8m agoSmall is slated to sign with the Titans as an undrafted free agent, Nick Suss of the Nashville Tennessean reports.

Sam Darnold MIN QB
Vikings' Sam Darnold: Vikings won't rush to name starting QB
14h agoThe Vikings could begin the season with Darnold as the team's starting quarterback despite taking J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, ESPN reports. "We're not going to rush his development," said general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. "We're just going to do what's best for the Vikings in the short and long term."
Darnold signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Vikings as a short-term veteran starter or backup. It's hard to handicap when McCarthy may take over the starting job this soon after the draft, but it's notable the Vikings are trying to reduce expectations. Expect the quarterback battle for the Week 1 starting job to commence this summer. Still, odds are Darnold will only be the starter for a few weeks at most if McCarthy is healthy and making progress.

"Tulu" stands at 5-foot-10 and 181 pounds and ran a 4.43 forty at the combine after leading Mississippi State in receiving with a 50-658-4 line as a senior. His main selling point for the Raiders could be his returner skills after he showed some electricity with the ball in his hands during college.

Raiders' Carter Bradley: Finds work with Las Vegas

Tylor Megill NYM SP
Mets' Tylor Megill: Set for second rehab start Thursday
4m agoMegill (shoulder) is scheduled to make the second start of his minor-league rehab assignment Thursday with Double-A Binghamton, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
On the shelf since April 1 with a right shoulder strain, Megill appears to be nearing the finish line of his recovery process after he began in his rehab assignment Saturday with High-A Brooklyn. Megill struck out six over two perfect innings with Brooklyn, but he'll move up a rung on the minor-league ladder and look to build up his pitch count to around 60 when he takes the mound again Thursday. After his upcoming outing with Binghamton, Megill will likely require one more rehab start beyond that before being deemed ready to rejoin the Mets rotation.

David Peterson NYM SP
Mets' David Peterson: Kicks off rehab assignment
7m agoPeterson (hip) will begin a rehab assignment Sunday with Single-A St. Lucie, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Peterson will likely be in store for a light workload as he begins his rehab assignment and makes his first appearance in affiliated ball Sept. 28, 2023. The southpaw, who underwent left hip surgery over the offseason, is on the Mets' 60-day injured list and is expected to be built up slowly over the next month before he's eligible for activation beginning May 27. Peterson's performance during the rehab assignment as well as the state of New York's rotation by late May will likely determine whether he takes back a starting spot upon his return or is eased back into the mix as a multi-inning reliever.

Jose Cisnero LAA RP

Jonathan Bowlan KC RP
Royals' Jonathan Bowlan: Entering big-league rotation
12m agoThe Royals are planning to call up Bowlan from Triple-A Omaha on Monday to start the club's series opener in Toronto, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.
Bowlan will be entering the big-league rotation as a replacement for Alec Marsh (elbow), who was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday. The 27-year-old right-hander previously made a spot start among his two appearances with Kansas City in 2023, but Monday will mark his 2024 MLB debut. Over 21 innings at Omaha this season, Bowlan has submitted a 2.57 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB.

Max Meyer MIA SP
Marlins' Max Meyer: Makes four-inning start at Triple-A
19m agoMeyer worked four innings in his start Saturday for Triple-A Jacksonville, striking out two while giving up four earned runs on six hits and no walks.
Meyer's results in his second start with Jacksonville were less noteworthy than the fact that he pitched at all for the Triple-A club, as the organization's decision to have him take the hill this weekend suggests that he isn't viewed as a candidate to fill the rotation spot at the big-league level that recently opened up when Jesus Luzardo (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Despite Meyer's success in his three outings with the big club earlier this season (2.12 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB in 17 innings), the Marlins seem committed to keeping him on a once-a-week pitching schedule in the minors wherein he makes abbreviated starts, as the organization is keen on managing his 2024 workload coming off his August 2022 Tommy John surgery. Meyer is expected to rejoin the big-league rotation at some point in the second half of the season, though he could still operate under some restrictions with his innings or pitch counts at that time.

1h agoCoffey will start Sunday's Game 4 against Dallas, Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.com reports.
With Kawhi Leonard (knee) sidelined, Coffey drew a start in Game 1 and posted six points and three rebounds in 25 minutes. He moved back to the bench for Games 2 and 3, but Leonard has been shut down again after a pair of subpar performances. Kawhi Leonard LAC SF
Clippers' Kawhi Leonard: Out indefinitely
1h agoLeonard (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's Game 4 against the Mavericks and will be sidelined indefinitely, Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.com reports.
Due to inflammation in his surgically repaired right knee, Leonard missed the Clippers' Game 1 win, which allowed Amir Coffey to draw a start. The superstar returned for Game 2 and posted 15 points (7-17 FG), seven rebounds and four steals in 35 minutes during the loss. He played only 25 minutes during Los Angeles Game 3 loss and finished with nine points (4-7 FG) and nine rebounds. Clippers president Lawrence Frank said shutting Leonard down was a move the organization made to ensure Leonard's future health, per Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News.
