29m agoThe Browns signed Allen on Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Allen spent the first six seasons of his career with the Rams but was released in a cap move earlier this offseason. He has 50 games -- 32 starts -- of experience and gives Cleveland some valuable depth on the interior of its offensive line. He should compete with 2022 seventh-rounder Dawson Deaton for top backup duties behind starting center Ethan Pocic.

33m agoThe Browns exercised Newsome's 2025 fifth-year option, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The 26th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Newsome had a breakout season under Browns DC Jim Schwartz in 2023. He started 13 of the 14 games he appeared in, picking off the first two passes of his career while breaking up 14 passes in coverage. Newsome also registered a career-best 49 tackles (34 solo) and returned one of his interceptions for a touchdown.

39m agoDobbins (Achilles) said he feels 100 percent healthy entering the offseason program, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
"I've had these injuries, and it's been a storm," Dobbins said. "But I think the storm is over with, and I think I'm going to take off now. There's going to be no setbacks, and the 'injury prone' thing will be gone out of the window." Since being drafted in the second round in 2020, Dobbins has missed a whopping 43 games to various significant injuries, including a torn ACL, torn LCL, severe hamstring strain and a torn Achilles' tendon. To say the "injury prone" stuff is out the window is a bit of wishful thinking by Dobbins, as his body has yet to cooperate with him up to this point. Dobbins is still just 25 years old, but the injuries have piled up on him. He and Gus Edwards are expected to key new Chargers OC Greg Roman's run-first offense.

Slye inked with Jacksonville as a free agent back in March, but he's now lost his spot on the roster to rookie sixth-round pick Cam Little. Meanwhile, Riley Patterson remains with the Jaguars as potential offseason competition for Little. Slye converted 19 of 24 field-goal tries and 32 of 35 extra-point attempts across 17 games with Washington last season.

6h agoThe Jaguars released Jones on Tuesday.
Jones' release comes shortly following Jacksonville's selection of rookie Brian Thomas in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The 29-year-old missed all but nine games last season due to a PCL injury, and despite now being healthy, his release saves the Jaguars a notable $4.2 million in cap space. In addition to Thomas, Christian Kirk and Gabe Davis round out Trevor Lawrence's clear top three wideouts, while Jones will work to find a landing spot elsewhere in the league.

7h agoPearsall may not see the field often as a rookie after being drafted by the 49ers, who have all three starting wideouts returning for 2024, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
San Francisco's selection of Pearsall at the tail end of the first round of the draft came as a bit of a surprise, both in terms of draft slot and roster build. The 49ers still have all three of their starting WRs from last year, and Pearsall was mostly projected as a Day 2 pick rather than Day 1. Perhaps the front office drafted the Florida product with an eye on next offseason, at which point WRs Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings are expected to hit free agency and Deebo Samuel will be entering the final year of his contract. Pearsall is an explosive talent with a good chance to put up fantasy-worthy numbers at some point during his career; it just may not happen right off the bat in a loaded 49ers offense.

Burger has been upping his workouts and is ready to play in some games now. The infielder has been on the shelf for the last two weeks with a left intercostal strain. Burger shouldn't need too many rehab games before rejoining the Marlins' active roster.

11m agoCooper is starting at first base and batting seventh Tuesday against the Giants, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
The 33-year-old was acquired from the Cubs over the week and will make his debut for the Red Sox on Tuesday. Cooper had a .270/.341/.432 slash line in 41 plate appearances for Chicago and should see plenty of playing time at first base while Tristan Casas (ribs) is sidelined.

14m agoJefferies is expected to start Wednesday's game in Boston, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The Giants have yet to announce their scheduled starter for Wednesday, but Jefferies was spotted in the clubhouse at Fenway Park on Tuesday. Jefferies is starting in place of Blake Snell (intercostal) and could earn additional starts with Snell expected to be out a while. He was torched for nine runs (five earned) over two innings in a spot start earlier this season.

The 30-year-old suffered a left hand injury during Sunday's win over the Cubs and needs a bit more time to recover coming off Monday's scheduled team day. It's unclear if Yoshida will be available off the bench, and he should be considered day-to-day. Tyler O'Neill will receive a turn at designated hitter while Rob Refsnyder starts in left field.

