiple games in each of his seven NFL seasons, though never more than six in any one year, so any competition for touches could sort itself out. His 2023 included career highs for rushing yards (1,040) and yards per carry (5.0), with the downside being his fewest targets (33) and catches (27, 2.1 per game) since he was a barely-used rookie with Pittsburgh in 2017. The lack of receiving volume was partially a product of Emari Demercado getting playing time in passing situations, and it's worth noting that the Cardinals have two other backs in Michael Carter, DeeJay Dallas with track records as passing-down specialists. That said, Conner still figures to be the starter and lead runner, with Benson being the main threat to poach carries and TDs even if other guys are in the mix on passing downs.

5h agoThe Packers drafted MarShawn Lloyd in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft to join Jacobs and AJ Dillon in their remade backfield, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic report.
The decision to release Aaron Jones and sign Jacobs as a replacement likely had a lot to do with the latter being younger, larger and more capable of handling big workloads. It's nonetheless a bit difficult to project Jacobs' touch/snap counts for the upcoming season, as coach Matt LaFleur has almost always used a two-back approach when he's had his top two RBs healthy. On the other hand, there were many instances when LaFleur leaned heavily on Jones or Dillon, or Jamaal Williams before that, when one of Green Bay's top backs wasn't available, rather than giving a third-stringer a larger role. The extent of Jacobs' usage may depend on LaFleur's confidence in Dillon and/or Lloyd moreso than Jacobs' perceived ability to take on huge workloads. Dillon plodded through 2023 and has seen his YPC drop each of his seasons in the NFL, while Lloyd looks faster and more explosive but comes with glaring ball-security issues after fumbling eight times on 325 touches during his college career.

3m agoMorel went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Mets.
The steal was his second of the season, and both pilfers have come in his last eight contests. Morel is struggling to get going with his bat however, and through 29 games he's slashing a meager .215/.292/.374 with four homers, 14 RBI and 17 runs.

Tyler Holton DET RPTigers' Tyler Holton: Snags second win
5m agoHolton (2-0) allowed a run on a hit and a walk but managed to earn the win in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.
Spot starter Matt Manning only covered 4.2 innings, so Holton walked into a win by coming out of the bullpen first in the 11-6 victory. While the 2-0 record is nice, the lefty has been uneven with a 5.40 ERA so far, and he's already allowed three home runs across 13.1 innings after allowing only nine long balls in 85.1 innings last season. Holton posted a strong 2.11 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in 2023 as well, so if he can keep the ball in the yard moving forward, he figures to find a bit more success.

Javier Assad CHC SPCubs' Javier Assad: Stingy in no-decision Tuesday
6m agoAssad came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Mets, allowing one run on five hits over five innings. He struck out one without walking a batter.
The 26-year-old righty didn't allow much hard contact, as all five hits off him were singles, and Assad tossed 55 of 78 pitches for strikes before leaving the mound with the score tied 1-1. He's had an impressive start to his campaign, and Assad will take a 1.97 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 27:9 K:BB through 32 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Brewers.

Wenceel Perez DET RFTigers' Wenceel Perez: Belts two homers in nightcap
11m agoPerez went 3-for-4 with a walk, two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI in an 11-6 win over the Cardinals during the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader.
After going 0-for-4 in the matinee, Perez led the charge for Detroit in the nightcap, launching a solo shot off Steven Matz in the second inning before belting a two-run shot in the fifth off Ryan Fernandez that put the Tigers in the lead for good. Perez has three homers in 15 games since his promotion, and they've all come in the last three games. The sudden power surge has pushed his slash line to .302/.375/.628 with two steals, seven runs and eight RBI.

12m agoGreene went 4-for-9 with a double, two home runs and three total RBI across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.
Greene provided all of Detroit's offense with a solo home run in the first game Tuesday, a 2-1 loss, but he really got going in the nightcap. He collected three hits in the 11-6 win, including a double and another homer, his seventh of the season. The talented young outfielder has pushed his OPS up to a robust .912, and the sky is the limit for Greene the rest of the way if he manages to stay healthy.

Matt Manning DET SPTigers' Matt Manning: Fans seven in spot start
15m agoManning came away with a no-decision in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings in an 11-6 win. He struck out seven.
The right-hander got spotted a 4-0 lead early, but Manning fell apart in the fifth inning and exited after 89 pitches (63 strikes). Tuesday's effort was the shortest of his three spot starts this season, and while he's pitched reasonably well when given the opportunity, Detroit doesn't have a more permanent opening in its rotation for him right now. Manning will likely head back to Triple-A Toledo with a 4.24 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17:8 K:BB through 17 big-league innings.

36m agoHarris is out for the remainder of Tuesday's game versus the Cavaliers due to a right hamstring strain, Cody Taylor of USA Today reports. He will end the contest with zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt) and two blocks in 19 minutes.
In Harris' absence, Markell Fultz, Cole Anthony and Anthony Black are all candidates to receive increased playing time. Harris' next chance to suit up is Game 6 on Friday.

Lillard will miss his second straight contest Tuesday after being downgraded from doubtful to out with a right Achilles strain. Malik Beasley will likely draw another start in his absence. If Milwaukee is able to win Game 5, Lillard's next chance to suit up will come in Game 6 on Thursday.
