Max Melton 2005 CB
Cardinals' Max Melton: Heads to Arizona in second round
5m agoThe Cardinals selected Melton in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 43rd overall.
Brother of Bo Melton, Max Melton plays on the other side of the ball and was a terror in the Rutgers secondary for four years. He leaves Piscataway with eight career interceptions and 30 career pass breakups. Melton possesses sub-4.4 speed (4.39) and has the physicality to play press-man coverage at the next level. He has a chance to start either as a nickel or outside as a rookie.

Kamari Lassiter 2005 CB
Texans' Kamari Lassiter: Heads to Lone Star State
10m agoThe Texans selected Lassiter in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 42nd overall.
Lassiter (6-feet, 186 pounds) was a productive player on a strong Georgia defense, but it's difficult to recall the last time a cornerback was drafted this high with athletic testing as poor as Lassiter's. More specifically, Lassiter's 4.65-second 40-yard time at his pro day is bad even by safety standards, let alone a cornerback who's thin and with short arms (30 and 7/8-inches). Lassiter's short-area movement is very good, as evidenced by his elite 6.62-second three-cone drill, but he might need the Houston pass rush to hurry the quarterback before wideouts get the chance to take Lassiter downfield. Be it in the slot or on the boundary, the Texans clearly have immediate plans for Lassiter after drafting him this high.

Kool-Aid McKinstry 2005 CB
Saints' Kool-Aid McKinstry: Big Easy bound
13m agoThe Saints selected McKinstry (foot) in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 41st overall.
If not for a foot injury that was discovered at the NFL Combine and prevented him from testing, McKinstry might have gone much earlier. He's a well-built boundary corner at 6-foot, 199 pounds with 32-inch arms, and he started 33 games in three years at Alabama. He broke up an impressive 16 passes as a sophomore, and though he only had two career picks, his coverage ability and his willingness in run support both stand out. McKinstry should challenge for boundary reps as a rookie provided his foot is back to 100 percent by camp.
-
Cooper DeJean 2005 CB
Eagles' Cooper DeJean: Philadelphia-bound in second round
18m agoThe Eagles selected DeJean in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 40th overall.
DeJean was widely viewed as a viable first-round pick after an impressive Iowa career, so if his draft fall was unwarranted, then this could prove a steal for the Eagles. Philadelphia went into the draft with major concerns at cornerback, but between the selections of DeJean and first-round corner Quinyon Mitchell those worries are basically gone now. Mitchell is mostly a boundary corner, whereas DeJean (6-foot-1, 202 pounds) is more of a safety tweener who figures to hold a greater slot presence than on the outside. In addition to immediately competing for snaps in the slot and at safety, DeJean might get some punt-return work after returning one punt and three interceptions for touchdowns in college.

Braden Fiske 2005 DL
Rams' Braden Fiske: Joins college teammate in LA
23m agoThe Rams selected Fiske in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 39th overall.
Los Angeles continues to rebuild its defensive front by way of Tallahassee, nabbing a second Florida State pass rusher in as many picks. Fiske is a taller and lighter interior lineman (6-foot-4, 292 pounds) who put himself on the second-round radar at the NFL Combine by turning out an unbelievable workout for his size. He ran a 4.78 in the 40 and recorded one of the best broad jumps for a defensive tackle in years (117 inches). Fiske probably lacks the size to be a top run-stuffer, but he had 16 sacks and 29 tackles for loss over his final three seasons at Western Michigan and Florida State. His length -- he's been measured with 31-inch arms -- was a concern for some, but apparently not for the Rams.
-
T'Vondre Sweat 2005 DL
Titans' T'Vondre Sweat: Tennessee picks up in second round
27m agoThe Titans selected Sweat in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 38th overall.
Sweat was generally expected to go later than this, especially after a DWI arrest earlier in April, but the Texas defensive tackle is probably talented enough to justify the selection. At 6-foot-5, 366 pounds, Sweat is the type of enormous prospect that only shows up every five years or so, and at that size, he will always be more of a gap-holding presence than one that splits them for tackles in the backfield. With that said, Sweat seems unusually nimble and flexible for such a gigantic lineman, and he should be the kind of player who shows up on tape even if he's not the defender specifically making the tackle.