9m agoBogdanovic will undergo season-ending surgeries on his left foot and left wrist, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Bogdanovic was playing through ligament damage in his left wrist but suffered a left foot injury during his first minute in Game 4 and was already ruled out for Game 5. The sharpshooter was traded to the Knicks at the deadline and averaged 10.4 points in 19.1 minutes across his final 29 regular-season appearances. However, Bogdanovic struggled in limited action during the opening-round series against Philadelphia, as he averaged 8.0 points on 29.2 percent shooting in 16.3 minutes over the first three matchups. He has one more year remaining on his current contract.

Hardaway suffered a setback during Tuesday's post-practice scrimmage and will miss a third straight contest after spraining his right ankle during Game 2. In Hardaway's absence, Josh Green and Dante Exum are candidates for a few extra minutes off the bench.

1h agoJaquez has been ruled out for Wednesday's Game 5 against the Celtics due to a hip flexor strain, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Jaquez initially went to the locker room during the first half of Game 4 after experiencing tightness in his hip but quickly returned to action. However, he was sidelined for the entire fourth quarter and finished with only nine points and two boards in 22 minutes. With Jaquez joining Terry Rozier (neck) and Jimmy Butler (knee) on the sidelines for the potential elimination game, Delon Wright, Patty Mills, Haywood Highsmith, Kevin Love and Duncan Robinson are candidates for increased roles.

2h agoCoach Tyronn Lue said Tuesday that Leonard (knee) will not play in Game 5 versus the Mavericks on Wednesday, NBA writer Marc Stein reports.
Lue made this announcement shortly after saying Leonard wouldn't be doing anything at all during Tuesday's practice. Leonard clearly didn't have much mobility in Games 2 and 3, and it's unclear when he'll be able to return. Based on previous reports, the Clippers will need to see Leonard's knee inflammation improve before giving him the green light.

2h agoCoach Tyronn Lue said Leonard (knee) will not do anything at practice Tuesday, Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.com reports.
After sitting out Game 1 due to inflammation in his right knee, Leonard played in Games 2 and 3, but he looked like a shell of himself with limited mobility. Leonard was held out of Game 4 on Sunday, and it would be a big surprise if he could play Wednesday based on how the forward is trending. If Leonard is indeed held out, Amir Coffey would be a candidate to see an increased role.

16m agoKiviranta (lower body) will not be an option against the Jets in game 5 on Tuesday, per NHL.com.
Kiviranta did make the trip with the team to Winnipeg, so he appears to be getting close to returning. In his three postseason contests, the 28-year-old winger registered one assist, three shots and nine hits while averaging 10:14 of ice time. Even once given the all-clear, Kiviranta is far from a lock for the lineup but should be in the mix for a bottom-six role.

1h agoBear (personal) has been cleared by the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports Tuesday.
Bear logged 24 games for Washington this season in which he registered one goal and three assists while averaging a career-low 14:54 of ice time. With one year remaining on his contract, Bear should be back with Washington next season, though he may be hard-pressed to force his way into the lineup on a nightly basis.

Per Batchelor, the starting goaltender for the Canucks will be a game-time decision. Due to the absences of DeSmith and Thatcher Demko (knee), Arturs Silovs made his NHL playoff debut in Game 4, stopping 27 shots in Sunday's 4-3 overtime victory over the Predators. If DeSmith doesn't start Tuesday, Silovs will probably be between the pipes.

1h agoBackstrom (hip) is expected to spend the 2024-25 campaign on long-term injured reserve, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports Tuesday.
Backstrom managed just eight games this year before being forced to miss the remainder of the season on LTIR. At this point, Backstrom's career appears to be over, with the center essentially riding out the final year of his contract. That being the case, Backstrom will eventually retire having played in 1105 games, all for the Capitals, in which he racked up 271 goals and 762 assists over the course of 17 seasons.

Namestnikov suffered a fractured cheekbone in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Avalanche in Game 4. He has one goal, four shots on net and eight hits in four appearances this postseason. With Namestnikov unavailable and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby serving as a healthy scratch, Cole Perfetti and David Gustafsson will draw into the lineup for Tuesday's Game 5 matchup.

4h agoWoll will guard the road net Tuesday in Game 5 against Boston, according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.
Woll will make his first start this postseason after Ilya Samsonov went 1-3 with a 3.31 GAA and an .883 save percentage in the opening four contests of the series. The 25-year-old Woll stopped all five shots he faced during Saturday's relief appearance in Game 4. He posted a mark of 0-2-1 versus the Bruins during the 2023-24 regular season, surrendering 12 goals on 89 shots. The Maple Leafs need a win in Game 5 to force Game 6 back in Toronto on Thursday.
