5m agoThe Browns signed Allen on Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Allen spent the first six seasons of his career with the Rams but was released in a cap move earlier this offseason. He has 50 games -- 32 starts -- of experience and gives Cleveland some valuable depth on the interior of its offensive line. He should compete with 2022 seventh-rounder Dawson Deaton for top backup duties behind starting center Ethan Pocic.

10m agoThe Browns exercised Newsome's 2025 fifth-year option, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The 26th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Newsome had a breakout season under Browns DC Jim Schwartz in 2023. He started 13 of the 14 games he appeared in, picking off the first two passes of his career while breaking up 14 passes in coverage. Newsome also registered a career-best 49 tackles (34 solo) and returned one of his interceptions for a touchdown.

15m agoDobbins (Achilles) said he feels 100 percent healthy entering the offseason program, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
"I've had these injuries, and it's been a storm," Dobbins said. "But I think the storm is over with, and I think I'm going to take off now. There's going to be no setbacks, and the 'injury prone' thing will be gone out of the window." Since being drafted in the second round in 2020, Dobbins has missed a whopping 43 games to various significant injuries, including a torn ACL, torn LCL, severe hamstring strain and a torn Achilles' tendon. To say the "injury prone" stuff is out the window is a bit of wishful thinking by Dobbins, as his body has yet to cooperate with him up to this point. Dobbins is still just 25 years old, but the injuries have piled up on him. He and Gus Edwards are expected to key new Chargers OC Greg Roman's run-first offense.

Slye inked with Jacksonville as a free agent back in March, but he's now lost his spot on the roster to rookie sixth-round pick Cam Little. Meanwhile, Riley Patterson remains with the Jaguars as potential offseason competition for Little. Slye converted 19 of 24 field-goal tries and 32 of 35 extra-point attempts across 17 games with Washington last season.

Jones' release comes shortly following Jacksonville's selection of rookie Brian Thomas in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The 29-year-old missed all but nine games last season due to a PCL injury, and despite now being healthy, his release saves the Jaguars a notable $4.2 million in cap space. In addition to Thomas, Christian Kirk and Gabe Davis round out Trevor Lawrence's clear top three wideouts, while Jones will work to find a landing spot elsewhere in the league.

7h agoPearsall may not see the field often as a rookie after being drafted by the 49ers, who have all three starting wideouts returning for 2024, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
San Francisco's selection of Pearsall at the tail end of the first round of the draft came as a bit of a surprise, both in terms of draft slot and roster build. The 49ers still have all three of their starting WRs from last year, and Pearsall was mostly projected as a Day 2 pick rather than Day 1. Perhaps the front office drafted the Florida product with an eye on next offseason, at which point WRs Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings are expected to hit free agency and Deebo Samuel will be entering the final year of his contract. Pearsall is an explosive talent with a good chance to put up fantasy-worthy numbers at some point during his career; it just may not happen right off the bat in a loaded 49ers offense.

Vientos contributed a walk-off home run in Sunday's extra-innings win over the Cardinals but now finds himself back in the minors as Starling Marte returns to the active roster. With J.D. Martinez with the club and Brett Baty absorbing most of the at-bats at third base, there's no path to regular playing time for Vientos right now.

Hardaway suffered a setback during Tuesday's post-practice scrimmage and will miss a third straight contest after spraining his right ankle during Game 2. In Hardaway's absence, Josh Green and Dante Exum are candidates for a few extra minutes off the bench.

40m agoJaquez has been ruled out for Wednesday's Game 5 against the Celtics due to a hip flexor strain, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Jaquez initially went to the locker room during the first half of Game 4 after experiencing tightness in his hip but quickly returned to action. However, he was sidelined for the entire fourth quarter and finished with only nine points and two boards in 22 minutes. With Jaquez joining Terry Rozier (neck) and Jimmy Butler (knee) on the sidelines for the potential elimination game, Delon Wright, Patty Mills, Haywood Highsmith, Kevin Love and Duncan Robinson are candidates for increased roles.

2h agoCoach Tyronn Lue said Tuesday that Leonard (knee) will not play in Game 5 versus the Mavericks on Wednesday, NBA writer Marc Stein reports.
Lue made this announcement shortly after saying Leonard wouldn't be doing anything at all during Tuesday's practice. Leonard clearly didn't have much mobility in Games 2 and 3, and it's unclear when he'll be able to return. Based on previous reports, the Clippers will need to see Leonard's knee inflammation improve before giving him the green light.

Clippers' Kawhi Leonard: Won't practice Tuesday
2h agoCoach Tyronn Lue said Leonard (knee) will not do anything at practice Tuesday, Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.com reports.
After sitting out Game 1 due to inflammation in his right knee, Leonard played in Games 2 and 3, but he looked like a shell of himself with limited mobility. Leonard was held out of Game 4 on Sunday, and it would be a big surprise if he could play Wednesday based on how the forward is trending. If Leonard is indeed held out, Amir Coffey would be a candidate to see an increased role.

2h agoProsper (ankle) has been ruled out for Wednesday's Game 5 against the Clippers, Mike Curtis of The Detroit News reports.
Prosper will miss a third straight game due to a left ankle sprain. He played only one minute during Game 1 and didn't see the court in Game 2, so his prolonged absence hasn't impacted Dallas' rotation.

Bear logged 24 games for Washington this season in which he registered one goal and three assists while averaging a career-low 14:54 of ice time. With one year remaining on his contract, Bear should be back with Washington next season, though he may be hard-pressed to force his way into the lineup on a nightly basis.

Per Batchelor, the starting goaltender for the Canucks will be a game-time decision. Due to the absences of DeSmith and Thatcher Demko (knee), Arturs Silovs made his NHL playoff debut in Game 4, stopping 27 shots in Sunday's 4-3 overtime victory over the Predators. If DeSmith doesn't start Tuesday, Silovs will probably be between the pipes.

1h agoBackstrom (hip) is expected to spend the 2024-25 campaign on long-term injured reserve, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports Tuesday.
Backstrom managed just eight games this year before being forced to miss the remainder of the season on LTIR. At this point, Backstrom's career appears to be over, with the center essentially riding out the final year of his contract. That being the case, Backstrom will eventually retire having played in 1105 games, all for the Capitals, in which he racked up 271 goals and 762 assists over the course of 17 seasons.

Namestnikov suffered a fractured cheekbone in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Avalanche in Game 4. He has one goal, four shots on net and eight hits in four appearances this postseason. With Namestnikov unavailable and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby serving as a healthy scratch, Cole Perfetti and David Gustafsson will draw into the lineup for Tuesday's Game 5 matchup.

4h agoWoll will guard the road net Tuesday in Game 5 against Boston, according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.
Woll will make his first start this postseason after Ilya Samsonov went 1-3 with a 3.31 GAA and an .883 save percentage in the opening four contests of the series. The 25-year-old Woll stopped all five shots he faced during Saturday's relief appearance in Game 4. He posted a mark of 0-2-1 versus the Bruins during the 2023-24 regular season, surrendering 12 goals on 89 shots. The Maple Leafs need a win in Game 5 to force Game 6 back in Toronto on Thursday.

4h agoHellebuyck will guard the home crease against Colorado in Game 5 on Tuesday, per Ken Wiebe of The Winnipeg Free Press.
Hellebuyck has lost three straight games, so he and the Jets will be facing elimination Tuesday. He's recorded a sub-par .870 save percentage and has allowed 13 goals in that span. Hellebuyck has yet to log a save percentage above .872 in any of the first four games of the series -- he'll likely need to be better in Game 5 in order for Winnipeg to have a chance to force Game 6.