Alex Cobb SF SP
Giants' Alex Cobb: Pauses throwing program
1h agoCobb (hip/elbow/shoulder) has been held back from throwing for the last few days due to soreness in his right shoulder, and he is set to see a team doctor Friday night, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.comreports.
Cobb was shifted to the 60-day IL on April 20 to give him more time to recover from his multiple ailments. He underwent left hip surgery in the offseason and was progressing through his rehab assignment following spring training, but he has suffered another setback with right shoulder soreness this time. Cobb's visit with the team doctor Friday night should give him and the Giants a better idea of the next steps forward in his rehab schedule.

Jasson Dominguez NYY CF
Yankees' Jasson Dominguez: Throwing from 135 feet
1h agoYankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Dominguez (elbow) has increased his throwing distance to 135 feet, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Dominguez continues to progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery from last September, and Boone noted that the 21-year-old is "a few weeks" away from playing in a minor-league rehab game. Dominguez appeared in eight games with the Yankees last season, going 8-for-31 with four home runs and seven RBI over that span.

Kyle Nicolas PIT RP
Pirates' Kyle Nicolas: Recalled by Pittsburgh
2h agoThe Pirates recalled Nicolas from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Nicolas ended the 2023 season as part of the Pirates' bullpen. He struggled in his four outings, giving up seven runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out seven over 5.1 frames. Nicolas has looked better in Triple-A this season, posting a 0.84 ERA and 2.06 WHIP over 10.2 innings, and he'll get another shot in Pittsburgh's bullpen. The move corresponds with Ryder Ryan being optioned by the Pirates to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.
-
Thairo Estrada SF 2B
Giants' Thairo Estrada: Not starting Friday
2h agoEstrada (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Estrada went 0-for-2 in Wednesday's game against the Mets before being pulled due to left hamstring tightness. The Giants had their off day Thursday, but the 28-year-old will sit out for at least one more game while managing his injury. Tyler Fitzgerald will start at second base Friday and bat eighth against Pirates right-hander Quinn Priester.
-
Richard Palacios TB RF
Rays' Richie Palacios: Rare day off against righty
2h agoPalacios is not in Friday's lineup against the Mets.
Palacios rarely sits against righties, but he's on the bench to start this one against righty Chris Flexen. Randy Arozarena, Jose Siri and Amed Rosario will start in the Rays' outfield from left to right.
-
Jeremiah Estrada SD RP
Padres' Jeremiah Estrada: Back to big club
2h agoThe Padres recalled Estrada from Triple-A El Paso on Friday./
Estrada was sent down to Triple-A following the two-game Korea Series against the Dodgers. He's appeared in eight games with El Paso, registering a 2.08 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 20:3 K:BB and three saves over 8.2 frames, and the right-hander is set to bolster the Padres' bullpen. Estrada's move to the majors corresponds with right-hander Randy Vasquez being optioned to Triple-A El Paso

Anthony Davis LAL C
Lakers' Anthony Davis: Iffy for Game 4
4m agoDavis is questionable for Saturday's Game 4 versus Denver due to a left wrist sprain, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Davis has been a regular on the injury report, but this is a new issue. Previously, Davis was battling a back injury and some soreness in both heels. He seemed fine in Game 3, however, as he produced 33 points (14-23 FG, 5-7 FT), 15 rebounds, three assists and one steal in 43 minutes.
-
Daniel Gafford DAL C
Mavericks' Daniel Gafford: Good to go Friday
1h agoGafford (back) is available for Friday's Game 3 against the Clippers.
Gafford has been upgraded from questionable to available Friday despite dealing with back spasms. Gafford should start at center for the third straight game to start the series.
-
Kawhi Leonard LAC SF
Clippers' Kawhi Leonard: Good to go for Game 3
2h agoLeonard (knee) is available for Friday's Game 3 against the Mavericks, Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.com reports.
After missing Sunday's Game 1 win due to knee inflammation, Leonard returned for Game 2 on Tuesday and put up 15 points, seven rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block in 35 minutes during a 96-93 loss, marking his first appearance since March 31. With the series tied at 1-1, Leonard's health and impact will be key to the Clippers' success. Despite suiting up for back-to-back games, the questionable tag may stick with Leonard for the rest of the postseason.
-
Damian Lillard MIL PG
Bucks' Damian Lillard: Returns to Game 3
2h agoLillard (knee) has returned to Friday's Game 3 against the Pacers, Tony East of SI.com reports.
Lillard went straight to the locker room after suffering an apparent left knee injury with 2:13 remaining in the first quarter, but he was back on the court to start the second period. Khris Middleton is playing through an ankle sprain he suffered in Game 2 and Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) has yet to play this postseason, so Lillard's return is a major relief. The All-Star has scored 69 points through the first two games of the series but struggled in the second half on both matchups, which allowed Indiana to even the series with a Game 2 win Tuesday.

Damian Lillard MIL PG
Bucks' Damian Lillard: Heads to locker room
2h agoLillard left Friday's Game 3 with 2:13 remaining in the first quarter due to an apparent left knee injury and went to the locker room, Tony East of SI.com reports.
Lillard drove to the basket for a layup and gently collided with Pascal Siakam but landed awkwardly and had to be helped to the bench. Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) has yet to play this postseason, and Khris Middleton is playing through an ankle injury he suffered early in Game 2, so Lillard's potential absence couldn't come at a worse time. AJ Green subbed in for Lillard, but Pat Connaughton and Malik Beasley are also candidates for increased roles until the All-Star point guard can return.
-
Terry Rozier MIA SG
Heat's Terry Rozier: Remains out for Game 3
3h agoRozier (neck) won't play in Saturday's Game 3 against the Celtics.
Rozier's absence streak will extend to nine games Saturday due to neck spasms. With Delon Wright (personal) questionable, Patty Mills could receive his first minutes of the series against Boston. Rozier's next chance to suit up is Game 4 on Monday.
-
Trevor van Riemsdyk WAS D
Capitals' Trevor van Riemsdyk: Exits Friday's contest
3m agoVan Riemsdyk (upper body) will not return to Friday's game against the Rangers.
Van Riemsdyk took a huge hit against the boards that resulted in an interference penalty by Matt Rempe. Van Riemsdyk immediately left the ice and returned to the locker room. He logged 3:27 of ice time prior to getting injured. An update on his status should be available before Game 4 on Sunday.
-
Nick Jensen WAS D
Capitals' Nick Jensen: Unavailable Friday
2h agoJensen (upper body) will not suit up against the Rangers on Friday, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports.
Jensen has now missed five straight games. The veteran blueliner tallied 14 points in 78 games during the regular season. He could return for Game 4 on Sunday.
-
Rasmus Sandin WAS D
Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Out Friday
2h agoSandin (upper body) will not play Friday against the Rangers, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports.
Sandin will miss his eighth consecutive game Friday. The 24-year-old was considered a game-time call Friday, so he should have a good chance at returning Sunday for Game 4 versus New York.
-
Ryan Suzuki CAR C
Hurricanes' Ryan Suzuki: Up from AHL
4h agoSuzuki was recalled from AHL Springfield on Friday.
Suzuki has 14 goals and 30 points in 51 outings with Springfield in 2023-24. Although he'll join the Hurricanes for the time being, the 22-year-old is not expected to play for Carolina during the postseason.
-
Nicolas Hague LV D
Golden Knights' Nicolas Hague: Unavailable for Saturday
5h agoHague (lower body) will miss Game 3 against Dallas on Saturday, Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Hague had two goals, 12 points, 43 PIM, 154 hits and 111 blocks in 73 regular-season appearances in 2023-24. He also missed Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Stars due to the injury. Alec Martinez is likely to remain in the lineup for Game 3 due to Hague's continued absence.
-
Cam Talbot LA G
Kings' Cam Talbot: Set to start Friday
6h agoTalbot is expected to start at home against Edmonton in Game 3 on Friday, per Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period.
Talbot has struggled against the Oilers, allowing 10 goals on 75 shots (.867 save percentage) over two playoff contests. Edmonton ranked fourth offensively with 3.56 goals per game in the regular season, so the Oilers are likely to continue to give the veteran goaltender trouble, especially because Talbot's been floundering for a while now. He has a 2.92 GAA and an .897 save percentage over his past 17 outings dating back to March 7.
